Difference between Dining with Shamu and Shamu Rocks?

i have never done either but i know that the Shamu rocks dining you eat dinner and then you have reserved seating at Shamu rocks, dine with shamu doesnt have that.

True, but Dine With Shamu has a whale demonstration and then the trainers will come around to the tables and talk to everyone.
I've done both and each has it's good points. I don't go the to see or find out about the trainers, I'm there for the whales. But that's my personal preference. The food is the same in either case and it's good and plentiful. I did get better service at the Backstage @ Believe but that may have been a case of a more competent and experienced server, I don't know. As I said each had its own good points for me.

In the backstage at beleive or shamu rocks dinner, do the trainers nor whales come out?

Backstage at Believe has a big screen that shows a commentary about how they make/produce the Believe show. All the while there's a stage manager who narrates from time to time walks walks around to the tables to talk to you. After the buffet is done everyone gets led to the stadium and seated in "Reserved Seats" near the center of the stadium.
Shamu Rocks buffet is pretty much the same except, of course the show you see afterward is the Shamu Rocks show.
When we went, there were whales at the Backstage At Believe buffet but there were no trainers. The staff said it is a hit or miss thing about seeing whales at these two buffets unlike Dine with Shamu where the whales and the trainers seem to be the main focus. I guess we were just lucky that time.

save your dough on dining with shamu. I went in oct 2005. it cost $32 an adult. you are seated in two rows of tables that line a small pool. I was seated against teh pool which was complete luck. many people who were in the second row were yelling at the wait staff to be moved to the "inner" row. I am sure SW will at some point ask more for $$ for "premium" seating.

it's a decent all you can eat buffet. the server brings you the drinks. there is a short movie, and then a short demonstration with a whale in the pool. it was because you are much closer than the regular show. the jumps are done far enough away from the diners that you do not get any splash.

it was very hard to see anything from the outer row, so you either stood up to see or you got a very limited view.

i got some great photos. at the end of the show (about 30 mins) the whale swims right up on each section of tables. many people jumped from theirs thinking they were going to get soaked. you dont, but it was funny to see.

then, you are done. you go next door to the stadium to watch the whale show...

shamu rocks seemed to be the same as the daytime show, just done at night.

I have been to Dine with Shamu in 2002 ('inner' table) and in 2005 (outer table). We are going again in September.

In 2002 we had a few splashes from the whales on our table/plates. In both 2002 and 2005 the whales swam right past our table numerous times.

I spoke with Sea World yesterday. They have made changes to Dine with Shamu as now they have the trainers visiting each and every table answering guest's questions. Since my son has wanted to be a Marine Biologist his entire life (he's been telling me for the past seven years that he is going to live on a boat in the ocean studying the orcas for years before he goes to work for Sea World and teaches them about orcas in the wild :worship: ...his words, not mine...he's 13 now). Therefore, it's hands down for us, we will be at Dine with Shamu. The interaction my son will get with the trainers will be worth it for me.
