Difference between Lock Off and Dedicated???

I'm going to be making a reservation for a 2 bedroom at Old Key West and someone had mentioned that there is a lock off 2 bedroom and a dedicated 2 bedroom.

Does anyone know the difference and should I choose one over the other?

the lock out is a 1-bedroom and studio.

a dedicated is that - no outside door on the studio (2nd bedroom) part, no balcony on the studio part, no kitchennett on the studio part. It does have a bigger closet.

with small children definitely the dedicated one. with adults going to together I would go for the lock out.

Also, in lieu of the kitchenette, the dedicated has an additional vanity sink.

One other thing about OKW...if anyone staying on the sleeper sofa needs access to the master bath, they will need to enter it through the master bedroom in bldgs 39 and below. Depending on the make-up of your party, this may or may not be a problem. (This is for one and two bedroom units, both dedicated and lock-offs)

Bldgs 30 and higher have a second entrance to the master bath through the laundry room.

My party consists of myself, my 15 year old nephew, my sister, and my sister-in-law. So my nephew and I will be sharing a bedroom and my sister and sister-in-law will be sharing a bedroom.

Based on that, do you think I should get the lock off instead of the dedicated?

I'm really confused as to which way to go.

Since there are only 4 of you, it most likely won't matter about the master bath access. As far as lock-off or dedicated, it depends. Are you and you nephew close as "pals" that you think you'll want to take off by yourselves to do "guy things" while the ladies go shopping, or do you think you'll all mostly travel around the parks, etc., as one group?

If you think you may want to break-off into those type of sub-groups, I'd go with a lock-off.

It really depends upon your personal family dynamics.

For the most part, we'll be traveling as one group. We'll be going for 9 days, 8 nights and I would say maybe once or twice out of the entire stay, my sister-in-law may want to hang back and relax in the room.

So in your opinion, based on the above, would you say a lock off would be best.

Just so I understand, a lock off is a studio and a 1 one bedroom connnected. So the studio would have its own balcony and kitchnette and bathroom and the 1 bedroom side would have its own balcony and full kitchen and bathroom, correct?

You are correct, a lock-off is a connected studio and one bedroom. Whether you have a lockoff or dedicated you will have two bathrooms, one in the second bedroom or studio, and one in the master suite or one bedroom. Both types of uits have a closable door between the living room area and the 2nd bedroom. The lock-off unit will have a small balcony for the 2nd bedroom, the dedicated will not.

If you or your nephew are "late night snackers" you may like the lock-off to have the kitchenette.

But given your overall touring style of staying together as a group, either type of unit should work out fine for you. Both types of units at OKW will have two real queen size beds in the 2nd bedroom, as all studios at OKW have 2 queen beds and no sleeper sofa.

Thanks Chuck and everyone else who responded. Your comments really helped.

We've done two-bedroom lockoffs twice, and here's the reason.

DH and I like to use the wake-up call service. With a lockoff, you can have one wakeup call for the main portion (the one-bedroom), and the folks in the studio can have a different wake-up call. The phone in the studio doesn't ring in the one-bedroom part, and vice versa.

Also, a lockoff gives the folks staying in the studio their own door, just in case they want to go in and out at odd hours.

Sounds perfect and I just called MS and changed my reservation from dedicated to lock off, even though its not guaranteed. Thanks.

Another good feature of a lock-off is the coffeemaker. DH and I are decaffeinated, so our family/friends were able to make high test every morning, and DH and I were able to make our unleaded at the same time.

I thought dedicated/lock-off was a guaranteed option, at least it was when we stayed at BCV (our last trip was BWV and there are no dedicated two-bedroom units there).

I don't know if it depends on the resort, but when I called both times this morning (I got 2 different people) they both said that lock off/dedicated would not be guaranteed. I'm hoping that since OKW is my home resort that I will get I want. Keeping my fingers crossed, because the more I think about it, lock off sounds perfect for my situation.

They usually make all 2 bedroom reservations as dedicated because it makes it easier to match up the one bedroom and studios. We got a lockoff last Jan because we were in a one bedroom for four days then a two bedroom for four days and we didn't want to move out if we could help it. The CMs at OKW were great and we were able to stay in the same one bedroom portion for both reservations. But we had to get this worked out on the reservation with MS and when we arrived at OKW.
