Difference in onsight rental vs offsight rental?

Hi:

We are scheduled for a trip to WDW in October. We usually use Hertz and get a pretty good discount due to volume, but I read that because they were offsight there was additional charges. What are those for? Are the onsight rentals more because they are onsight? The onsight definitely sounds more convenient. What companies have you had good experiences with?

We've used Budget, Alamo, National & Dollar. All of these are onsite. All were similar cars, decent but not spectacular but hey, it's only for a week.
The only issue we ever had was at Dollar, the line was like 1 hr long then just to get paperwork to take out to another line in the garage to get a key. I didn't join their frequent renter program but should have to bypass the long line. This was in Nov 07 and since then Alamo has had the best rates. This year prices are ridiculously high. I've never paid more than $150 and they're over $500 right now.
At this point I'd choose whichever company offered the best price, on or off site.

If you see a good price...book it! There is an extra fee when you rent onsite because of being located at the airport. Anything offsite is usually only a couple of minutes away and the companies have shuttles to pick you up and bring you back.

Hertz is great at MCO. Their location is a short bus ride away. We found we were on our way in less than 10 mins. When it is time to return the car do curbside checkin with the luggage and then one person can take the bus back to the airport.
