Did you Square Dance?

When I was in elementary, junior, and senior high school, they always had square dancing in gym class, usually right before Christmas break.

They still have this in our school system today, and my kids are participating now. They have to, it's required.

Did they, or do they now have square dancing on the gym class curriculum in your area?

Did you enjoy it as a kid? Or now, as an adult?

I square danced in Gym as a kid! I think it was elementary school only. I remember the agony of having to dance with boys...
I think it is a good thing. Although not too many kids today find agony at dancing with the other gender, more like agony of listening to music without a thumping bass-beat.
BTW, I am thirty years old.

I VAGUELY remember having to do this in elementary school (all those eons ago). And actually, I thought it was kind of fun (more so than some of the other "gym" activities).

Oh Yes!........I have very vivid memories of my last foray into Square Dancing!......I was 14, Freshman year, gym class.......I broke my ankle!!! Never did it again! LOL! I just turned 39 and the ankle still bothers me, on occasion.

Not in gym at my Catholic school, but I remember going to the father/daughter square dance with girl scouts.

I remember having Square dancing in gym. I think 6th or 7th grade. I remember hating it. I was shy when it came to dancing with boys. As an adult I think it would probably be fun.

We had to square dance in middle school (I am 25). Two years ago we had square dancing at a sorority convention that I went to and it was a blast. It was all women but some of us wore cowboy hats so we danced the "male" role. I wouldn't mind doing it again and I despise more traditional dancing.

I went to a lot of square dances in Girl Scouts and I always really enjoyed them! Haven't square danced in many years!!

We did this in gym class too, and I went to an ALL GIRLS Catholic high school!!! Made for some giggling when you had to dance with your friends, but it was pretty fun...not sure if they still do it though...

I graduated in 1978 and we had square dancing, as our gym class, one semester. I guess I liked it (we're going back over 25 years here! lol), something different. We had co-ed qym, too.

I remember doing Hoe Down style square dancing in elem. school ( now thats going way back in time heehe) but since then found there are several clubs all over the world now that do square and round dancing ,which is different than hoe down style in fact the national convention in 2001 was At Disneyland. Its great fun, good exercise. and lots of fun folks.

We never had any type of dance lessons in my schools. I did take a Cajun dance class when I was in vet school at LSU, though. I wish I could do that again, though I'm far from any place where I could put it to use.

I remamber square dancing in Elementary School. I had a blast doing it and wish I still remembered all the steps.

LOL! Nope, I've never squared danced. I can't even dance in a regular way, much less take directions as I try to figure out where my feet should go. I'd get very confused. Besides, I don't like country or country & western music.
