Difference in a mod vs. value

Moderate rooms are 314 sq. ft. (except CBR rooms are 340).
Value rooms are 260 sq. ft.
[The 54 square feet difference (between 314 and 260) is about the size of two double beds.]

Moderate rooms have a ceiling fan.
Value rooms don't.

Moderate rooms have a fridge.
Value rooms don't (or you'll pay $10/day to rent).

Moderate rooms have 2 sinks (except CSR's have 1).
Value rooms have 1 sink.

Moderates have a pool slide and a hot tub.
Values have neither.

Moderates supply pool towels (at each resort's main pool only).
Values do not supply any pool towels.

Moderates' bus stops are covered (think protection from rain and hot sun).
Values' bus stops are not covered.

Moderates have lush landscaping.
Values have more "hardscaping."

Moderates have a food court AND a table-service restaurant (except POFQ ... food court only).
Values have only a food court.

Moderates have some sort of recreational activity (e.g., boat rentals, bike rentals).
Values don't have that type of recreational activity.

Moderates have a bar/lounge for adult beverages (CBR's is outdoor but covered, as befits the theme of the resort).
Values don't have a bar or lounge.

At Moderates, the maximum room charge limit is $1,000.
At Values, it's $500.

EXTRA CREDIT:

POFQ and POR have boat service to Downtown Disney.
CSR has full room service, and a gym.
Values are much more "kid-themed" and whimsical-looking than the Moderates.

Great comparison!

For all these reasons, the mods are worth the extra price for our budget :thumbsup2 We enjoy the relaxing theming of the moderates much more than the over the top theming of the values.

Another mod vote.

Dh and I stayed Mod and then, 8 years and 2 kids later, stayed value. We felt cramped with 4 of us in that tiny room.

Just don't go deluxe. Once we moved up, we were hooked, hooked I tell you!

Can I just ask about the $500 room charge limit at the values? Does this apply to someone who puts down their Chase Disney Visa Card with a very high credit limit. Not that I'd purposely try to max myself out, but I am in no way in any danger of going over my limit unless I threw a couple Disney cruises on the card as well.

they won't.

think it is $1,000 for moderates, and $1,500 for deluxes.

what they will do with your permission is once it gets to $500 send it on then. then start again. but I think they need your permission to do this. so give them a cell phone number to call.

It doesnt matter, its $500. When that is reached ask them to run it thru, it will open up another $500 for you.

I've only stayed at CSR and Pop Century.

When you open the door to the room in a value resort, it bumps into a bed. When you open it in a moderate, it swings open freely.

I think the moderate room is 2 or 3 feet wider and 10 feet or so longer. It does make a difference, but it isn't a huge difference.
The difference in size is negligable. There is about a foot more either way. It is not 2-3 feet wider or 10 feet longer. I've stayed at POP four times and at POR three times...the rooms are comparable in size. That foot or so in length does make a difference when opening the door. But, I will say that the bathroom at POP is larger than the bathroom at POR....I have to go into the bathroom, and turn around before shutting the door at POR. I can go in and close the door without turning around, at POP...if that makes any sense at all!

I hit the limit at POP once...they just had me talk to the POP front desk (I had hit the limit while at the Emporium on Main St!!) and POP started the new limit right then.

For me, there just isn't enough of a difference between the resorts. I love POR and would love to try the other moderates. But, after staying at POP, I find that POP meets my needs quite well. My dd, 14, no longer uses the smallish slides at the moderates so the lack of slide at POP is not an issue. We don't use table service restaurants at the resort so we are happy with just a food court. I have found that when we are at a moderate or a value, we tend to just sleep in the room and cool off in the pool. We just don't use the other stuff like boats, hot tubs, meandering walks..that sort of thing.
It's basically up to each family to decide what kind of vacation they like.

I will say this.....my other dd, 31, went to WDW for the first time in January. I took her. We spent the first three nights at POP...she fell in love with the place. I thought she might be lukewarm about it but felt it would give her a different experience from BWV, where we were staying for our last 4 nights. Well....when we got to BWV, she was underwhelmed!!! Told me it was pretty enough and she really liked that she didn't have to share a bedroom with me (seems I snore :rolleyes1 ). But, she told me she actually preferred POP. She loved Petals, the bar, she loved the liveliness of the resort, the colorfulness....everything about it. Go figure!

Room charge amounts are based solely on resort, not on your available credit or size of your bank account. In fact, they don't even check to see how much available credit you have. If you and I are staying at a Value resort, we will both be subject to the same $500 room charge limit even if I have a Bank of Generic debit card and you have a titanium American Express card.

Thanks! I wasn't trying to brag, only trying to make the point that I could go beyond the $500 without a problem from the Visa folks. I will try to remember to keep my spending under $500 then while staying at Pop next month. I'm not sure I want to get called up to the front desk to deal with financial transactions.

Oh and goofy4tink... I'm like your friend! I love Pop Century. It meets my needs, which is a clean, safe room with a decent shower and air conditioning! Beyond that, I don't need a whole lot. The food court has always met my expectations too. I'm in the room to sleep and shower and I love the happy vibe that resort gives me.

To OP, first, I'm from Bama, too!! :cheer2:
Second, with the age of your kids, I think that a value will suit your needs fine. The extra space and additional sink are nice, but I don't think you will notice the difference with your kids. Will you rent a crib, use a pac n play with your youngest? If so, there MAY be space issues, but doubtful. If you co sleep, you'll have no issues. I think your 4 yo will love a value. POP, though, overwhelmed my dd when she was 5.

When we take both of our kids who are 7 and 4, we will probably stay at a mod because the space will be nice. But, dh may want to save a buck or two and stay at a value, and I think that will be fine, too.

Good luck with your choice!!

I know you weren't bragging ... I was just illustrating a point.

If you aren't on the dining plan, or if you really like souvenirs, you might find it tough to keep it under $500. It's really no trouble at all. It's not like you're being called to the Principal's office or anything like that! It's just that in order to start up another room charge you have to give your verbal authorization to do so. I've never heard of the front desk calling a guest about this (not saying it's never happened, just that I've never heard of it). What's more common is that YOU need to contact the front desk (in person or by phone) to authorize another room charge account after you met the limit with the first one.
