Didn’t get section we requested

::yes:: If visitors keep reacting this way, at some point WDW is going to completely eliminate the ability to request. Even at Port Orleans.
Yeah not getting a room request is not grounds to complain.
When I went in late August we were given an accessible room which we had not indicated a need for and since my sister is tall she was not a fan so we politely went down and asked if there was another room available in that area. The CM found one but had she not we simply would have taken what we got because you get what you get.
Entitled guest ruin things by making a big stink as though the rest of us did not also get rooms we were not thrilled with or as though we didn't pay as much as they did.

People need to realize that a request is just that, a request. There is no problem with asking for a different room location. But sending off an e-mail when you got exactly what you paid for is a bit like having a temper tantrum. I agree, if people keep having fits when their requests are not met they will just stop offering the ability to even make a request.

"Reacting this way"? You mean, asking for a room that's in good shape? There's nothing wrong with a customer wanting that, especially at Disney's price points.

If guests who really care about their rooms can't be persistent about trying to have their requests granted, then there is no point in having requests available, anyway. So it wouldn't matter if Disney eliminated the ability to request, if the guest has to allow the request process to be no more than luck of the draw, anyway.

I agree with @maxiesmom Sending an Email in this situation is a lot like having a temper tantrum
No, it isn't. Sending a polite email requesting a better room is in no way like throwing a tantrum or having a fit. Both of those terms are extreme, inaccurate characterizations of what the OP described.

Since when is sending an e-mail the same as having a temper tantrum? Did I miss something on this thread? Did the op post the e-mail? Do you know the content of the e-mail because I didn’t see it? The op said she nicely went to the desk to ask for a room change and some people think that’s wrong? Say it’s making a scene? Accuse the op of having a temper tantrum? Gets a room with a filthy carpet and doesn’t have the right to say something about that? You can stay in filth for a week I’m not!

I always stay Value. I haven’t been here for 5 years. Have probably been here 10 times. These rooms are in really bad shape. Carpeting is sooooo worn. I don’t think this room should cost the same as a refurb room.

Perhaps I missed it but where did OP say the room is filthy? Her quote above says carpeting is worn. Hardly the same as the room being filthy. Seems to me OP is mad about not getting the room request and looking for something to complain about.

Ok you got me, she didn’t say filthy. In my opinion, a worn carpet in a hotel is filthy. And the op got the room she requested, they were being moved to it the next day.

The OP actually isn't mad at all because she's now in the room she requested. To achieve that, she:
1. Made a request online, then when that didn't work she
2. Asked at the front desk, then when that didn't work she
3. Emailed the manager expressing disappointment at having a worn room in a hotel where many other rooms in her category are recently refurbished.

In other words, she was politely persistent. Which is a good thing.

May I ask what happened that makes you this sure that your requests were never received or considered?

Room assignment isn't nearly as simple as many people think. Ideally (from any hotel's point of view) there must be a room or rooms available for the exact length of stay, preceded immediately by the previous visitor checking out earlier that day, and followed immediately by new people checking in the same day the current party checks out.

Ever play Tetris? Try doing that with 1,900+ hotel rooms.
We had 4 rooms, asked for 2 of the rooms to be connected (a specific 2, yes all info. on 5he request that was faxed and given over the phone was correct) and to be on ground floor of possible. We got there and those 2 rooms weren't connected and we were on 3rd floor. At first we thought that it just wasn't available (odd as we've always gotten connected rooms when asked though), we start to leave the checkin desk and I pull up a map of the resort rooms on my phone and find out that in our group of 4, 2 of our rooms are connecting just not the ones we asked for. We all got there at the same time etc., we went back to switch the rooms around and my mom (has some mobility issues and cant do stairs) mentioned that she was also hoping for ground floor. The CM who was helping us was great said he'd look and very quickly found 4 rooms together (2 connecting) on the ground floor and moved us there. He told us that it really just depends on the room assigner and that some are better than others at looking for room requests, so I will always from now on ask at checkin if it's something I want instead of just assuming they must not have had it available as there's no way that neither of our last requests weren't available, especially the connecting rooms one, it was, it was clear which rooms we wanted connected, they just didnt care or look etc.

ETA: Yes, the rooms were in the same preferred category and even in the same building.

I agree with this. All the OP asked is would it be better to call or wait to check-in to request a different location and there is NOTHING wrong with that. The first handful of responses kept to the point and then it went off course with a request is not a guarantee, be happy with what you get, complaining doesn't help, don't get worked up...
To the OP, we have done both, but found handling it at check-in was less work. I will also say that it can be done over the phone but it is lengthy and you have to deal with being transferred etc.

Not the way I am reading her post at all. To me it sounds like she is upset she didn't get the room location she requested, and instead of understanding and accepting what a request is, kept at them until she got what she wanted.

The adult equivalent of mommy mommy mommy mommy. Push until they placate you.

For someplace as big as WDW and for what they charge for the rooms, I don't think that it is at all unreasonable for them to replace/clean the carpets on a more regular basis. There is no excuse for a hotel that is doing well to let the rooms get shabby.

The OP was upset before she saw the room. It has to do with not getting the exact location she wanted.

I understand that. But my statement still stands about the quality of the rooms. Over the last 2+ decades that I have been staying at WDW, there have been times that we have had rooms that were well past their prime. In this day and age of technology, we all know what is being refurbished. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be in one of those rooms, especially since they cost the same.

Requests are request
Everyone going to Disney has a room request
They can’t get everyone the exact room they want or building etc
It’s always disheartening to see posts like this where people expect perfection at Disney
No place or nobody is perfect!

I think OP was wrong and petty emailing the manager and getting so worked up over the room location. I’d be enjoying my time at Disney with my family- a family in my town had to take their first grader off life support after donating her organs and saving others. This as result of tragic accident.

I think basically she wanted a refurbished room as she is staying at all star movie resort and there is only two sections I think with rooms that have been redone. Yes it is nice to stay in a newer room. But it is a chance you take when you book at a resort that is having work done. If you want to make sure you have a new room then stay at a resort that is done being worked. I personally would not send an Email after being told no, but that is just me.
