I worry about this too. I'm planning our first cruise for dec 2016, and my son and I are both prone to motion sickness. I'm hoping it wont be too bad on a big ship
Anyone with experience with kids who are boaters? My kids are used to be on boats, small ones, and DD sails her own opti in the open ocean (so, she's pretty experienced with water-based motion) and DS will start next year. I imagine the motion is worse in a small boat, but having never been on a cruise, I'm not sure.
Its just a different kind of motion on the cruise ship-I find it to be much bigger movements on a cruise ship vs. the small rolling movements we get sailing or on a small boat. Sailing and small boats can make me ill at times, however I survived a 5 night cruise at 8 weeks pregnant (with morning sickness) without much of an issue.
Kids are much less likely to get motion sickness than adults so if your kids are boaters and fine I am sure they will be fine on the cruise.
My daughter is prone to motion sickness in cars and buses, but has never had a problem on the ships. She's been on cruises at age 2, 4, and 6 and no problems. So one doesn't necessarily mean the other.
There was a lot of wind on our sea day going up to Alaska and a little movement of the ship. I think I really only noticed it once or twice where the water was a little rough, but not terrible. At night there was a little rocking back and forth but my nephew did fine. I was worried I would get sick, but I can talk myself into being sick. (anxiety) I had a massage on day one and was relaxed and fine after that. I think there was a bigger adjustment for my nephew when we got off the boat lol. He kept feeling like he was still on the boat for about a day after.
My son had a little bit of an issue on our last cruise. We seemed to be setting sail during dinner every night on our 3 night Bahamas cruise. The initial jostling of the boat combined with trying to eat just didn't work for his tummy. He usually ate what he could and then took off to do something more active that would distract his body.
