Didn't care for POP

I think you really expect too much of kids to be quiet all the time in a hotel. Of course at night you expect them to be extra quiet and obviously not screaming at all but - THEY ARE KIDS! I also think you should invest in a deluxe. We never hear any noise at GF, so hopefully no one hears the noise from our kids (3 kids).

stemikger, your poem made me smile...thanks for sharing your cute prose! :wave2:

We always try to teach our kids to be quiet and respectful in hotel corridors, but it amazes me how many families and adults just slam doors and make tons of noise. In the beachclub last summer a family of four was up at 7am and screaming down the hallway - do you have the passes? We ended up getting moved to the end of the hallway because the service elevator kept me up all night and it was much quieter.

I never said I "liked" the other value resorts.
I had read good things about POP so thats why I chose it. plus the rate was too good to refuse.

{snipity-do-dah!}

anyways, I learned my lesson and will only stay at the hotel which I can rest and get a good nights sleep at and thats the Contemporary. wing room only.

So ... are you saying that you don't like the Value resorts in general? Then it makes a lot of sense that you didn't enjoy 10 days at POP. I can totally understand that since I am a recovering "resort snob". Even though I like POP, I think 10 days there would be also be too much for me. On my first reading of your post it seemed that you liked the All Stars but didn't like POP. I think many of us were confused that you were not prepared for the "Valueness" of POP. I think it's perfectly OK not to like Value resorts. Personally, I prefer a resort with a slide and a hot tub. I also like to save money, so POP is a-okay for a weekend before moving into our DVC resort.

I have to agree with you on the Contemporary :). My DH convinced me to cancel my reservation at the CR (only $131 per night ... wah!!!) for a savanah view at AKL. My family loves the animals and my husband rushes to the window every time we enter the room to check out what's outside. Heck, it's his vacation too. I'll just book the CR for me next time ::yes::.
:scratchin Or maybe the Polynesian if the rates come down enough.

I would probably stay there again if ASMo was not available and I had abetter view. The computer pool was nice, the trail around the reort was fun, my DS's loved the twister game, the CM's were wonderful, and the bus service was the best. I would do it again except I could not do that view again. I know it sounds silly but the whole idea of staying at Disney is to step into a different world and leave reality behind. We always park our car and don't come back to it untilwe leave to go home. That is what Walt intended especially after what happened with DL and all the development around it. He wanted a magical place where families entered his world of magic and a busy highway was not magical. I was also not happy with the food court or the required walk through the store to get to the food court, not just because of my DS's desire to buy things but mine too. I would recommend this resort to others if they were into the theme and could not get into ASMo. I am sorry if any of my opinions caused other Dis members to be upset or feel the need to defend POP. It is just not my cup of tea but that doesn't make it a horrible resort. princess:

if it was outside Disney property, it would be considered a cheap motel

Nah, I've been in some of the cheap motels outside of Disney..no comparison. The $30 - 45 motels outside of Dis are pretty bad. We like POP. POR is our favorite, but POP is second best.

A few suggestions for your next visit:

If you're unhappy with your room, you can always room change. Just visit Guest Services, and they will set that up for you. Luggage Assistance will even move your bags for you.

As for the food court, an easy way to get around your dillemma would be to enter through the entry doors on the Hippy Dippy pool side. :)

I've never stayed at the other Value resorts, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed Pop in August. I consider myself a Hot Tub Snob, and so had only stayed at mods and deluxes. After August, we even gave up our usual Priceline first night hotel to stay at Pop one night during Don's Extravagant Birthday Trip. I will use it again whenever I can't get a code rate at Deluxes or Moderates. We're new DVCers, but I don't want to waste points on Fridays or Saturdays.

I just returned from Pop (last week) and had no problem with this resort. Actually I just returned from my 4th trip this year. We stayed at Pop in May and Octobr and WL in January and July. I agree with other posters that you can list pros and cons for each resort. While at WL we had a terrible "woods view" room and housekeeping barely made it to our room by 4:00 PM everyday. We love WC and hate RF. Getting a chair at the mainpool is impossible unless you're there at 9:00AM. As for Pop, this is a great value for the money. The cast are top of the line. Whether we are cashing a TC at the front desk, in the food court or the store, we always had wonderful CMs to deal with. We often would go to guest relations to make a PS for a meal (or cancel one) and find they were so wonderful. We lost keys and they were quickly replaced. Even once got locked out while a child was sleeping. The CM was at our room in minutes to unlock the door. When staying at a Delux we miss the value food courts and when staying at a value we miss the restraurants--no problem, we rent a car and zip to all resorts. We must have a hot tub in the cooler months, so stay at a delux (WL or CR) to fill that need. But during spring and fall (which are often 2 week trips each) we find value resorts fill our need. We need a "ground zero" location. A place to sleep and shower and grab a cup of coffee in the AM. We do find one of the biggest waste of our money are the moderates. They are neither value in price nor are they delux in accommodations. We choose not to stay at them anymore. I do have to admit that I had a king bed during our May visit and 2 full beds during our Fall visit to Pop. I did find the 2 full beds to not be very comfortable, especially for a 12 night stay. Our housekeeping during our October trip was WONDERFUL. She knew we left early and we were always her first room at 8:00AM. We had 3 rooms for our October trip and the resort went to great lengths at keeping us side by side (even though I told them they didn't have to worry about it--adult kids). I highly endorse this resort and already have my 2 weeks booked for May this year. (Along with my January trip to WL and my September trip to CR). Will be booking my October trip this week at Pop also. I am so grateful that Disney considers the needs for ALL families and made these value resorts available as an alternative to staying off property. My first trip to WDW was in 1987 and there was only 3 resorts, nothing a single parent of 3 could afford. We saved for 2 years to go and stayed at the Govsner. Happily our next trip in 1989, Carribbean Beach openned and I made a ressie over a year in advance to get in. It was $69 a night rack rate--regular season (no discounts back then). After that Disney realized that if you could make it affordable more could afford to come......Thank you for the value resorts!!:wave2:
