Did you see the temporary closures starting Jan 10, 2016?

Wow. We haven't been for a few years and we're thinking of AP's for our family next year. If there is a wall running from Critter Country to Frontierland it might not be so exciting. I don't even like the canoes and steamboat but the scenery ads so much to the atmosphere. None of us have seen F! yet either. Either our kids were too little to stay up, it was down for refurb, or we were there on weekdays during the offseason. I've been researching how to have a good F! experience. I guess I can stop now.

It was discussed here some time back. I'm sorry but I don't remember the sources or who posted it but it was just a conversation like this one. I don't know if it's a sure thing but much of it makes sense. Autopia takes up a huge amount of room and has not been kept up as well as all the other attractions in the area leading one to guess at it's future. They could utilize the Sub area too (which some believe is very expensive to run) and end up with a huge area in Tomorroland (where I feel it belongs)

Star Wars is not going in Tomorrowland so there is no reason to close the rides. Rumors suggested that Innoventions, Autopia, and the Subs could be used for an expansion such as Star Wars, but Star Wars is going in the Ranch area and backstage.

Now this makes me wonder what they are closing at WDW & where this land will go as we are going in Dec 2016.

Same here except we purchased AP's two days ago. Now I'm wondering if we can exchange them for 5 day passes and get some money back.

We haven't bought our tickets yet... we are planning on purchasing the week before (since we are driving, nothing is pre-paid, so I want to wait to purchase the tickets just in case someone gets sick and we have to cancel the trip). Anyway, we are planning on upgrading at the park on day 3 (so we can use the Magic Morning).

A couple of years ago, Fantasmic was dark for six months or so. I think they actually drained the ROA during that time. No boats or Tom Sawyer island then, either.

It was definitely a bummer, but now with Paint the Night, the fireworks and WOC, there are still a number of evening entertainment opportunities.

One unexpected bright spot was how easy it was to move around New Orleans square at night! No fighting crowds to get places.

One rumor suggests they're creating an entrance from Critter Country to Star Wars land. No one knows if that's true, but I don't see why else they would need to close the rivers.

I hadn't thought about that idea, but it actually makes a lot of sense. I can't really see why else they would need to close ROA for so long. It's always seemed awkward to me to have Critter Country be a dead end. I could totally see them creating a pathway that wraps back around to Star Wars land and Frontierland on the other side of the river. That would be great.

I would certainly be disappointed if I was only able to visit next year and I just learned these things were happening. I had an AP for the first time this past year, and it ends in December, so I'm thinking I will just let it expire. It sounds like the next couple of years will be a good time to take a break from DLR and go on other types of trips.

from a map I looked at. I think if what i've read heard seen might be true. The back of toon town will betaken out (houses and things moved to front) getting rid of some rides and empty area that is just taking up space. Then Star wars land will have an entrance from Toon town, maybe from tomorrow land too going to the back of the cast member area, and maybe one where bg thunder ranch is at now. (behind fantasy land on that bridge.)

I think it would be smart to have 3 or at least 2 ways in and out.
I too think the subs and autotopia is a wasted space and could be used in stead of losing the ranch.

I know we are going before the closures but I suspect we will not be back for at least 2 years after this. I also know no one likes FP+ but I think it would be a good time to add fp+ to Disney land , at least in a way.

I also hope they fix F. I want seats brought back. I do not think half of the stuff they did last year for F worked. I miss the old way to see F. If anything maybe add stadium seats while it is shut down.

Also i did read about one person having a cm on her twitter account who said it would be 18 months not 12. This is a rumor but still worth saying so others can plan ahead.

We were there when ROA was drained...it was somewhere between 2009-2011. I'll see if I can find a picture. It was a bummer, especially since then there were less nighttime options! (No WOC yet, as I recall) With Paint the Night, the fireworks and WOC, at least there's still a lot of good nighttime entertainment!

I can't envision how they can add stadium seating to F! around the ROA, without completely changing (and IMO, *not* for the better) the look and feel of the ROA. There just isn't the space to do that like there is in Hollywood Studios.

Goodness, I don't want any of the same things you do. The things of which you refer would so change the magic of the park. Make it, idk, more WDWish. Please no.

Remove the subs? So the lagoon goes and there with it the movement, color and ambiance it provides. I don't even like the ride, but remove it? Thumbs down.

Add stadium seating. Horrible idea imo. NOS is sublime. I'll take F! crowds and sitting on the ground every single day over anything that undermines NOS.

And lastly F+. Ugh. Groan. Please no. While I do actually suspect, even expect, it'll be in SWL, it doesn't make me think it will be good. Cause once it's here, here it stays. DCA got through RSR, DL could get through SWL. Yes it took years for that ride to level out, but I'll take that anyday over the loss of spontanaity that will last far longer than the crowd rush to SWL.

Fortunately I think of the above things, only FP+ has a chance to happen in the near future (being the next decade.)

Did they put a wall up all the way around ROA last time it was closed? The OC Register says that the river will be "partially drained". But, I think only time will tell. Or maybe I'm just trying to make myself feel better since I have a trip planned for March:o.

The only ride over in that part of Toon Town is Gadget's. It would be really sad to lose the only kiddie coaster so they can build another entrance to Star Wars, which will have no kiddie rides. Unless they somehow managed to build a cool kiddie coaster over at Bugsland, but that's wishful thinking on my part.

I'm sure there will be at least 2 ways into Star Wars land. I like the idea of connecting Critter Country to Star Wars. One less dead end. I guess they'd get that by connecting Toon Town too, but I still don't like the idea of losing the coaster.

I agree with you on FP+. I think they can do it as long as they do it in a way that only allows people to make FP reservations after having scanned their tickets. More like a digital FP enhancement, than what they have at WDW. Of course they could offer pre-bookings to Disney Hotel guests, giving another incentive to those choosing to stay on property.

We don't necessarily need seats back, but I wish they would have as much seating area as they used to. There is no reason for them to have all those standing areas. No one wants to stand in place for an hour and a half while waiting for and watching a show after having been on their feet all day. And I think FP+ would really help out with the shows as people could choose their color and location easier.

Could be. The Disney blog and OC just said at least a year. I'm sure they're not giving a specific date because it could take longer than they like.

Wow! For me of all these closings that one that really hurts is the Railroad. I haven't been to Disneyland since the 80s as I'm on the East Coast and I really wanted to go back next year with my husband who has never been there but now with the RR closing, I may be rethinking this. This is seriously impacting my decision. For this trip I really wanted to immerse myself into Walt Disney himself and even do the tour. The RR is such a big part of Walt and without that, I feel I would miss quite a bit of the experience. I don't think SW really belongs in DL. This park is Walt Disney to me and SW has no connection to that park. Like I said previously, I've only been to DL once, but if I were a local, I wouldn't be very happy about putting it there and I'm surprised there is not more outcry over the decision.

I am very disappointed to read this. Aside from the SWL which I am not a fan of at all, for me, it's the closing of the RR which is upsetting. I would love if it were being re-imagined even a little bit and closed for that for a little while. I sincerely count on the RR to save on walking. If it truly closes for a year+ that will limit some of what I am able to do.

Davin_Felth, I do love that quote of Walt's :) Lol, I just personally wish it'd grow in other ways but am glad for those of you happy about SWL :)

I agree! Not sure Walt would have something like SW in mind for DL. Particularly not at the expense of his beloved RR.

IIRC, there were walls up everywhere. Still looking for that external hard drive :)

No one knows what Walt would have wanted. They're not closing his beloved RR forever. It's only for a year or so. And it's certainly not the first time it's been closed, nor the last. Walt wanted a park that was fun for the current generation, he wanted a park that was innovative, and he was one to favor popular ideals. It's not hard to believe that he would want Star Wars in his park. Though we can't ask him.
