But we did! Let me explain. Hubby and I took an adult only trip last weekend to Disney for our 19 year ann. Kids stayed with my parents. We normally stay at Ft. Wilderness in a cabin. We've probably stayed there 14 trips. We've tried other resorts... OKW, WL, Dixie, All star and AKL but the Ft. just has my heart.
Well, since it was only the 2 of us I wanted to stay somewhere different against the will of my hubby. AKL would be perfect. We even had a free upgrade!
We checked in and settled but I was feeling a bit bummed. I figured it was a mix between missing the kids and I had a cold to boot. After lunch at Maya's I decided we should head over to Ft. Wilderness to pick up a ring our daughter wanted made.
As soon as we hit the entrance of Ft. Wilderness I was sooooo excited!! NOW I felt like we were at Disney!! I love the campground. My hubby says... there's that spark you've been missing. He suggested we check out of the akl the next day and rebook over there. I was so excited!
I was so thrilled when we checked into the cabin. Our number was 2752 :thumbsup2 We rented a golf cart straight away and enjoy every min. there. Sad the kids were missing it but ahhhhhh yes, I was at home again!!! It had been 4 months since our last visit... so it was so great to smell the air there. :cloud9:
Anyone else just love Ft. Wilderness??!! I hate being stuck in a hotel room. I love taking the boat to MK or the Contemp. I love Trail's end, I love the shopping, the smell, the open space, the quietness of the whole campground. I just love Ft. Wilderness!!!

We have stayed at the many different resorts also, but there is nothing like staying at the Fort and enjoying morning conversations with others drinking the home made coffee!!!

We stay at the other resorts frequently (will be at Swan next weekend!), but somehow we always find our way over to FW for lunch at Trail's End, or sitting on the rocking chairs for an hour or so. :thumbsup2

dizneydiva2005,

I loved reading your post! We love staying at AKL, but since money is a bit tighter right now, we've decided to try camping at Fort Wilderness in Feb. I had been feeling a little disappointed (actually a lot!) about not being able to stay at AKL, but now I'm starting to get very excited! I hope FW becomes our new favorite resort!

We agree 100% with all the OP said. We would not stay any where else,it's our home away from home.

Glad you had a wonderful time and Happy Anniversary!

Your post has made me even more excited (didn't think it was possible :teeth: ) about our upcoming stay at FW. Lots of people on RV.Net rave about camping at FW. Since we are going to DW we decided to go ahead and pull our travel trailer 900-1000 miles to see what all the gushing is about.

I just love the relaxed atmosphere...natural..we have so many happy memories at the Fort, it is hard for the other places to live up to it..and yes we have stayed on site at other hotels before.

I missed the fort most of all last month when I was in the MK. I felt drawn to the boat at the dock. But I got to ride a boat while I was at the Boardwalk in AUg so that made up for it.

FW sounds wonderful for an adults only trip! No rush to get anywhere, stay out as long as you want, enjoy the boats without making sure no one goes overboard. It's a great place to relax and I'm glad you had such a special trip. :)

We always try to visit the Fort when we're in the area.

That said, we also love AKL. The music at the pool takes me away! There are places there to relax as well, but it takes time to explore the resort and get to know it well. On our last trip there we had a room alllll the way out on the end of Zebra trail and it was fantastic. The giraffes hang out there, plus you can't see into anyone else's room so it's more private than overlooking the main part of the "horseshoe." We also like the small overlooks along the hallways, with the rocking chairs.

When are you going in Feb? I'll be there 1st-4th.

The fort is ABSOLUTELY my family's all time FAVE -- we've discussed other resorts but we always end up here.

Unfortunately we have to go during Presiden'ts Day Week and fight the crowds. My son just started middle school, so pulling him out of school for a week just isn't an option anymore.

Hope you have a fabulous trip!
