Well, considering we didn't get to put it up until only 1 wk before Xmas, I'm not sick of it yet. Hoping to find time this weekend though to take it down, since we'll be busy the weekend after that.
My biggest problem each year is what to do with the crappy gifts we receive from DSIL. Where to put them? Sell them? Donate them? They hang around for weeks until I figure out where they are going.
No, but I have an artificial tree. I was always brought up that it was bad luck to take it down before New Year's. I don't know who came up with that, but it is a tradition I've held on to.
It will come down New Year's day though. I am ready to have my house back to normal.
Originally I said we would leave it up till New Year's but we are taking it down tomorrow evening. We always put ours up on Thanksgiving night (the kid in me is so excited and just can't wait any longer!) but I get tired of all the space it takes up after a while. I think I ended up taking it down before New Year's last year too.
ETA: I guess I should say it's coming down this evening since it's after 2 a.m. already!
When I was growing up, we didn't take our tree down until after January 7 (??...around then), because we had to wait for Three Kings Day or something like that. Now, I usually take the tree down on NYE.
We usually take our tree down after New Year's also but my cat kept eating the plastic fake pine needles and throwing up everywhere in the house so I had no choice but to take it down early.Or spend New Year's cleaning up cat puke.
Happy New Year!
Debbie
Why do most seem so rushed to take it down? I am not. I have so many friends (card people you know who you are lol) on my tree that I am sort of dreading taking it down. They may be online friends but some of them are closer to me than RL people I have known for years.
When I was younger, we took it down on New Year's Day. When my daughter was younger, we took it down on "Little Christmas" January 6. This year, I took it down Thursday because I wanted my living room back!!!
