I swear since I started drinking Diet Dr. Pepper that I am hungrier...I never used to want anything at breakfast/before lunchtime, but now I always have to have a snack. Anybody else or is this just my imagination?

Nope - Not your imagination.

My 8th grader had an article in his health class this year that cited a study that showed Aspartame, which is an artificial sweetner, increased hunger in many people.

Several of the people on the study actually ended up consuming more calories during the day than those who drank regular Coca Cola in small amounts and ate small amounts of traditional cookies or sweets instead of the sugar free brands.

I wonder if its only some people because for me, and mind you I actually do not drink diet drinks or soft drinks for that matter very often, when I have a Diet Coke it tends to fill me up.

Me, too.

Sweet things increase your desire for other sweet things. So even though the drink is calorie-free, it does make you want something else that's sweet, too.

Only drink diet drinks, but I have not noticed any difference. I still want to eat anywhere, anything and anytime.

I drink Diet Pepsi and haven't noticed wanting any sweets. Now, I do want chocolate but that's a condition I have no matter what I drink.

I drink ice tea with aspartame all the time and my appetite has never increased. I do know if I have a regular Pepsi not only am I thirstier, but also tend to llook for the sweet snacks to start putting in my mouth...I figure it's my body reacting to regular sugar and once it gets it, it wants more.

I had gastric banding done and the Dr told me today during my appointment that diet sodas do increase your appetite and also anything with caffeine is a major appetite stimulant.

I bought myself a treat last week a 12 pack of Diet Dr. Pepper. I'd drink regular, but I'm on Atkins.
Before I read this thread, I was saying to my DH I couldn't figure out why I was so hungry lately.
I drank the last one a couple of hours ago, so no more for me. I know diet soda isn't good for you anyways, but that DDP is so yummy!

Try Diet Rite! It uses Splenda and is actually better than Diet Coke. It's made by RC and you can get several flavors.

I hate diet sodas because they all have a funny aftertaste to me. But I have to admit that I love some of the Diet Rite flavors. The tangerine and white grape diet rites have a great taste and don't have that bitter aftertaste I find in all other diet sodas. Is it just the aspartame that is supposed to make you feel hungrier? I haven't noticed anything while drinking Diet Rites sweetened with Splenda.
