I'm looking to fly to MKE next year, and I see flights on Midwest Airlines with Boeing 717's. Is this different than Midwest Express? If so, why the change? Thanks!

Looking at their website, it appears that Midwest Express has changed their name to Midwest Airlines.. I can't find any explanation as to why. I did find some articles on how they are very close to filing for bankruptcy protection though..

I'm from Milwaukee (where Midwest is based) so hopefully I can help a little bit. They did change their name - something about the connotations of Express.

They are flying two types of planes now, they used to only have 4 across seating, nice dinner, etc. .., now they also have a low-fare service (read more seats, not as many extras) ... here's a link to a story on it

They are hoping for a state grant (about $4 million) or county backing to help bail them out right now, here's another link about the bankruptcy protection stuff

I am from Milwaukee, too(actually Franklin)

I have my flight to Orlando booked on the lower fare plane for my trip this Oct. I hope they don't go bancrupt before then. I paid $163 for direct. I will miss those bigger seats, tho.
