Difference in a mod vs. value

I know then moderates are bigger, have refrigerators, one more sink, and have a slide.

My question is how much bigger are they? We are a family of 4 and I think we'll need the extra room. Does anyone have a layout of both rooms?

TIA!

I've only stayed at CSR and Pop Century.

When you open the door to the room in a value resort, it bumps into a bed. When you open it in a moderate, it swings open freely.

I think the moderate room is 2 or 3 feet wider and 10 feet or so longer. It does make a difference, but it isn't a huge difference.

We've stayed at moderates including CSR and also recently stayed at All Star Sports. Frankly, we couldn't see that much difference in size between the moderates and values. There are differences with respect to resort amenities. But, the room differences were pretty minimal we thought, other than the fridge.

I've stayed at ASMovies 5 times, and never had a room where the door bumped into the bed when I opened it.

Moderates are a little bigger, but if you really look at the layouts, there isn't a huge difference...not enough for the price increase, IMO.

The mods are a bit larger than values and probably better for you to fit the baby bed in there. I find that families with kids i3 to 10 yr olds love the values mainly because the resort is geared towards the kids fun due to the decor but your kids are still young and probably not able to enjoy the large scale decor at the values yet. In other words I would go mod as this trip is largely still for your enjoyment and in addition it should be a bit more quiet in a mod as the resort is a bit more spread out. Now the only mod that doesn't have a dual sink is the CSR but that mod has more amentities for adults to enjoy than PORS, POFQ and CBR. CSR is a beautiful resort that has a larger food court with many more food options, sitdown rest., largest pool/slide, largest hot tub, cute kids play area, salon, workout center and massage area. Now if you don't want to be at a resort that is spread out then I would suggest staying at POFQ as it is the smallest of all mods. No matter where your placed in FQ your close to the main building and bus area. There is only one pool area (no hot tub) but you can walk or bus over to PORS (sister resorts) and use any of their pool/play areas. Both FQ and RS have entertainment in their lounges and both share a pleasant relaxing boat ride to DTD. It doesn't really matter which resort you will choose as you'll have a wonderful vaca.

Things CSR offers over the other mods and values are a spa, salon, fitness center, and full menu room service. CSR also has a pool slide, a marina, and 4 lounges (one with live entertainment).

Check out my CSR website below for pics and info.

It depends on what you are used to. Values are nice because of the price and the fun theming. Moderates are nice because of the extra amenities. Space-wise, some posters say that the values were too small for them while others say that they were the right size. You are going to find the same responses with a question about the size difference between a deluxe and a mod. It all boils down to personal preference.

Something else to think about:

The pools at the Value resorts don't have slides.

There are usually multiple bus locations at Moderates, only one with the Values.

There is towel service at the Moderates, not so at the Value (not a big deal unless you're the one carrying six towels :) .

The queue at the Value resorts is out in the open, in the rain and the hot sun. The moderates bus stops are covered.

For me, it's the little things that make a difference.

I did not know this...thanks for the info...It will come in handy next time.

We are going to Disney for the first time this summer.
We picked a MOD because of the size and the food choices.

We did not do the DDP because our 13 year does not eat like an adult and it would of been money tossed.

WE liked how the CSR got great reviews for the Pepper Market and CS meals.

Plus you have a DH a DS 13 and DS 9...Space no matter how little is needed when they are all taller than you....Well the 9 year old had about and inch but...you get my point.

Moderate rooms are 314 sq. ft. (except CBR rooms are 340).
Value rooms are 260 sq. ft.
[The 54 square feet difference (between 314 and 260) is about the size of two double beds.]

Moderate rooms have a ceiling fan.
Value rooms don't.

Moderate rooms have a fridge.
Value rooms don't (or you'll pay $10/day to rent).

Moderate rooms have 2 sinks (except CSR's have 1).
Value rooms have 1 sink.

Moderates have a pool slide and a hot tub.
Values have neither.

Moderates supply pool towels (at each resort's main pool only).
Values do not supply any pool towels.

Moderates' bus stops are covered (think protection from rain and hot sun).
Values' bus stops are not covered.

Moderates have lush landscaping.
Values have more "hardscaping."

Moderates have a food court AND a table-service restaurant (except POFQ ... food court only).
Values have only a food court.

Moderates have some sort of recreational activity (e.g., boat rentals, bike rentals).
Values don't have that type of recreational activity.

Moderates have a bar/lounge for adult beverages (CBR's is outdoor but covered, as befits the theme of the resort).
Values don't have a bar or lounge.

At Moderates, the maximum room charge limit is $1,000.
At Values, it's $500.

EXTRA CREDIT:

POFQ and POR have boat service to Downtown Disney.
CSR has full room service, and a gym.
Values are much more "kid-themed" and whimsical-looking than the Moderates.

I won't say I'm any kind of expert on the issue having only stayed at one value and one moderate but I will tell you that the bus service and the covered queue areas are enough for me to never stay value again! One night we waited 1 1/2 hrs for a bus. Yes it was right after illuminations so it was busy but every deluxe and mod resort bus line was empty before the value lines even got moving :sad2: And having to wait for a bus to the parks in the rain or hot Florida sun was really not nice.

Thanks for the detailed and unbiased comparison of value vs mod. It all depends on what ammenities you want in a resort and how much you are willing to pay for said ammenities. For our family, moderate resorts are the best choice. I would love to stay in a deluxe resort but unfortunately, we don't have the wallet for a deluxe! :sad1:

Regarding the poolside bar:

The margaritas are very good at POP. They are also good at Port Orleans Riverside and Old Key West. Poly has a good margarita, too.

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever had a bad margarita anywhere on Disney property. Just one more reason to stay on-site.:lmao:

Seriously, though, we've stayed at POP, as well as the family suites at a Value Resort. In my opinion, you get a lot more perks for not a lot more money by staying at a moderate.

My personal opinion is that the mods are better when traveling with a family of 4. The room is a tad bigger, but that's not why I feel that way. I just think the mod resorts are a lot more relaxing because they are more spread out and the landscaping is more interesting. I also find the frig helpful. If you drive, they can put you in a room close to where you park the car. The quiet pools are a real plus since the value pools are crowded (except the piano pool at AsMu) The buses are more hectic at the values.

When I travel by myself or with my kids only, I think the values are just fine.

That's just me. Fortunately, I joined DVC and I will not need to make the choice again. I am looking forward to many vacations at the various DVC resorts. But I will always consider value or mods for the weekends or odd nights here and there.

hey don't forgot the free dinning. several of us stay at a value during free dinning. of course some cheat and stay at the DVC resort....

the bus lines at a value resort are more fair. there is a seating area under cover - but it is not in line and is not consider to be in line. (same as the other resorts)

the other places don't have lines - so a pushy teen or adult for that matter can get in front of you - when you have have been waiting for the bus.

Value has lines - so this will not happen.

that say Pop is just about as flat as any WDW resort can be. so this does attract the wheelchair group. definitely loved it when traveling with mother. no pushing her uphill or trying to control the wheelchair going down hill.

it was a blessing. So this can and does slow the buses down. Pop has more of them because it is just that much easier to get around Pop than the other WDW resorts.

so some people will complaint about the slow bus service.

We are staying at ASMU in December. I think this will be fine for Husband, me and DS (2). We will eventually do a disney trip when son is older, so we may do moderate then. Right now, Value is nice on the wallet!!:rotfl:
