My name is Kevin I'm 43 years old
I was afraid to get on a scale for the longest time.
My weight was up to 265 pounds when I stepped on the scale.

I started thinking about how I lost weight in the past but would gain it back plus more.

I have lost 60 pounds for over a year and it was all done by changing my Lifestyle.
All at no extra cost, nothing to buy, just eating healthy and a daily walk.

:welcome: to the WISH forum!! Great job on your loss and thanks for sharing!

i'm going to move this thread to the main WISH board where more WISHers will see your story. This sub-forum is here mainly to share recipes, so not much chatter here :teeth:

Kevin,

Welcome to WISH!

Congratulations on your lifestyle change. We can certaily appreciate any support you can offer.

WELCOME!!

Yes Kevin you are correct- it is a life style change. Congrats on your success!

I agree with the lifestyle change Kevin! I am also reading a new book by Dr. Phil- 7 Keys to weight lost solution. In the book he also talks about lifestyle changes and how to overcome emotional eating. This book actually subscribes my lifestyle to a "tee". I am an emotional eater like he talks about in his new book. Stress makes me overeat and there are plenty of suggestions and tips to deal with stress in this book instead of overeating. I have lost 5 pounds since last tuesday, I attribute to beginning my exercise once again and drinking lots of water. This book has me feeling great about my self because know I realize what my problems are with being overweight and have made a positive step towards reaching my ultimate goal- to be 150 pounds ( I have a ways to go!!)

Good Luck everyone!!

That's great about the book and you loosing 5 pounds keep it up.
About drinking lots of water try drinking it hot (boiling) it is a natural digestive
it cleans out your system and helps you with hunger craving.

I put about 2 cups of water in a measuring cup I pop it in the microwave for 5 minutes take to work in a Thermos and drink it when I get hunger urges.
It takes a lil to get used to but it works

soccerkid -- i'm not sure i'm reading this right? it seems very dangerous to boil water than drink it! I have read online that some believe there are health benefits to drinking hot water, but not boiling?!

Hi Everyone. I recently had the lightbulb moment, and have begun my weight loss journey. I've lost 8 pounds in the last week and actually ate out in restaurants twice. For some reason, I just get it now. Well it was actually the numbers on the scale that scared me. I've always been up and down, but lately it's just been way up. Thankfully, I'm on my way, and that first week is past me. I look forward to waking up and checking the scale. Yes, I check it everyday. It doesn't change anything, but I will think about it all day if I don't get on. I don't stress if it isn't moving,or egad, goes up. Good luck every one with their journey. Hopefully I will be down 62 more pounds by Christmas!! Wish me luck.

I meant to drink it hot like coffee or tea temp.

Yes my friend I agree with you, and I don't want to give up my favorite food and stuff. I tried weight watcher and it is great. You do have to get to smaller portions but after about 2 weeks you will get use to it. On the point system you can eat what ever you want. On the Core you can not, but it really works. In my first week alone I lost almost 4lbs. It then we to about 1-2 lbs a week, but six months later I am 35 lbs lighter. I love this plan and I buy my own foods and not their food. I also work out 6 days a week.

It's funny, though; everytime I see this line ("diets don't work -- lifestyle change works") I'm reminded of another bit of wisdom: "slogans don't work either". :) Operationalizing the changes necessary to live more healthfully is a lot harder that many folks anticipate, and I see the same problems associated with relying on "a diet" stemming from relying on "a lifestyle change": When the fervor of the initial effort is gone, the discipline (be it "diet" or "lifestyle" -- in my experience, the different is insignificant) slips, and the successes are halted or perhaps reversed. What does work? Recognizing that "the rules apply to you" every day of your life -- that weight problems you'll probably never be able to eat whatever you want and slack off on exercise, and still expect to stay fit, i.e., that you need to be on a diet and exercise program every day of your life. It is important to accept that this is a lifelong commitment to yourself, I believe. So what works isn't a diet or a lifestyle change -- what works is a change in perspective.

I believe to be healthy once again with my diet I have to replace the "bad" habits with good ones such as:

No more snack and replacing it with good foods such as fruits or veggies.
Replacing the pop with water
Exercising and walking more replaced my couch potato self, lol.

Once you get used to the good habits you don't even think about the bad ones anymore. It just becomes second nature by routine, routine, routine.

Good Luck everyone!!

Sorry: forgot to add: I am down 2 more pounds since last week tuesday bringing my total weight loss to 7 pounds!!!

boy am I just the babble head today. Off of work with nothing better to do except be with my dis buddies- ha!! Anyways this may sound silly but I look at my weight loss like the following challenge:

Alcoholics have their booze to contend with,
Drug Addicts need to stay away from the drugs,
and I need to stay away from the bad foods such as:
Potato Chips, pop, Doughnuts, Cakes, Brownies, etc...

These "bad" foods are my drug and I am going to be sober from it all.
One thing though- I tried the lowfat or lite ice cream and it is awesome plus less calories- yummy!!!
