Diet Coke - odd taste change?

For a while now I've been getting my 20 oz. Diet Coke from the vending machine at work, and it has always had a red cap with the My Coke Rewards code.

Today, I bought a Diet Coke, and it had a silver cap with the code in it. When I twisted off the cap, you'd have thought I shook the bottle a little. It foamed up a little but didn't spray all over.

Then I tasted it, and it seemed.....off. I can't figure out how it's different, but is just IS.

Has anyone else tried the silver capped bottles vs. the red capped bottles? Please tell me my taste buds aren't failing.

I drink a lot of Diet Coke. I did notice the cap change, but I have not noticed a change in taste. It could be the 20oz bottle you had was flat from the loss of carbination. That would certainly change the taste.

I picked up a 20oz bottle yesterday and I thought it was a little flat. :scratchin

If they mess with the recipe of my beloved Diet Coke, there will be H E L L to pay!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I am a complete diet coke addict....as in "step away from the can" type.....

I had to give it up because it seemed as if the nutrasweet (or just the sheer volume of DC) was affecting me negatively.

Anyway, at the store, I noticed that they had regular diet coke next to diet coke with splenda.....they looked almost the same.

Could that have been it? Splenda version?

p.s. laughing at myself for saying that I gave it up.....had a large DC from the fountain (best flavor I feel) for lunch today

I hate it when they "new and improve" things :scared1: -- hope it was just a one shot deal for you. I haven't noticed any change in taste myself.

Check the ingrediants. Are they using Stevia? That would give a different flavor.

My friends keep trying to get me to give up any and all diet sodas. I am not doing well at switching to tea.

Give me cold, brown and fizzy, especially on a hot day. And no calories, please!

As I was reading the OP I was thinking it could have been the Splenda version also. Either one works for me but somepeople seem to have a preference.

I know that they are coming out with new 'Sprite Green' that will be sweetened with Stevia, but I don't think they are doing it with Diet Coke. (although I wish they would)

I had to switch over to Diet Rite, sweetned with Splenda, becuase I was having problems with all of that NurtaSweet, too... :scared:

Well, it seemed carbonated enough. And I checked the bottle, too. It was Nutrasweet, not Splenda. I've tried a Splenda version before and found it nasty.

I'm not sure what the deal was, but it just didn't taste the same. I'll have to do another taste test tomorrow. :)

I am drinking a silver capped 20oz bottle of Diet Coke as I read this post. It tastes completely normal. :thumbsup2
I know some people that work for Coca Cola and I'll ask if any changes are being made to the formula, but based on the fact that my diet coke tastes the same as always leads me to think that you just got a "bad" bottle. Also, you should have a code date on the bottle (mine says May 04 09) which you might want to check. I would suggest that you try another bottle from a different source.

I am a CRAZY Diet Coke drinker. While I haven't noticed a taste change, I have noticed a price change!

4.30 for a 12 pack?!?! on Sale!

Not that long ago it was 5.00 for a 24 pack, now they don't even make 24 packs! Just the weird 20 pack! :snooty:

Something like that happened to me with Dr. Pepper in about 1990. I'd been an addict for years, but then all the sudden they changed something in the formula or something. I stopped drinking it immediately and haven't been able to stand it since :crazy2: .

Maybe I just got a bad batch.

I should go to the store to pick up some Diet Dr. Pepper. I love that stuff. :)

Maybe that batch of bottles was exposed to heat in the warehouse or on the truck - that can affect nutrasweet sometimes.

I have had both silver and red capped diet coke versions and not noticed a difference. But recently at two different fountain drink places, I know I poured diet coke but it tasted like coke or something else. Eeek, I don't need the calories from coke, I use chocolate for calorie intake, have to save where I can.
