I've been a member for years but have no experience at all in renting or transferring points. I have 16 banked points that I may not be able to use. I've read over the rent/transfer board but it just isn't sinking in LOL!! How do you work this out especially with someone you don't even know? What is the difference in renting/transferring and why does it matter? I'm not sure if the info is just spread over too much space or if I'm just not too bright ... (probably the latter) but can someone give me a simple explanation of how this works?

Renting would be where you will make a reservation for someone else and rent that reservation to them- changing the name to theirs.

Transfer would be where you call MS and transfer your points into their account.

With a transfer, you will give up all rights to those points once the transaction is complete. The other member will have complete control over them to use as they please. With a reservation, you would control the reservation (and thus the points) until the day of check-in.

Only current points may be transferred to another member. If points have previously been banked, they cannot be transferred and renting a reservation would be your option. You could also consider using those points for a World Passport Collection reservation for up to 2 years in the future.

The problem is that 16 points doesn't go far, and will only get you 2 nights in a studio at OKW during value season. That makes securing a reservation for someone diffucult unless you want to add other points to it. Of course, if you intend to use points in the year they were banked into, you can always rent out or transfer that year's points, and use the banked points for your own ressie.
