I can't figure out what the difference is between:

Island Tour and Snorkeling with Stingrays and

Stingray City Snorkeling and Discover Cayman Tour

Unless I missed something they both offer snorkeling with the stingrays, a visit to Hell and a trip to the Turtle farm. What am I missing?

I asked the same question a few weeks ago and what I found was they are basically the same just run by two different local tour companies. With that in mind I made my decision based on departure times. I went with the Stingray Snorkeling and Discover Cayman Tour that left at 7:50 am (they had two times the other being 9 am I think). The other tour leaves at 10:45 am.

I picked the early tour so that we would have time in town after to do shopping.

I heard from people who had been on both and they sounded like the experience was the same.

Hi Tiiiigergirl. Now that I got the above out of my system, it appears as though The Island Tour And Snorkeling allows for a brief stop at Seven Mile Beach.

We took the tour that was $5 more and did not stop at the beach. I was somewhat disappointed. I think we didn't stop because our tour was running way behind schedule. Hell is very over rated, I thought. The turtle farm was a fun stop and the free sample of rum cake next door was great.

We are hoping that second time is a charm since Hurricane Lili decided we should not sample the Western Itin last fall. Crossing our fingers for next January/February

You do not stop at Seven Mile Beach on the one called "Island Tour..." On our first Western cruise, the person who did the excursion talk said the difference was that you went out in smaller groups on the boats on that one, so some families like it better. We had already booked it based on time, and we broke up into several vanloads & went on the boats with the rest of the people from our van. The groups were small enough to give us lots of interaction with the stingrays, and the guide was able to assist with photos etc. It must be common to run really behind timewise because we got back to the ship very late. In two Western cruises, this has happened with almost all the excursions we've done.

I met another DISer yesterday from my area to look at pics, compare notes, etc (we'd discovered an awful lot in common) - anyway,

when they did the stingrays in Grand Cayman their guide said to remember if they came back to always go as early as possible because after 20 cruise ships full of tourists start feeding them they get a little lazy!

They are smart, too...as soon as a new boat comes in, they know to head over to it! They hung out around our boat till they knew they had eaten all the chow, and when a new one arrived, they took off.
