Different ideas, instead of the standard autograph book?

Anyone do anything different? Or find anything different to use instead of the usual autograph book bought at WDW???

My dd's used a light colored WDW hat. My oldest got a light tan baseball hat with a small mickey on the front and my youngest got a light pink bucket hat with a small tink. The characters had fun signing them and my dd's still wear the hats as opposed to the books that stay on the bookshelf. It was very nice only having to carry the sharpie with no fumbling for the book and pen etc. Plus my dd's are fair skinned and I didn't have to nag them to keep the hat on!

We are in the same situation, trying to figure out something new to do with the autographs.

The best thing we did one year was to buy one of the nicer princesses posters and have all of them find it. We were able to do it (Pocahontas was the hardest to find) and we then had it framed.

We are trying to figure something out for this year, but aren't sure what to do.

Most nice bookstores have blank books. You could start with one of the basic ones and personalize it.

A long time ago, we were able to find a Disney address book and a Disney themed diary that we used. Surprisingly the address book was nice because we "filed" the autographs under their initial.

Last year, we went with the WDW autograph book that had room for pictures. This year, we're going with 3x5 cards, so DD6 and DW can scrapbook a really amazing presentation, complete with the pictures and the autographs.

I ordered the Happiest Celebration autograph books before I found out that they don't have nearly as many pages (but they have a place for pictures and I'm glad I ordered them anyway).

But, in case we fill it up on our trip, between character dinners, MNSSHP, and the park character meetings, I am making some too.

I got a spiral bound 4x6 notecard notebook. The pages are cardstock. I'm using scrapbook paper, ribbon, stickers, and embellishments to cover the front & back (I'm making the back the front, and the front the back - so that the "front" of the pages are the non-lined sides). I'm going to tie matching ribbon all over the wire spiral (to camoflauge them a bit) and will use a big binder clip to keep the book ready to open to the next available page (make it easier for the characters, and to make sure that they don't sign on the "lined" side of the page).

I'm making mine this weekend, and will post pictures when they are finished.

thats a great idea! I'm going to get some colored 3x5 cards and have the characters sign those and post them into the big scrapbook I plan on making! Thanks for the idea Amy!

My boss used a regular autograph book, but had the character sign on the right hand page and then put the corresponding picture on the left hand page, so the picture was with the signature.

That seemed like a good idea to me.

A few suggestions:

Canvas Apron
Canvas Tote Bag/back pack
Pillowcase
T-shirt

Our last trip I bought blank canvas aprons and a Disney Iron on Patch in my children's favorite characters. We took the aprons to Chef Mickey's to have the characters sign so they have their own "Chef Mickey" apron. We may bring it back this time to let other Characters sign.

I also have carried a Canvas Tote Bag that I ironed on my favorite Disney Clip Art (see the Creative DISigns board for instructions) and have had the characters sign that for me. It is my personal "autograph book".

This time we haven't decided if we are going to take pillow cases (I just bought the CUTEST ones at Ben Franklin--Color It Yourself with the Princesses--they also had Cars) for all the characters to sign, or we also found really cute t-shirts with all the characters in front of the castle. I was going to have them signed, then stuff them and sew them up to make a bed pillow.

You could also just make sure all the characters sign the front of the shirt and then frame it and hang it up, like a sports jersey.

Since we are doing lots of Character meals, and the Characters often come around more than once we may bring all 3 so they have something to sign each time! :rotfl2:

Just make sure you bring high quality fabric markers. I put the items and markers in a plastic Ziplock bag to keep it from getting anything spilled on it and to find it easily in the backpack. If you are going to have them signed outside of a character meal then you should bring a piece of heavy cardboard or a clipboard to put it on. At the meal they can sign on the table, except Goofy and Pluto have some problems with their noses. Pluto had to put the apron over his nose to see it!

I got an inexpensive 6x6 scrapbook, and cut a pile of 6x6 paper. Then i decorated a sheeet for each charachter with a sticker, and a simple border..continuing the border on to a facing page of the same color. I will have the pages with the char. sticker on them with us on a clip board for them to sign, then pop them in the book with a picture on teh facing page, and DD will have a mini scrapbook all her own to remember. Bonus is that it is expandable so I can add lots of pages, including just photo pages for char. that cannot sign , like mater, lightning, sully..bullseye...

Only problem is finding stickers for some of the less common char...so i printed out some clip art on photo paper, and made my own with my mini xyron :) I think this is the same or similar idea posted in the creative thread...I will scan and show some of mine when we get back and they are filled :)

Ok I am not suggesting everyone has their kid do what mine just did...but since you asked.....We are having DD7's cast signed by the princesses...She broke her arm this past Tuesday and of course we leave 2 weeks from Monday... She picked a light blue cast since it is the color of Cindys dress. My husband told her absolutely no one except the princesses can sign it. Luckily though she gets it off the day after we come home so its only for a few weeks.. My problem is what to do with the dirty stinky nasty signed cast once its off?? :crazy2: !! LOL ..Actually I may take pictures of the princesses signing it then she can keep the picture instead.

Not advising anyone to have their kid go out and break a bone to have a cool new thing to be autographed, but hey when life gives you lemons, make lemonade!!! LOL

If you have a car I go to the walmart in Kississimme and they have spiral autograph books that have different characters on the covers. I've got a tinkerbell one and one of the gang.

I'm getting t-shirts at the disney store that have all (most all anyway) of the characters on them. I am putting a small piece of cardboard in them sot the characters can sign the back. When we get home I am going to make pillows for the girls beds! I have 2 trips worth of sigs to use for scrapbooking (if I ever get around to it) so I wanted something they could keep out this time.

I did the same thing, except I got a soft covered 3x5 album. I got the colored cards and put stickers on them of each character. The album lays flat so it will be easy to carry. I plan on taking more index cards into the parks to get the signatues of the rarer characters and then I will try to find the stickers. There is a website(searched on yahoo) that has alot of Disney Stickers (Peter pan, the villians, Alice and Wonderland) but the prices are about 4.99 per sheet. I then plan to put them into a 12x12 scrapbook with a picture of the kids with each character.

I recently found one website that the family did a wonderful job with this. they made a background sheet of the character they got the autograph from, Had a picture of there son with the character and the autograph and the title of the character in fancy script. It was Really nice!! And they got so many different characters!!

I was at a NASCAR race in June. A woman was having the drivers sign 3 X 5 pieces of crosstitch fabric. She was planning on crosstiching over the signitures and making a throw or quilt.

This idea would work with character signitures, you could make a throw, quilt, wall hanging; whatever you wanted.

i have seen a lot of disney shirts and then the kid gives them a sharpie to sign them, same with hats and my favorite one was a family who bought plain colored book bags for school and then had the characters sign them

Sorry, I haven't read through all of the posts. I take a matt for a photo frame. The big ones that are meant for signing and leaving messages. We take or buy some markers in lots of colors and let them sign away! Works great for a character meal, like Chef Mickey's where you get a picture.
Here's an example I found at target.com
http://www.target.com/gp/detail.htm...850439-4271866?_encoding=UTF8&asin=B000FG0EQY
But, I found some at the Dollar Tree in the spring. :thumbsup2

I LOVE the poster idea. I'm going to do this for my DD when we go in Nov.
Our first trip we didn't do anything real original but it turned out nice. I took 4X6 index cards and had each character sign on one, then took a picture of our DD with that character and put the pictures and cards in a 4X6 photo album so that she has the signature and picture with each character we met. :)
