I've seen babies of all ages on it (newborns-1). I think if it's safe for a newborn it's definitely safe for a baby still gestating. Of course this is just my opinion, and I'm not a doctor.
I rode it at 27 weeks. I asked to be sat up front. Dh was initially worried about me riding it, but after the ride he agreed that it was no big deal. It was the only ride I went on that had a warning for pregnant women.
My thought has always been that even if it's being way too cautious, what am I am really going to lose by taking the safest path with my unborn children? I wouldn't ride it.
I used to work at the Safari, and we had lots and lots of pregnant women ride. A good number of them requested to ride in the front, which is very easy to accomodate. The front is definately less bumpy than the back, but HOW bumpy depends upon how the driver drives.
To a PP - I can't BELIEVE someone told you you COULDN'T ride! We are trained to NEVER EVER even assume someone is pregnant, even if they're obviously like, 8 months along! That's crazy. If anyone ever tells you you "can't" a milder ride like the Safari, definitely ask for a manager!
I rode it my 2nd pregnancy--about 4 months along and my 3rd--about 5months along. I had discussed it with my doctor, my feeling is that if they let little ones ride I would be fine as the baby inside was far more protected. The doctor agreed it would be fine. The ride is bumpy though.
Went at 7 months and the CMs said I couldn`t ride, my husband was relieved because he didn`t want me to but I was insisting - I love animals and really wanted to go!
I was 6 months when we traveled and I didn't want to take a chance. It wasn't fun sitting out, but I had gone on during previous (non-pregnant) trips so it wasn't a big loss.
....I just asked for the front seat which is a little less bumpy.
Second this, I was 29 weeks along though.
As far as disney recomending not to ride, they may have changed this since, but I remember at one time the said not to ride Peter Pan while pregnant. I think it is all what you feel comfortable with.
I went to Disney at 36 weeks and skipped the safari. It's one of my favorite things to do- and I'm sure it would have been fine, but I just didn't want to take any chances, no matter how miniscule. The idea made DH nervous, too. We found so many other things to do that it really wasn't a big deal.
