I see people say that if you add-on resale make sure you get the same use year b/c you will have a 2 memberships. How do you find out a use year and why does it matter if they all end on the same day/year?

Jeremys111,

If you are a current DVC member your use year is indicated on your member card. We bought our first two sets of BWV points through resale both with a December use year. We just added on some more at SSR directly through Disney also with the December use year. We choose to do this because it was easier to have one member card and keep track of banking/borrowing window. As an uber-planner I didn't want to lose out on any of my points!

Nope. We bought both of our contracts by Resale through the DIS sponsor the Timeshare Store :). We have two resorts, two member numbers and two use years. It's not that hard to keep things straight.

It is really just the month you get your points "deposited" in your account each year. For example, if you have 150 points with an April use year on April 1 every year you get those 150 points. Of course you can always bank from one year to the next or borrow from the following year to meet your vacation needs. Maybe I am just a little neurotic about the use year though . . . I find it much more convenient for the contracts to have the same use year and it just took a little patience when doing this via resale.

Use Year is the date each year when your points are renewed. It also determines your banking deadlines.

If you have a June Use Year, you will get a fresh allotment of points on June 1 each year. They must be used by May 31 of the next year or they will expire. You could also bank them for use in the following Use Year and the deadlines would allow you to bank all of your points by November 30 - up to 50% of your points by February 28 - and up to 25% by March 31. No points may be banked during the last 2 months of the Use Year.

Currently I have a February, June, October and hopefully a December use year. Believe me it is a lot easier having the same use year but when you find a deal on the re-sale boards somethings you just have to jump at the chance to get a great contract. I usually do not have to worry about the banking deadlines since we are usually borrowing points.

Have the point info online as made things much simpler for an air head like me :rolleyes1 . I have 2 member numbers. One number has 7 contracts with 2 resorts with a Dec UY. The other number has a small March contract. Until the points info came online I was always confused as to what contract had how many points. MS would lump them together and say you have xxx points available. But some would be at BWV and others at OKW. Now I can easily see what points are available for booking at 11months depending on the resort.
