Ok...most feel stongly of getting the same UY when you add on :thumbsup2...Actually, I'm in the process of doing just that, but I was thinking:surfweb:.

You can only transfer to another member (unless its you with a different UY!) once per UY. So even if you have 3 different "homes", VWL,BLT, BWV, you can only do 1 transfer. If you had different UY, you could do one under each membership.

Wouldn't that be a major advantage of having different UYs and outweigh the convience of one account?:confused3

Not at all. Transfers to other members occur less frequently (unless you have a goal of being a commercial renter) than trying to make your own reservations and you just don't have enough points in one contract to get that one extra night. You can't take points from two different contracts and combine them for one night without transferring the points to the one or the other contract.

Plus you have to worry about different banking deadlines for different UYs.

Definitely an advantage for transferring out to multiple people, but like pp said, you could never combine all your points. If you never needed all your points (or all of your banked and borrowed points) for a single stay, then it could be an advantage. But watch those banking windows.

We just added on at a different resort (HHI) with a different UY (June)--our original is BLT with a Feb UY--not because we were thinking of this "perk" but because we were looking at when we would need to start traveling now that our DS is in school. And we would like the 11 month window for HHI. I was surprised how hard it can be to get in there at the 7 month mark.

We did not know to consider our options with our original contract. Amazing what the DIS can teach you! We also had the points put in two contracts instead of one since we now have two kiddos.

There are pros and cons, but if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't split up UYs. The bigger issue for us is combining points as others have mentioned. It's not impossible, but it is a pain and requires more "thinking" than it should! It's also more difficult for MS.

Perfect example, we stayed at OKW a couple of summers ago. Rather than just booking the reservation and calling it a day, I booked a few nights with my Aug UY points, booked a few nights with my Dec UY points, and then for the last night, I transferred points from my Aug UY into my Dec UY and combined them with some points that were going to expire to book the last night. If I had one UY (regardless of how many contracts I had under that UY), the only things I would have to worry about is making sure MS used banked points first and then used points from whatever contract I specified. Since this incident, I tend to transfer my Aug UY points into my Dec UY contract just so I don't have to worry about all of the scenarios with MS.

With that said, if I was purchasing resale and got the deal of the century, it wouldn't stop me from buying two different UYs, but if all was equal (or even close), I would purchase the same UY. JMHO! :goodvibes Good luck! :thumbsup2

Our current points are a Dec UY, but we have a pending resale purchase for some add-on points which are Aug UY, but at the same resort. I would have liked to find Dec UY points to purchase, but the only ones available were more points than we needed, and we wanted to get the points before 3/20/11. Now that we are pending purchase, my head has been spinning about how to use the points.

Our goal is to use our existing points in combination with the new points annually. I have come to the same conclusion as Buckeye Fan. I will probably transfer the Aug UY points every year in Aug and then bank them in April for use in the following UY. We plan to travel in the early summer, so this should work well for us to combine all of the points. It may be a little hard to track, since I have read that the transferred points do no show up in the on-line account. I may need to set up some sort of spread sheet.

If I had the option to purchase points in the same UY, I would have jumped at the opportunity. For our purposes, I would not try to combine different resorts because we like to have the 11 month scheduling window. It would get too confusing for me to have different resorts with different use years.

If you buy an add on with dfifferent Use Year through resale, you will have two different Member Id Numbers. Which means two different log on's to member website. If you buy direct, Disney will always match up same Use year and same Member ID number. Also no closing cost!

No need to log in twice. I have two different contract numbers and I can see both when I log in.

Hello,

We are buying points at a different home resort with a different use year. Is there anything specific I need to put on the closing documents to make sure that we will be able to log into the dvcmember website with our existing username and password? It seems I have enough disney usernames on various disney sites...shopping, parks, etc.

It sounds like we will have separate membership numbers and separate membership cards. Do the closing docs for the new contract need to have our existing membership number, or it doesn't matter since it is separate?

Thanks for any tips. I don't want to have to redo closing docs or titles, etc., once it is all done!

Just wondering if anyone has any tips on the closing docs when you have different resorts and different UYs? Thanks for any help!

When we bought our first different UY contract I did not do anything at all to indicate we were already members. The only thing that would matter is having one log-in to see both memberships and Disney caught that when they loaded it into the system. You could ask the resale agent to note in the paperwork that you are already an existing member and include the membership number. There should be no need for a password or any other information to be given.

Thank you for your reply! I will make sure that our current membership number is listed somewhere on the paperwork, and hopefully it will all work out so that I can log in and see both contracts. Crossing my fingers....

I asked MS about I when I was doin my add-on ad they said make sure you use the same email address on the closing docs as you currently use to log in and it worked. :)

I do like having two UY/mem #s for the reason mentioned above but the main reason I did it was that it was the right contract size at the resort I wanted at the right price. With a resort as small as mine is I may have to wait a long time to find another contract w all those features again, but at least I'll have 2 UY to choose from to "match" what I already have.
