Different crowd patterns

We just got back from our Veterans Day weekend trip. We arrived Thurs afternoon and Sat was our last day.

Overall it was very crowded. But it was interesting to notice that where the crowds were was different than when we went this summer.

In summer we found even DCA to be packed. The walkway past GRR was always full of people and you had to shuffle through. This trip, plenty of room and very uncrowded.

DL filled up fast in the morings this trip whereas during the summer it took a little time and the morning "quiet" lasted longer. Since this was the start of the Christmas season there, I think more people were going to see HMH, IASWH, the Christmas parade, the Big Thunder Ranch petting area, and the Christmas fireworks. Moving around in DL was difficult. We even had FPs that went unused partly because we didn't feel like going back and fighting the crowds to get to the ride.

Electronica in DCA was crowded on Friday night, but much less so on Sat night.

When we left DLR on Friday night to go back to CCI, we saw signs that said DL was full but DCA was available. Don't know if that meant they weren't letting anyone into DL or just new arrivals. That sign wasn't up on Sat night though.

NOS was incredibly packed by early afteroon and adventureland seemed less crowded than it was during the summer. We almost walked on to Jungle Cruise Sat afteroon.

TSMM line was still about the same. We found it to be about a 50 min wait both Fri and Sat afternoon or evening. A little after 10am, the line went all the way around to the start of the Pier! This is a ride we always save for afternoon.

Anyway, I just found it interesting how the crowd patterns change depending on when you go. Both were crowded times, but they were spread out differently.

Very interesting. I'm guessing if the park hit capacity we'll hear more about it over the next few days.

We were also there Wed. thru Sat.

Wed was AWESOME! We literally walked on everything. We got to the park at opening (10am) and by 6pm we had literally done everything we wanted to do at DL...some rides we rode multiple times. The longest wait was about 25 minutes. But most of the day we were able to just walk on!

Then Thurs. and Fri were MADNESS! We also had FP that we didn't use simply because navigating to the area to use them was a nightmare! It was at least as busy as a weekend in the summer. An hour after park opening, the line for Space Mountain was listed at 80 minutes!!

Friday was particularly crowded! We left DL about 2 pm to rest before coming back for fireworks and parade and were advised at the turnstile that the park was close to capactity and we might have trouble getting back in. We came back at 4pm without any problem though. I did hear that they did reach capactiy later that evening. The line for POTC in the afternoon reached halfway to HM and was three lanes deep! (back, up and back again.)

We went to the park for half a day on Saturday and it didn't seem to be as crowded as the previous two days. On Sat. we could actually maneuver a stoller through New Orleans square. We had a VERY hard time doing that on Fri and Sat.

The only time I really got irritated was Friday morning in the line for Small World. We got into the line about an hour after the park openend. The wait time was posted as 20 minutes, but it sure looked like a MUCH longer wait. The line went out straignt to Alice in Fantasy Land! I asked if it was *really* 20 minutes and the CM said yes....it goes fast. 40 minutes later we made it to a sign post that said the wait from there was 20 minutes!! I again asked if the time posted was correct and was told yes. ANOTHER 40 minutes later I flagged down a cast member after DH ran back to the sign at it STILL said a 20 minute wait! The CM apologized and said that they were "hoping" to get the wait to 20 minutes, but they hadn't planned on the crowd and only had enough CM's to run one side of the boats. UM. HELLO! 1) don't say its 20 minutes when its an OVER 80 minute wait because you "eventually" hope the wait is 20 minutes! and 2) They should have known better than to understaff Small World on the opening day of the Christmas season!!!!

Overall, it was extrememly crowded but we had a great time!

I totally agree! It was very different!

I'm not sure if that is because it was just more crowded in general or if it has to do with the season or time of year.

Like all good Diser's, I am an early morning FP collector. On Friday morning, I stumbled a bit in my schedule and did not collect my first FP until 8:40 (park opened at 8:00). My return time was already 12:35 :scared1:. I have NEVER had to wait more than 2 hours to use a FP and up to 2 hours to get another during my first hour of being in the park. That's when I knew the day was going to be crazy!

The morning was extremely busy!

I too had heard that DL reached capacity on Friday. I have NEVER seen it so crowded, and I've been there in July and August and during the week of Thanksgiving. I thought I knew how to work the FP system no matter how busy the park is. Nope. Well, I do, but it just wasn't fun being there.

I described it as "lose your kids if you're not holding on to them, crowded." We made the mistake of coming back into the park just as the 5:30 parade ended on Main Street. Ugh! It was horrific getting to SM to use our FP's.

Now I know why people will never go during the Christmas vacation time period. Too crowded! (You know it's crowded when getting and using an Autopia FP is actually a helpful thing!)

We were there Wed pm, Veteran's Day, and Friday. Luckily we did almost everything we wanted to do before noon on Friday, and we did enjoy our visit.

Friday was insane. (75,000 in the parks if that makes sense) IASW opened one day early and we had 15 minure waits. we also waited an hour the next day...

Very very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a wonderful ride during the holidays..

We were also there Wed. thru Sat.

The line for POTC in the afternoon reached halfway to HM and was three lanes deep! (back, up and back again.)

We went on POTC when the line was that long Friday afternoon. My family didn't want to and I told them, the wait won't be longer than 30 min. POTC is such a fast loader that we waited about 22 min. I told them even though the line was long, that was still the fastest line in the park. The tricky part is finding the end in the middle of the crowd going through NOS.

We also went on IASW Friday morning about 9. The line went up those steps off to the side and stuck out into the middle of the walkway. We saw 20 min wait, but we couldn't imagine it being only 20 min. It was a little longer than that. When we got off, we saw the line all the way to Alice like you said and we were glad we got on that early.

I can't figure out how POTC can be such a fast loader and IASW with similar boats somehow takes a lot longer. :confused3

When we were there IASW was only loading on one side. With the line 40 minutes long...

Because they can't get the boats on IASW to stop dragging bottom or hanging up in the first turn. I was there last year, in late Aug, just after they had been working on IASW for months digging it out and fixing the rails. Same story waited for freaking forever before the CM's confussed that a boat was stuck in the 1st turn!!!:rotfl::confused3:lmao:

I went on IASWH Saturday morning after doing Toontown Morning Madness and I was on and off the ride in 20 minutes and then we went on it again right after and it was probably another 20 minutes or so (ride and wait). I was surprised at how fast it was moving we took the right side of the line both times and it was faster than the left side each time.

Friday was our DCA day and it was really packed in A bug's land area during midday. There is not enough room in that area with all the construction going on. When there was an Aladdin performance it got so busy and there were so many people.

Thursday was probably the best day. It was pretty quiet Thursday night there was hardly anybody there at 10pm.

Friday night the main hub was busy since everybody was there for the fireworks. We watched the fireworks then did IJ and then got a pretty good spot in the middle front of ROA for the 10:15 Fantasmic.

Saturday morning seemed pretty light but we left kinda early to check out of PPH and into HOJOs. Saturday night was busy, long lines for BTRR and the fantasyland rides. Space Mtn was down and then it opened right as we were finishing dinner at the Pizza Port so the line wasn't that bad.
