I don't want "the usual". I will be doing Christmas Eve for the very first time. I am making BBQ Corned Beef Brisket (like pulled pork) sandwiches, japanese chicken salad and ????

Help. No cheese and crackers, no veggie tray. I like to make things, but I don't want stuff with CRAZY ingredients. Just stuff you don't see all the time.

i've made crab bruschetta - it's like regular bruschetta - but with crab meat added - in the winter i brown bag the tomatos to give them a riper texture - it's a little like summer in the winter

This is about as simply as you can get.

Mini Fillo Dough Shells
Put some brown sugar on the bottom, add a dollop of brie cheese and top with an almond, walnut or pecan. Bake at 350 until cheese melts. Very good and very easy to make.

This is a good hot dip/spread too:

Roasted Pepper Artichoke Spread

1 cup freshly grated Parmesan Cheese
1/2 cup light mayo
8 oz. cream cheese softened
1 - 14 oz. can artichoke hearts drained and very coarsely chopped(not the marinated, just in brine)
1/3 cup roasted red peppers, chopped
Dash of garlic powder

Cream may and cream cheese, Blend in grated parmesan. Add artichoke hears and peppers and mix. Place in a 9" quiche or pie
pan. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes until bubbly and slightly. Serve with Water Crackers.

You can make this ahead and keep several days in the frig and pop in the oven when ready to eat.

Here's an easy one that is sweet but looks neat for the holidays:

1 carton cool whip or whipped cream

crushed candy canes or peppermint candies

Pirouline cookies for dipping (if you don't recognize this name, there is a picture of them here:

Add the crushed candy to the whipped cream just before serving (if you do this too far in advance, the candy will melt into your whipped cream and make it pink)

for the japanese chicken salad..never heard of it!..and for the crab bruschetta..have never had bruschetta..but living in MD I have lots of crab meat in the freezer just crying for a new recipe..thanks in advance!

Salmon tarts are easy. You use the little pastry tart shells in the freezer section, flake some smoked salmon into them, top with a dollop of sour cream and a dash of cayenne pepper.

This is one of our favorites.

Bacon Wraps

Club crackers
8 oz cream cheese
1 lb bacon

Place one thin slice of cream cheese between two Club crackers. Slice it on the end of the cream cheese and not length wise. It should fit perfect on the crackers and not hang off. Wrap a half slice of bacon loosely around crackers. Bake on 350 for 20-25 minutes or until bacon is done.
