Difficulty booking Hilton Head for Spring Break?

We have decided to step out into the non-park world of DVC for next year and try and book a week during Spring Break at Hilton Head. We would likely try for a one bedroom. Does anyone have any insight about the popularity of HH during Spring Break? For what its worth, we would likely stay March 31-April 8th. Thank you very much in advance for any input. :goodvibes

The vast majority of units there are dedicated 2BRs. There are only 21 possible 1BR units available (broken off of the 2BR lock-offs) and they tend to go quickly. Spring Break is usually a pretty busy time there so it may be difficult to get at the 7 month mark, but not impossible. Although I never tried booking a 1BR during Spring Break, I had such a hard time trying to book 1BR units during the summer months that we eventually did an add-on there to get the 11-month booking window. I would call right at the 7-month mark and keep your fingers crossed. Good luck!

Could be difficult, that is the week from Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday which is popular on HHI. As pp mentioned not many 1br villas; if you can manage to do 2br or a split on points & cash nights it increases your possibilities.

Good luck & call at moment MS opens pixiedust: HHI resort is awesome :goodvibes

I waitlisted at the 7 month window for a 2 bedroom for DS's family and it never came through. Spring break for them this year was the week before Easter.

It is suprisingly difficult considering the weather is so hit or miss that time of year. I would personally stay away until at least mid May, just my opinion.

I just got a 2 bedroom lock-off for the 6th and 7th (Easter weekend), so they weren't all snapped up at the 11-month mark. Good luck!

I think you were lucky for 2 reasons: 1-because it is a weekend and you use many more dvc points to stay and 2-there are many more 2bedrooms than 1 bedrooms. It is a tough get for spring break. We added on twice to get 11 months for summer and have really only been in april once. I think it might be a difficult get..but you can waitlist....I'm headed there for July 4th week this year(we have gone every summer since 2005 and make reservations at 11 months always for this time of year). We have never had a problem getting reservation less than 7 months over xmas/NYs.

Our Spring Break is always the first full week of April. I was able to get a 1BR at HHI for 2011 at the 7 month window for Su-Th nights. I was quite surprised! I think we were lucky because this year, our Spring Break did not fall over Easter. I wanted to make sure that we can get a 1BR in the future so we did an add-on at HHI in January. Now, we can go every three years in a 1BR for spring break.

We had great weather this year. It was pretty windy, which they said is normal at that time of year, but the temps were in the upper 70's to low 80's. The ocean was a little cool, but the kids were so enthralled with the critters on the beach that they didn't even want to swim in the ocean....

We're going to WDW next year but we are really looking forward to our return to HHI in 2013:love:.

The 2 bedroom lock-off is composed of a 1 bedroom and a studio, so each would have been available independently. I do indeed feel lucky, however, and am also thankful for my 11 month window!! :goodvibes

Thanks so much for the replies everyone. It sounds like we'll either get lucky and get one, or not - LOL. If we don't get one, we'll just go to Disney for Spring Break (twist my arm...).

DVC's reservation system doesn't allow lockoffs to be booked as either a 2B OR 1B+Studio in a first come, first served manner. They decide in advance how many will be set aside as 2Bs and how many as 1B + Studio.

Very interesting - thanks for pointing that out! The CM did said I could cancel the studio if needed to - is that correct?

We tried to books a few different times at HHI and we had no luck at all - so we added on as well.

We are counting the days until we can book for next year over July 4th!
We are going to try to get a Grand Villa - so I really hope we are successful!

Labor day weekend this year is already booked up as well - so we're going to Disneyland instead! :woohoo:
