Diet? What diet? A countdown: 18 TS restaurants on TIW card...#1 on pg. 18!

So glad you liked 50's PT - never been there myself, but I was told that my dad got yelled at for trying to hide his greens under his chicken bones and the waitress fed him...while making airplane and choo-choo sounds. I wish I could have seen that!

Meanwhile, Kona...ah, Kona...it's like home to DH and me! (Probably because we're Poly people!). So glad you enjoyed it. Have never tried the pressed pot of coffee but will probably get on this time around! Can't wait! And btw, there is no deciding between Tonga Toast and the pancakes. That's why you order one and DH orders the other and you taste some of his! Those pancakes are so huge, sharing is easy! ;)

I'm loving your reviews! Definitely giving me ideas of where to visit and what to order once I finally get back to the World!

Kona looks AMAZING!

Great 50's Prime Time review. I think it's one of those restaurants that you have to be a good sport about. My dad and step-mom went and, although I consider my dad a very easy going guy who acts like a child himself ;), he did not really like 50's. I just think it was too much for him...lol.

Sorry your dad didn't like it at 50s PT. We act like kids sometimes too! You definitely need that kind of a sense of humor to enjoy eating there!

That's so funny about your dad at 50s PT! I would LOVE for this to happen to my dad if we go there with them on our next trip!! He would definitely find this very funny, and my mom would be laughing on the floor! :rotfl2:

I like your idea about Kona breakfast...DH would probably like that idea too because we both like trying the special items at restaurants like that, you know, the things you can't get anywhere else. I think that's why he ordered the tuna oscar and not the steak...it was something different he knew he couldn't get anywhere else. He likes unique things, and tonga toast & those pancakes would be great!! I guess we will just have to do that...order both and share! With bacon of course! :goodvibes

Welcome to my reviews and thank you!

I was very skeptical about San Angel too. But, I have a couple of friends who have eaten there and recommended it, so we gave it a shot, and we're glad we did! It probably also depends on what you order, but we both loved what we had. Your trip is so soon, you're so lucky! Where do you have ADRs for this upcoming trip?

Sorry, I missed your question when I came back to your thread the last bunch of times! We're just there for 4 nights and we booked dinners at Biergarten, Les Chefs, Kouzzina, and 'Ohana. We have 1 breakfast at Tusker House. I'm a little bit nervous about Kouzzina, have seen some pretty bad reviews here, but we thought we'd give it a try!

Wow, sounds like some terrific places! Don't be nervous about Kouzzina...go and judge for yourself. I learned that by going to San Angel, Chef Mickey's dinner, and Sci-Fi myself! Despite all the negative reviews I read about all of those, we loved every single one of them! :goodvibes

That is so true! I told myself I would go in there with an open mind. It doesn't help that I really wanted to go to Flying Fish that night, but my DBFF that I'm going with wanted Kouzzina. But I did the same to her with 'Ohana when she wanted to splurge on Narcoossee's. We decided not to do any signature dining this time around and save it all for our 40th birthday trip a decade from now! :rotfl2:

That chicken looks great, where did you get the recipe if you don't mind me asking

The chicken was fantastic!! The recipe is on the All Ears site. The server told me how to make it when I asked her, but what she told me is exactly what it says on All Ears under WDW recipes! It's sauteed first, then finished in the oven. It stays nice and juicy and it is wonderful! A definite change from regular everyday chicken dishes! :thumbsup2

Sounds great! We didn't do any signature dining either because I wasn't sure it was the right thing for the kids just yet. I'm thinking of maybe taking them to Yachtsman Steakhouse on our next trip...it's just a short walk away from BWV, and the menu looks to their liking, especially DS5 who LOVES steak!! I would like to go there instead of Le Cellier on the next trip, and honestly, the cost to eat there is not much more than the current cost for Le Cellier's entrees. DH and I can even split the 24-oz. Porterhouse and order an extra side or 2. We're also thinking of going to a signature restaurant just the 2 of us and having the kids stay in the kids' club at the Beach Club Resort one night, seeing as in November 2011 it is our 10th anniversary, and our trip will be the following July. I would LOVE to try Flying Fish, and that's a place I wouldn't take the kids because of DS5's shellfish allergy and what happened at Cape May when we tried to go there for dinner.

I know that jmm476 is going to LOVE this review...because it is sure to change that skepticism about eating at a certain restaurant next month!! So here goes....

And coming in at #2 is.....

KOUZZINA!!!

Surprised? I didn't expect to go here, and this review will prove what I often say, once again...reviews that you read are all VERY subjective and you must judge for yourself before you can truly believe them!

Remember back when I told you guys that we couldn't stay at Cape May Cafe for dinner because my DS5's allergic reaction to the crabs steaming out in the open? Well...when the manager asked which restaurant we would like to try, we said Kouzzina, because it was convenient, not a signature, and not something we had an ADR for already. We figured, it's right on the Boardwalk, we will check it out. The manager of Cape May (Danna) arranged this with the manager of Kouzzina, Felipe.

We got to Kouzzina and were seated right away. Our server (forgot his name, sorry) was amazing! He told us all about the offerings at the restaurant, made some suggestions, and then left us to look at the menu a few moments. He came back and took our drink orders. I was in much need of an "adult" drink at this point, after DS5's allergy scare. I ordered the pomegranate splash, which was delicious. It had some sort of flavored vodka, pomegranate liqueur, cranberry juice and soda. Delicious! DH ordered a Sun-kissed Cocktail, a citrus-y drink. He enjoyed his as well. Here are some pics for you!!

We decided we would share an appetizer. DH suggested the spanakopita (Greek spinach pie). I LOVE this dish, so of course I was very happy! This was so delicious...the filling was very flavorful, and the spinach tasted nice and fresh. The phyllodough on the outside was flaky and nice and crisp! I have had some bad spanakopita and some good...the bad usually tastes soggy, like it is microwaved. This was some of the best I have ever eaten...outstanding! :thumbsup2 Here it is:

The waiter also brought us out some very good fresh bread, and butter with black sea salt. Beautiful presentation, excellent taste!! ;)

The kids wanted me to take pics of their entrees too, so I will post these first. DS5 had the kids' pizza, which he loved. DS3 had chicken noodle soup, grilled chicken and fries. The fries here are sweet potato fries. He ate some of the soup, a few bites of chicken and a few fries. He's in that "I'll eat when I want to" kind of phase, which my older one went through at the same age. His older brother wanted to try some fries, but he didn't like them. He's not into sweet potatoes and said, "these fries taste funny, Mommy!" :lmao: Here are pics of their food:

I had so much trouble deciding what to order. First off, I hadn't really studied the Kouzzina menu as I did the others, because I didn't know we would end up here, and I can be very indecisive when first looking at a menu. :rotfl2: Second, a few entrees contain fennel, which I cannot stand, so I eliminated those. Then, the remaining entrees all looked so good that I had so much trouble deciding what to get. What's a girl to do? :confused3 Well, Kouzzina has the perfect solution for indecisive people like me...give the customer a little bit of all the best dishes!! :goodvibes I ordered the Kouzzina trio, which contains their cinnamon-stewed chicken over orzo, a small lamb burger with yogurt sauce, and a small (though not so small to me) portion of their pasitsio (Greek style lasagna). OH.......MY.....GOODNESS!!!!! All of these were magnificent!!! The cinnamon-stewed chicken was like a whole world of flavors! The orzo pasta underneath was a wonderful complement to this amazing dish. The lamb burger was a bit spicy...I am not into spicy food, but I like mild to moderate spice, and this was just perfect! The yogurt sauce was so good...I asked our server for some extra on the side and he was more than happy to bring me some right away. The pastitsio...well, this was just heavenly!! Meaty, saucy, rich from the bechamel, and delicious pasta!! Eating all three of these culinary wonders made me feel like :cloud9:!!! Here's a pic:

DH decided to order the lamb shank. The meat just fell right off the bone! I tried a bite and it was so tender, juicy and flavorful. DH loves lamb, so this was right up his alley! He was very impressed with his entree. Here's a pic:

We were full, but we couldn't pass up dessert at this place. This restaurant was just too good to skip dessert here!! So, DH and I decided to take a look at the dessert menu. I told him to choose the dessert, since I knew I would only have a couple of bites because I was so stuffed already. He LOVES baklava, so we went with that. This comes with pistachio gelato. The baklava was very good, but I thought it was just a little bit better at Marrakesh. However, the pistachio gelato was out of this world!!! This is a great dessert!!

DSCF2848.jpg

DH also decided to get some sort of iced latte drink with dessert...I can't remember if this had any alcohol in it, but knowing DH, it did! ;)

DSCF2845.jpg

The kids ordered dessert as well. DS5 got the kids' make-your-own-sundae, and DS3 got the make-your-own-dessert pizza. It is basically a sugar cookie with some toppings on the side.

And, to top off our exceptional experience at Kouzzina, our server brought out a graduation cupcake for DS5's pre-K graduation. He made a big deal over him and he felt very special!!

Overall, we were very impressed by Kouzzina and it has become one of our favorite restaurants in all of Disney World!! It was hard to decide whether this should be #2 or #1, but ultimately, there was one restaurant that beat it, by just a tiny margin. You will find that out soon!!

Kouzzina is an outstanding restaurant!! Excellent Mediterranean food, fantastic service, it is beautiful inside, and I think everyone should go there at least once! :thumbsup2

Great reviews and pics. I've been wondering about our upcoming Oct Kouzzina ADR. I'm wondering no more - looking forward to it now :)

 I love it! I am going to order the same thing next month! Pomegranate splash and Kouzzina trio, here I come. I am so glad to hear that it was your #2 of the whole trip.

I'm with you about fennel - I don't care for it at all, and I was worried looking at the menu online that it seemed like fennel was a main ingredient in so many entrees.

Kouzzina is awesome...I hope you enjoy it as much as we did! :thumbsup2

I knew you would be happy to read my review! Fennel literally makes me gag! :scared1: But no worries with the entree I had...and I would gladly get any one of those items as a solo entree too! :goodvibes

Great to read a positive review of Kozzuna. Sounds like it was the perfect change for you.

After panicking about my son's allergic reaction at Cape May, Kouzzina was a very welcome experience. It really turned that evening around for all of us.

I finally caught back up on the reviews but the pictures are gone!!! I'm hoping you get those back up because I really want to see the tuna oscar. I'll cross my fingers.
Thanks for the reviews - they are great!

so pleased you loved Kouzzina. We went last October and had probably the best meal of my life there................going back in October of this year. All the negative reviews had me worried that something had gone wrong.

Had the pressed pot there too and it was very good.

Your reviews have been wonderful - thanks I've loved catching up each day. Just waiting for No 1

Your Kouzzina has literally made me drool!!! I would LOVE what you ordered, but I've just looked at the menu and I don't think there's anything my DH would eat on it. I'm going to work on him later though and see what happens . . .!!!

Edited to add: EEK!! - he agreed to it so I have booked for the last night of our vacation!!! I am so excited! I am ordering what you had!!!!!!

I got an email from Photo Bucket yesterday that my pics will be back up on August 27th...can't get them back up before that unless I upgrade and pay. :headache: Sorry...it will take another 9 days.

I would love to try Kouzzina for breakfast, and have their pressed pot coffee!

I don't think anything went wrong at Kouzzina. I think maybe people are not used to Greek and Mediterranean food, and the style of cooking may not be to their taste. I swear, the more I read negative reviews on these boards and then experience good food at the same places, the more I think that some of these people would just prefer to eat at Applebee's or McDonald's. If that is what someone is looking for at the more ethnic restaurants at WDW, they would be majorly disappointed. Even at Chef Mickey's, a guy was complaining behind me in the buffet line because "what kind of place doesn't have french fries, and this is one of the worst restaurants I have been to because of it". All I kept thinking was, oh please, you could have french fries anytime, but those parmesan mashed potatoes...unique and yummy!

Work on your DH...they serve steak there, and maybe they can make it more plain for him? Sometimes a restaurant will prepare something in a different way as long as they have the ingredients. Or maybe they would give him an adult portion of something from the kids' menu if he likes more familiar American-type foods?

I have booked for our last night!! :cool1: Am very excited! He has told me to always show him menu's when he is hungry in future and he will agree to anything!!! :rotfl2: Can't wait to see your photo's when they are back now online - drool!!!:goodvibes

I booked breakfast at Kona strictly because I want to try the coffee - LOL.

Now I think I need to book Kouzzina too. I want what you had and I can't even see the pictures!
