didn't pass the mammogram, what happens next? small update pg 2

This happened to me all the time before I had reduction surgery.

First they repeated my mammogram and then did an ultrasound with a needle aspiration.

Every time this happened it would turn out to be a cyst, but it just scared the tar our of me every time.

When I had reduction surgery, all of the cysts got removed too.

I used to have to have a physical exam and mammogram every six months but no more. Now I have the exam and mammogram one time per year.

In fact, thanks for the reminder, it's time to schedule my mammogram.

{{{HUGS}}} sweetie. I'm saying prayers that you are alright and it's just a cyst.

I agree. Try not to worry about the what-ifs. You are probably going back for a mammogram and maybe an ultrasound. More than likely they will see all that they need to see from those. Hugs!

I had this happen a few years ago. Yes, it does scare the bajeebees out of you. The Radiology center I use is wonderful. When I received 'the letter', I made the follow-up mammogram appt. This was made for within a week, MUCH quicker than I had to wait for the first one.

The technician showed me the spot that was causing the concern before she took the follow-up mammogram. The Radiologist confirmed within 5 minutes or so. I immediately went into the ultrasound room, no waiting for another appt. as they planned for this contingency. The ultrasound tech couldn't find it and she brought in the mammography tech to help locate it. Still not found, so the Radiologist came in. She still couldn't find it, but it was great to be able to talk to her and get questions answered.

It was my option whether or not to have the biopsy or wait 6 months for another mammogram to look for changes. I had the biopsy and everything turned out well. Now I have a tiny, tiny chip inserted at the site of the biopsy for future reference. (DH says that is so I can be tracked world wide. ;) )

Anyway, one of the things the Radiologist explained is that there had been a VAST improvement in the films/techniques used for mammograms since I'd had my previous one a few years prior. It wasn't known if the change seen between the two sets of mammograms was an actual change in me or because of the improvements, she was able to see somethng much better that had been there all along.

Although it was VERY scary, I felt it was worth it if the improvements made finding, and treating, cancer earlier in someone else (possibly me someday).

Good luck {{{{HUGS}}}}

Here is hoping the best to you. Keep us informed.

My mom is going through this right now.

She had her 1st mamo
Then they called her back for a repeat.
Well, that wasn't enough. Next was a chest x-ray.
After the chest x-ray she was sent for a catscan.
After the catscan, she was sent for an MRI.

We're waiting for the MRI results as we speak.

*crossing fingers*

Hope all goes well with your tests! :D

Hope everything goes well for you bumcat.

I have had mammograms where they have needed to get higher quality x-rays to determine the meaning of something that looks a bit different than previous years.

It has always turned out to be nothing.

Makes me sick to my stomach until I know however. My mom died at the age of 45 from breast cancer. I'm 42 now.

i usually have to get an ultrasound after a mamogram because of fatty cysts. I also got "the letter" that stinks, i think a phone call is much better,when the first one came i freaked. I expect it now as routine for me.

Sending hugs and pixie dust. Hope it's nothing.

I have an appt. at the hospital next wed. for a magnification and spot compression view. They are focusing on one small area. This is not where I have been getting my mammos but the place that I go to is connected with this hospital. When I asked the lady why did I need to have it done at the hospital she said it was because the radiologist would be there to read the results. This makes me a little nervous but I'm glad they are taking it serious and making sure all is ok.

Continued good wishes and prayers, bumcat. Hoping all goes well, sure sounds like they are on top of it. My very best for you.

{{hugs}} I'll be praying for you next week. I think the waiting is what is going to worry you the most. {{hugs}}
