Difference Between Cat 6 & 7

Considering a first time cruise and I'm wondering what the difference is between a category 5 & 6. The DCL site lists them both as Deluxe State Rooms w/Verandahs, but there is a price difference.

Also wondering what the best way to book would be. Do they ever discount the cruises like they do the resorts? Our dates would probably be Oct or Nov of 2005.

There is no difference in the room for categories 5, 6 and 7. The only difference from category 6 to a category 5 is that cat 5 is one deck higher on the ship. There is one other difference in cat 7 from from all the others as that has a semi-enclosed verandah (Navigator's Verandah). But as far as the room itself is concerned, 5/6/7 are all the same.

As for getting the best rate, book early!! They do not release any discount codes that I am aware of. Instead, they have Early Bookings Savings. Hope this helps!

We have never been on a cruise before, so this may be a silly question, but is there an advantage to being on a higher deck? Is it worth the extra $$ to book a category 5?

Category 6 and 5 are exactly the same -- except 5 is one deck higher (Deck 7). They have the same square footage and balcony. The $200 difference in price is for deck location only.

We have always been told (by TAs and DCL reps) that the sooner you book, the cheaper the price. The reason being that the less full the ship is at the time you book, the cheaper your price. As the ship begins to sell out, the prices rise. We have gotten some very good prices by booking a year and a half out. They give you what is called an Early Booking Savings (EBS).

I don't think there is a real advantage to being one deck higher on the ship but generally speaking (don't know if this is something that has been passed on through the ages dating back to times where social status was a big thing), the higher on the ship the more expensive. But, the higher on the ship, the more motion you will feel. Hopefully, you don't feel any anywhere but sometimes the high seas don't agree.

FYI: I have been told by a CM that a category 7 only accommodates 3 people.
