Diet Pills?

I have no idea which are the best....

I am a super cheap-o, so I have been trying the mega-t green tea w/ hoodia. It is $4 for a 15 day supply at Wal-mart. It seems to be just green tea w/ a few herbs, chromium, and calcium.

As to whether it works... so far I have lost almost 20 lbs, in 2 months, but I have also severely restricted calories and exercised at least 2-3 times a week. I think it might give me a little boost of energy and appetite suppression, but, it could also be only in my head. I figured that every little bit helps though!

A friend tried Hydroxycut Hardcore and lost 10 lbs but her side effects were WAY more than I want to endure.

Anyone else want to share their diet pill advice?

As a guy that has been fat all of his life and has had absolutely no metabolism, I felt like the only way I was going to be able to loose the weight was by taking pills. I did and it worked. I lost 52 pounds on Stacker 2 with Ephedra. But as soon as you get off of the pills, the weight will come back. Maybe not all of it but some of it will. I have out some of the weight back on but a lot of the weight I have put back on is muscle due to the workouts that I have been doing for the last 6 years.

As far as a recommendation, I would say stay away from the pills. They are a quick fix to a lifelong problem. Will you loose weight? Yes! Is it healthy? Not really. The best thing to do is exercise regularly, eat healthy and make sure to rest. The best energy sources are all natural sources and the endorphins that exercise will give you.

For the past 6 months I have been on a 1000 calorie diet, exercising as well. I run 2 miles a day, walk for 30 minutes (while doing physical therapy with my son) I do pilates as well for 30 minutes a day. Not to mentio things like rollerblading, bike riding and any other play activities my kids want to do. Unfortunately I still have not lost weight.

Sounds like your calories are way too low.

Your calories are way too low and your body is most likely in starvation mode - this causes your metabolism to drop very low and therefore you will not lose weight. Try bumping up your calories to atleast 1200 and keep your workouts the same maybe even add alittle strength training. The more muscle your body has the faster your metabolism will be and then you will burn more calories.

I've tried Stacker 3 and Hydroxycut with the same end result...money gone forever. I didn't lose weight on either and my heart raced a lot with the Stacker 3.

Well, I think from what I have heard that phen/fen was the best for appetite control. You can still get phenfluramine but not the fentermine.

Tenuate is a 70's drug that is still on the market and helps some.

There is a new drug that is supposed to hit the market in a year or two. it is called Lorcaserin. It is supposed to be the replacement for phen/fen.

I haven't found any of the over the counter aides to do anything other than lower the weight of my wallet.

I really have found that if I EXERCISE by walking at least 2 miles briskly I can lower my appetite naturally. Now knowing that and doing it are often 2 different things! :rotfl:

oops....I see you asked what the safest were, not which ones work the best.

Not sure there is a safest.

Phentermine is still prescribed and I know someone who has lost a lot of weight on it.....but she basically starved herself because it helped her not feel hungry. I didn't want to just throw money away on over the counter stuff so I went to my doctor. He wouldn't even consider phentermine (I didn't ask specifically for it but what options there were) - he does not feel it is safe at all. He did prescribe me Meridia because he said that he is confident it is a safe medication that he's studied it and the studies they did - the other option he mentioned was xenical - but he said it has the worst side effects - diarreah constantly was all I had to hear to know I didn't want to take it. I've been taking the Meridia for two weeks and I'm not sure if it's working or not really. It's not an appetite suppressant but it is supposed to work in your brain somehow to signal being full sooner. Again...I'm not positive it's working but am willing to continue it longer to see. So far I have lost 4.5 pounds. It is expensive and not covered by my insurance ($105/month) but it's typically only prescribed for 3 to 6 months. I'll probably give it 2-3 months and will then decide if I think it's working and will go from there. I will say I haven't had any side effects from it at all.

My doctor has me on the appetiet supressant Phentamatrine. One half of the diet pill combo Phen/fen. Years ago I was on that dangerous cocktail and lost weight like woah.. but it gave me a bit of a murmur (which has corrected it's self) Now I'm at a little over a 25 lb weightloss in 5 months, and I'm doing well. Does it work? Well I don't have much of an appeite usually. I never used to eat breakfast or lunch and when I did eat, i would carbload. Now I'm making a concerted effort to eat more during the day. *shrug*
