difference between priority seating and Ressies

What is the difference between Priority seating and having reservations (ressies)? I can't seem to tell the difference and since I am the leader of a group of five adults (including myself) for the first time to WDW. Can anyone give me some advice on this? I would really appreciate your help on this.

Well to my mind if I have a reservation at a restaurant not in WDW it means that if I have a table booked for 8.00pm then that table is reserved for us at 8.00pm and I don't have to wait for the table.

A PS for 8.00pm at WDW means that if I turn up at 7.50pm and check in for my table I may be told that actually the restuarant is running about 30 minutes late and it could be that I have to wait over 30 mins for my table but I won't have to wait as long as the party of the same size that just turned up to the podium before me but didn't have a PS.

LOL does that make any sense ?

Actually, I've known this for a while but first time guests may not...

Take for instance this past Saturday night at the California Grill. My GF and I were having dinner in the Wine Room when we see this woman start fighting with anyone within earshot who works there. Basically, she said she had "Reservations" at 7:15... She got there with her group at 6:45 and was still not seated and now it was 7:30...

Now, I can understand if this was a party of 4... But this was a party of 14!!!!!! You have GOT to understand that even with Reservations...it is not easy to snap your fingers and there you go...table for 14... Unfortunately, the CMs caved in and sat this group...5 adults, 9 kids...in the Wine Room, where kids were not supposed to be... It did not ruin my time but me and my GF felt awful for the Servers... We kidded with them often about the situation...and even got a "can't wait until 10 PM" from them...

Goes to show you have to understand the situation before making one yourself...
