Just wondering if the 12th floor or 14th floor of the CR would be better for a family with kids ages 8 and 11? What are the major differences between the two besides price and food offerings? Are the rooms larger on the 14th floor? Can you get 2 Queen beds or are there mostly Kings on the 14th floor? Can you see the fireworks from the lounges on both floors and lastly have both floors been rehabbed yet? So many questions! :bitelip:
Thanks so much!

The only difference between the two that I know of are the offerings and the fact that the 14th floor is higher. :p

Neither of them have been rehabbed yet. I can't wait to do 14th floor again! :3dglasses

Hi, I have 3 kids (15, 9 and 5). We have stayed on the 12th floor Tower Club MANY times over the past 12 years. The CR is my kids' favorite WDW resort. I always loved it, too.

We mainly took advantage of the preplanning the concierge staff would do for us and the continental bfast. The 12th also has afternoon snacks, but we were rarely around for those. We all think the concierge staff at the CR is terrific. The 12th floor worked great for us.

That said, we splurged on a MK one bedroom suite last Thanksgiving week on the 14th floor. I was disappointed in the state of that room. It was grungy to say the least. Rehab couldn't come soon enough. The bfast was the same as the 12th floor, the afternoon snacks were, too. We were only around a couple of times for the appetizers and evening treats.

I would definitely do 12th floor again and after the rehab may try the 14th again, but it seems like overkill as we always make great PSs for lunch & dinner and we're not around much to hang out in the lounge. For your family of 4, you just need to figure out if you will be around to take advantage of the food offerings as all else is basically the same. The 12th floor rooms are actually a bit larger than the 14th floor's.

The rehab hasn't started yet on either floor as of last week. I think they are targeting to move the 12th floor (now called Atrium Level) to the 10th floor somewhere around Sept. or Oct., but someone a little more informed can pop in and validate. The Atrium Club (12th going to 10th) will have full offerings like the 14th floor (which will also be renamed) and new rooms once it opens. I believe you'll be able to reserve a MK or Bay view shortly (for a price difference) on the new Atrium level. I like the new added feature to pick your view to this floor. No more having to pray for your desired view, you'll know up front. The down fall is that the MK will book up rather quickly and may not even out the chances for folks.

I just returned from a lovely stay on this the 14th floor. It's is more exclusive and currently only has a few regular rooms as this floor mainly consist of suites. There are regular rooms on the 14th floor with 2 queen beds, but they book quickly so get crackin' if you desire one. They have MK and Bay views for either floor. I reserved a specific MK view on the 14th floor, but I was in an one bedroom suite. It needs a little work as it's an older room, but it wasn't in complete disrepair IMHO. If you don't want to shell out the money for a suite, I bet they may be able to reserve a MK view regular room on the 14th floor. Just ask when booking. This floor is last on the rehab list, but it's going to be gorgeous when they're done. I couldn't get much more details then this. I know rumor has it that they want to expand the 14th floor service so they may move it to the old 12th. I'm just going to sit back and wait patiently to how it turns out. Though I had some mishaps on my trip, the ladies in the lounge did a superb job on making things right. They couldn't be a friendlier group either. In case you are also wondering about the kids and how it would be among a more elite level - I wouldn't worry a bit. I didn't experience any "stuffiness" as I call it. I felt completely at ease with my 9 year old son and he felt right at home.

I think you can see fireworks from both lounges, but I'm not 100% positive. I know you've got an excellent view from the 14th floor. So if you booked a bay view room you can watch the fireworks from the large balcony in the lounge without a problem. Very few folks were even there when we watched them there one night. The other two nights we watched them from our own balcony.

I hope they dont change the rooms in the 14th floor and make them suites. I love being on the highest floor, and it makes it easy going back to your room from the California Grill...just one floor below. :p

I can't wait to check out the 14th floor for myself in a little more than two weeks! I asked for a MK view, but they couldn't guaranty it. I have heard people say that they have told them their exact room number when they booked, but that hasn't been my experience in this case. I haven't been able to find out my view or my room number. Oh well, I will be happy no matter what, since as VAgal76 said, even if you get a Bay View room, you can go across to the lounge to view the fireworks.

ITA with you. I hope they keep those few rooms on the 14th and just add the 12th floor to this level of service if they feel they need to expand. It sounds like there won't be too many differences in service between floors once they're done with this rehab. It seems to me the only diffference will be decor and suite capability unless I'm missing something. Oh, well! This just gives me another reason to return to check it out. ;)

The queen rooms on the 14th floor only sleep four, correct? Can you get a roll away for these rooms?

Do the rooms on the 12th sleep 5?

Just imagining the possibilities!

Thanks.

I believe it comes with a day bed as well, you will have to ask. All the other tower rooms Ive seen had a daybed in it, and if so you can sleep a 5th person there. When we stayed 14th floor a few weeks ago, we originally booked two queen size beds but when we got there they put us in a king size which was great. Lots of room on the floor to lay and play a few games of gin rummy with your favorite person :3dglasses

Unfortunately, the queen rooms do not have a daybed and the max occupancy is 4. They will not allow a roll away for a 5th person. This option was explored by yours truly when booking my trip. You'd have to book the 1 bedroom suite or two rooms on the 14th floor or stay on the 12th floor with the daybed option. Sorry! :guilty: That is the set back staying on this floor.

You're right. We will be there Dec 3rd to the 12 and had reservations for the 12th floor. A few weeks ago, we received a letter in the mail from The CR stating that the 12th floor will have been moved down to the 10th floor and will then be called Atrium Club. I think someone staying in October received a letter like that also. :wave2:

Thanks so much for all the replies!
erinz, I would love to hear what you think of the Atrium Club after your Dec. stay! We will just miss you by a few days!
We will be arriving on Dec. 15th and staying GF Main Bldg. Concierge for the first time! We are really excited ! I'm also trying to plan a Spring Break trip with extended family who want to stay at CR so I'm trying to find out all I can about the CR concierge! I'm leaning toward the Atrium Club since it sounds like it will be all rehabbed by Spring Break!

princessesrule4: GF in December! It will be gorgeous there!

I'll make sure to post our experiences staying in the Atrium Club when we get back. Or even while we are there! ::yes::
