Dieting for Disney

Hi Bubba. I'm glad that things are getting back to normal for you. I've been thinking about you a lot with all that is going on. I'm thrilled to hear that you've been able to take some time out for yourself and hit the gym! Sounds like you're really getting back into the swing of things. Don't worry about the scale too much because you're on the right track. Best wishes as you get back into more cardio, but watch that knee!! I hope I sound like a concerned friend rather than a control freak. ;)

I'm doing.........fair. Exercise has been excellent. Food is great during the week and lousy on the weekend. Well, this past weekend was only one day of bad eating so I guess that's progress!! Dh and I both wanted to lose 10lbs for our trip, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen. However, I want to try to make as much progress as I can. I have to do all of my Christmas shopping/cards NOW so as to be finished before we leave. That's no small feat, but I'm determined to do it.

How's everyone else doing this week?? Come back! :)

I just got back from the gym a few minutes ago. I was able to take a half day at work and get things done a lot earlier than usual which is a good thing. I am hoping the kids won't have a lot of homework so we wil be able to spend some time together tonight.

CJK, I know you are a concerned friend and I wouldn't have taken anything you say any other way. You know, sometimes friends have to say hard facts. The test of true friendship is how you take the truth even when it hurts. What you said didn't hurt at all.

As far as the scale goes at the gym, I actually got back on there today and was shocked. My weight had went down:woohoo: 10 pounds since Monday. That just proves that there can be HUGE weight fluctuations from one day to the next. It can be water weight or whatever. It doesn't matter. This will teach not to "freak" out from weigh in to another. As long as you know what you are doing is right. You can be assured of the long-term results!!

Hope everyone is having a great day!!:grouphug: :cheer2:

Another night at the gym. Tonight was a little different. All I did was cardio. I am trying to rest my body a little so I can do a good chest workout tomorrow night. I am looking forward to being able to lift and focus on that area. I really feel like I am slowly and safely getting my strength back.

I hope everyone is doing well and focusing on your goals. Twotoohappy: How is your marathon training going? Have you reached your 5-8 mile goals yet? How is your time? I know you are going to do well. Just remember to enjoy it and not look at it as a task if torture.

CJK: It is REAL easy to let dietary habits slide on the weekends. I know how that can make one feel guilty or as the saying goes,"one step forward, two steps back". Just ask yourself what is more important. Do you want to obtain your goals before you go on your trip? Or do you want to enjoy that sweet morsale of chocolate (or whatever the temptations may be)? You know that WDW has some fantastic places to eat so let's try to make our goals a reality since we know we may not be as "good" while we are on vacation. Hope that helps!

I know everyone is having a GREAT day and even a better week. The end of the year is coming up fast. Let's try some new stuff. Try a different routine. Different exercises. Wake up 20 minutes earlier and stretch to warm up the body or something. Just do something that is good for you that you may not do now.

Talk to you soon!
Bryan

Ok everyone! It is the beginning of a new week. New week. New Goals! New Achievement! I am trying to "lead" by example as I have been to the gym for the last 2 days and have been doing cardio again to work on my leg strength. My knees are no where near where they need to be but then again, neither is the rest of me. But we have got to get out there and work at it to be able to achieve it.:woohoo: :woohoo: :yay: :cheer2:

This is one of the toughest times of the year to stay faithful to a routine for several reasons. Only one of them has anything to do with the Holidays. We have work, get togethers and the realization that due to the weather, we more than likely won't be wearing anything revealing anyway so why worry. Well, the cold weather will not last forever so those big, bulky clothes will be going back into the closet sooner than you think. Let's make sure that we can look at ourselves with pride everyday!!

Who's with me?:thumbsup2

Hey Bubba! I'm In! I'm new to this thread and have been hanging around the Wish Journals for a couple of days! My next trip to Disney isn't planned for a while *sniff Sniff* But I guess that just means I can lose more weight before I go! Thanks for the pep-talk! Have a great day everyone! :goodvibes

:welcome: AlyssinWonderland! We are very happy to have you join our family. I know I am since I was starting to get lonely. Honestly, as far as the trip goes, I don't have one set up right now either but I am focused right now on being th emost fit family member at our family's Christmas party. That is a very short term goal since we are approaching so quickly. But nevertheless, it is still my goal. What are your goals? Are you trying to get to a certain size, weight or comfort level? What are you doing as of right now to achieve this goal? And last, how open are you to suggestions and lots of encouragement?

Otherwise, I just got back from the gym where I worked out my arms. I feel like I am getting stronger as well as more defined. I am starting to put more focus on cardio and ab work again to try to bring that back out. I know it is going to take time to reach my long term goals but right now, what else have I got? As far as I know, I'm pretty healthy so I feel confident in being around for a while longer. :cheer2: :yay:

Who else is out there? What are our successes so far this week/month? Let's here from you!

Keep up the fantastic amount of effort!!:thumbsup2

I was so looking forward to going to the gym today to do my exercise. I was even going to watch one of the games today while doing cardio. But I got "slammed" with a head cold from working my local high school football game last night. I have been basically a sleep all day long and still don't feel like I can do anything. I have taken some medicine and I am going back to bed. Hopefully, this will blow over real quick and I will be back at it soon.

How is everyone else doing?

Feel better Bryan!!

Just a fly by here........ Things are going well. I've been crazy busy lately with company and other obligations. Eating has been pretty good and exercise is the same. Actually, a weird thing happened on Friday. I got up early and planned to do my usual 4 miles on the treadmill. Well, I did 2 miles and finally had to get off. I had a TERRIBLE cramp and I felt nauseas. Any thoughts on why that would happen? I had to go lie down for a couple minutes. I hadn't eaten anything (except my usual handful of almonds). That had never happened to me before. But, I listened to my body and stopped exercising and have felt fine ever since. Strange.

Anyway, less than 3 weeks to go until Disney so I'm madly trying to get everything done by then - including all my Christmas shopping. Time is of the essence.

Hope everyone else is doing well today! It's a beautiful day today here, if only I had time to go outside to enjoy it!

CJKThank you for being concerned but I am feeling much better today. I was even able to go to the gym after I got off work. Actually, I went to the chiropractor and then the gym. I figure as long as I am going to try to get bigger, then I am going to keep that chiropractor employed. :rotfl: Not really but I have been having a lot of issues with my neck and back due to all of the stress that I have been under as of late. He has really been helping me physically. I just wish that the visits wouldn't hurt financially. Oh well. As the TV show use to say, "You take the good, you take the bad!"

On another note, here in the US we are just literally moments away from Thanksgiving and I thought I would take a minute out and tell you what I am thankful for. First and foremost is my family which gives me strength. Well, actually, I would honestly have to say that first is my faith. Second is my family. A very close third are all of you, my friends that I think about everyday. Fourth would have to be my health. I honestly believe that if it wasn't for all of you, new and old members alike, I wouldn't be in the shape that I am in now. You keep me going everyday and give me the motivation that I need to do that extra mile on the treadmill or that extra rep with the weights. I can never tell you or repay you for what I feel that I owe you. All I can say is Thank you and sincerely, I love all of you.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!!
Bryan

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgivivng. Mine was good. Work was busy and a little stressful but we managed. Today was my first day back in the gym since last Wednesday. I am beating myself up about that since I really wanted to go during the weekend. I just got lazy. No other excuse. Today was a quick workout as all I did was my arms. Tomorrow I should be able to do more and cardio as well.

On another note, where is everyone??? I haven't heard from anyone in over a week. Come back and let us know how you are doing.

Hope to hear from you soon!!
Bryan

Has this become the Bubba and CJK thread?? Come on everyone! It's the holiday season and we need the accountability now more than ever!

Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving Bubba. Don't beat yourself up about not working out during the weekend. I'm glad you had some family time and am sure you're getting back on track this week.

I'm frantically trying to get things finished before our trip. I've had to do all my shopping and write my Christmas cards NOW since I will have no time in December. I love vacation (especially in Disney), but it sure makes you busier right before and afterwards!

As per my usual, exercise is great, food is great during the week and bad on the weekends. This past weekend was particularly bad, but in a strange way, my body appreciated it. I don't think I've been eating enough during the weeks with all the exercise that I do, so I think my body was craving more food. I don't think I gained weight, but the scale will tell me I'm sure!

I hope to post one more time before I go, but if I don't, I wish everyone a HEALTHY and happy holiday season. Here's to making 2008 the best year yet!!!! :cheer2: :grouphug:

Come on everyone! It's the holiday season and we need the accountability now more than ever!

Right, I'm wading in then with my two cents :rotfl2:

I lost a ton of weight (not literally) this time last year, then sabotaged my diet by allowing myself to graze like a hippo over Christmas (and by Christmas I mean from about the 22nd of November until May).

So, I've started over again and have lost about 15 pounds since September. As you can see from my sig, I've got a way to go, but am determined to lose another 30 before my trip to WDW in Oct 08. I think 30 is a reasonable goal and have learned that taking it off slowly is the best way.

It's coming up to eating season again (luckily I'm living in the UK at the moment so I didn't have to contend with Thanksgiving and all its naughty leftovers) so I have decided to put that weight ticker in below in the hopes that the fear of public failure is enough to keep me on the straight and narrow and away from the Christmas pudding!

Misscrossbee Welcome to our smaller than normal but always vigilant group of healthy eaters, encouragement givers and suggestion and advice givers as well.:cheer2: :cool1: :yay: I am hopeful and excited about being able to help you with obtaining your goals. 30 pounds as a goal is very achievable. Since you have lost it once before and done what is normal by actually putting it back on, I see you as being one that will be more enthusiastic about actually sticking to your goals. It is easy to enjoy all of the "Holiday Goodies". It is the determined that make the "healthier" choices. Please let us know if we can help in ANY form or fashion.

CJK I have wanted to say the same thing that you did for a long time but I just haven't had the "guts". Other that you, Twotoohappy and I, it really has been scarce for the last couple of months. We have had a few stragglers come in every once in a while but not often. I guess that I have been quite because I have always thought about the title of the thread, "Dieting for Disney". Well, if you have gotten back from your trip and don't have another one scheduled, there may not be a reason for you to continue on this particular thread. Although, I would love for it to go on for as long as everyone would like for it too. I have a "selfish" side that wants to see it get over 1000 posts. But I am reminded of the main purpose I started this thread. I wanted people who had a desire to have a healthier lifestyle to have a place to come, relax, have a friend that could hold them accountable to their goals and try to answer any questions or concerns that would arise during the journey. I often question myself on that on whether I have done any good or not. I hope so because I know I have had an absolute blast getting to know all of you and as I have said before, thinking of you has helped me many, many times during my workouts.

Speaking of which, I was back in the gym tonight. Very long day at work so I decided to focus more on cardio. I got on the elliptical and did 30 minutes and did over 3 miles. Felt good!! Also, I am trying to do a light leg workout to see if I can build that back up some. I have talked with my Chiropractor and he made the statement that your cardio should be most of what you do for your legs anyway. That and some calf workout and you should be fine.

I hope whoever takes the time to read this post is having both a fantastic week and enjoying their healthy lifestyle. May you achieve all of your goals in health and in life and may you be filled with Pixie Dust!!!!

Love Ya!

Thanks very much Bryan - I'm off to Scotland for a long weekend now and not taking the laptop, but will report back upon my return as to whether I was able to resist the deep fried Mars bars that are their speciality!

Have a great weekend!

Hey all!
Just a quick check in because I'm overloaded with fixing my
thesis for the millionth time.... grrrrr...
Had a great trip to WDW, ate ok, exercised some too.
My dd was sick for part of the trip then I got the bug
and was ill the end part of the trip. I can't complain because
this has been our first trip that we were really sick.
I'm just getting back on my feet so I'll do some slow running
and see where it gets me. I'm just hoping to finish the 1/2
right now. Hope everyone's well and working hard!
I'll check in this weekend!
Have a great weekend and stay motivated!

Quick check in.

Twotoohappy I hate to hear that you and your family was ill while on your trip. It does put a damper on the festivities. I know for about 4 years straight when we went on vacation, I would be sick to my stomach for the first two days. Terrible way to try to relax. Oh well! I am gla you are back and starting to feel better. Here is some pixiedust: to help you along the path for the 1/2 that you have been training for.

Misscrossbee We sincerly hope that you enjoy your time with us here and hopefully you can get whatever you need to succeed. Also, I will add that I hope you have a great time in Scotland. I would love to go there just once to be able to play a round of golf on those wonderful courses. Oh well, it will have to wait but I do hope you have a good time.

Quick update. I was able to go the gym tonight and do another quick workout. I focused on my shoulders and cardio. I was able to get 30 minuted of cardio in which is good for me so I am happy about that. I also tried to do some hanging knee raises for my abs but I had to stop that pretty quick. Something about that exercise really hurts my knee so I am going to have to come up with something else. There are 1000's of exercises out there so I am sure I will find something.

Hope all is well and I look forward to reading more good news from all of you this weekend.

Take care!
Bryan

Another day back at the gym. Actually, first day back since Friday. I like the weekends because it is my chance to recharge from work and sleep in a little but I also hate the weekends because I get very lethargic and lazy. I was able to do several loads of clothes and we put up our Christmas Tree last night but I didn't really do anything active. I hate that. No matter how well I eat, I still feel like I am gaining weight if I am not active.

Well, today I made up for that. I did an hour worth of cardio and I did about 30 minutes worth of a back workout. It has been a loooong time for me since I spent that much time in the gym. It felt good. I actually left wanting to do more. But psychologically, I always want to do more but either physically or time-wise, I haven't been able too. I am going to attempt on keeping up the cardio sessions until I can get back into a healthy condition. Right now, I am feeling fat and sloppy. I don't think that I really am but I just feel that way.

OK. There's my story. Where are you? We have had a couple of "new" family members join but then we never hear from them again. Are we coming up to the end of our usefulness or are we just hitting the holiday skid? One thing about me. I get more motivated during the holidays than I do during any other part of the year. Why? Because I know the warm weather is coming very soon and I will already look good and won't be embarressed about cutting the grass with my shirt off. That's my motivation! What's yours??

Hi all,

Back from Glasgow on Tuesday night and just trying to get caught up at work, plus having a new bath put in and all sorts of trouble with that and now I feel a cold coming on.

Lost a pound while I was in Glasgow, which was a surprise as I ate pretty badly - not a lot, but little 'bad' things like lots of crisps (potato chips) and shortbread! Must have worked it off with the monumental shopping I did - including a trip to the Disney Store.

Hope everyone is well!

It would appear that either we are all exercising too much or letting the Holidays get in the way because no one has been posting recently. Misscrossbee, I thank you for your last post. It sounds like you had a great trip. For the rest of us, it seems like we are lagging. I know I have been. I presonally can't come on here and post if I haven't been exercising. Well, this was the first time I went to the gym since last week. I have been going to a chiropractor pretty regularly recently and I had a bad reaction to my last adjustment. It seriously aggravated a rib below my left shoulder blade making it where I couldn't do anything. I hate that. I can't stand not being able to go to the gym. That is my release and I haven't been able to go. But tonight, I went back. I am still having some issues with my back so I didn't actually lift but I did a solid and hard 30 minutes of cardio on the Elliptical. I have another appointment tomorrow and I am hoping we can get this behind me and then I am going to get back on the lifting trail tomorrow. I can't wait.

Now, there is my story. What is everyone else up too? Let me here from you. I know how hard it gets but we always have to take out just a little time for the improvement of ourselves. If we can't do that, then we are hurting our family in the long run.

Hey All!
Started back eating healthy and heading to the gym
tomorrow after work! I'm having trouble with the outside
jogging, so instead of slip sliding, I'm going to head to the
gym on the treadmill. I know I should be outside, but the
treadmill is better than nothing.
Hope everyone is well. I'm done with schoolwork so I'll
be here a LOT!
