My wife and I are new DVC Members!

We were wondering what the difference was between a Value Studio and a Standard Studio. We recently stayed in a Standard Value at AKV and since they did not have any value studios available for the night, we stayed at a standard.

Thank you all for your friendly advice to a newbie! :)

Value Studios are smaller and they are only at Jambo, they are 3 feet shorter from the door to the slider. Standard studios at Jambo aren't shorter, but mostly they face the pool, however there are a few facing a savannah but with poor viewing and so have been designated "standard."

Value studios could face the parking lot, the pool, or the sunset savannah.

Value studios are a great bargain but as Bobbi said you give up some floor space. You also do not get the handy storage bench. The Value room balconies are not as deep. Most of the Value rooms face the pool or the Sunset Savanna but there are two Value studios that face the parking lot. You cannot request a particular view. There are 18 possible Value studios and they go quickly because they are such a good deal.

The rooms along the Ostrich and Giraffe trails on this map are Value rooms.

They are a great bargain if you get the savanna view:thumbsup2. We bought at AKV so that we would have the 11-month window for the trips that we want to stretch our points and stay in the value rooms. We like the value 1BR's and there are only 10 of those.

In the value studios at AKV can you request an area or no? New to DVC and still learning. We have a few months until the booking window for our 2013 vacation comes open

No, there are no requests taken for value rooms in regards to the view. To the best of my knowledge, only 2 face the parking lot. The remainder are either savanna or pool view so your odds of a decent view are pretty good. I find it's worth the gamble considering the low point cost.

thanks for the response. I thought that would be the answer. SO value is still worth it to get an extra day or 2 in?

Studio size is aproximately 316 sq ft for value v. approximately 360 sq ft for standard, savanna, or concierge.

A couple years ago, I did a split stay between a standard studio and a value (don't ask me why-sometimes we solos just like to try different things). I didn't find any noticeable difference between them, and I've always reserved a value studio since. Right now I have a standard studio reserved, but I'm on the waitlist for a value studio-DVC's best kept secret-no-longer!

LisaS, can you explain what the handy storage bench is? We were recently in a standard studio at Jambo and don't recall a storage bench. Thanks.

And then when I was in the value studio, this is a picture of the spot where the bench would normally be in a larger studio-

Thanks Simba's Mom for posting your photos. It was your trip report a few years ago comparing a Value Studio and a Standard View Studio that first highlighted these differences and I was trying to find it when you posted the photos!

In some Jambo studios the connecting door is in the living area rather than the entryway. I've never stayed in studio with that layout but from the photos I've seen, the furniture is arranged differently and it's possible that the door takes up the space where the bench would normally be. Just speculating...

The bench is handy because it has a storage drawer in it. Given that the lower part of the dresser contains the pack'n'play, that bench adds back some of the space that is lost.

That is the studio we had. The connecting door was to the left of the armoire, so no bench.
