Did you REALLY see giraffes?

The one thing that really attracts me to the AKL is the mental picture of sitting on my balcony, sipping coffee and seeing giraffes up close and personal early in the morning.

Yesterday a friend told me that lots of people don't see the animals at all during their stay.

I'm interested in giraffes particularly---not zebas, ostriches, etc.

Did you or did you not see giraffes when you stayed at the AKL? What time of year did you go and where did you stay?

THANKS. This will help me choose a month to go and between staying long or staying first class

We saw a Giraffe every day. Named it Gerald. I was there in May. I can't remember what Savannah I was on.

I have stayed at AKL with a savannah view twice and ALWAYS seen animals. Sometimes at mid-day you don't since they are cleaning, but early mornings are great!

We usually had 2-3 giraffes within view each time we looked out our balcony. From looking at our pictures, you'd think they were the only animals we saw, they just so viewable. We were on the 5th floor and LOVED the view as we were seeing the giraffes over the trees, rather than looing at their legs through the trees.

That was the one thing that was a constant. I don't think we even had a savannah view. It seemed to be the back side of the hotel. It was still great. We also saw quite a few other animals.

We saw them every day, mostly in the afternoon during our park break. The other animals, Ankole Cattle ect. were also fun to see each morning at feeding time.

We saw giraffe everyday from our balcony on the Arusha Savannah.

We saw giraffes all the time at AKL. When it was feeding time they would follow the jeeps around to get their food. The keepers would put the branches high up in the trees and the giraffes would follow them.

The giraffe that we saw from our balcony were sooooo close that you could hear them chewing the leaves on the trees!!!!!!! It was great!!!!!!!!!

We saw Giraffes while we were at AKL. I loved seeing MANY different kinds of animals during our stay, so much, that we are going back in a few weeks!

On both of our stays at AKL we saw giraffes every morning, and loved having breakfast on the balcony. AKL will always be our first choice when the budget allows.

Yes, yes, yes. We saw them every afternoon from our balcony overlooking Arusha Rock.

Yes, we saw giraffes, BUT it was usually when they were luring them from one section to the next. The giraffes were following the trucks. I never woke up in the morning and saw them munching on leaves outside my balcony.

Many of the folks who said they never saw animals probably were spending a lot of time at the parks, or not getting up very early, or were having dinner when the animals are out. They are very active early in the morning, before 8 a.m. Around noon, they are looking for shade, just like you! Early evening, again they are at their most active. I've stayed at AKL three times, always saw plenty of animals. In May, we went there for dinner at Boma, and walked out to Arusha Rock. We saw a Zebra chasing a guinea fowl around a tree; two second later, the guinea fowl was chasing the Zebra! It was too funny. If you are swimming in the pool, you may see giraffes. From the moment you walk through that awesome lobby to the back and look at the viewing areas, you'll see animals. Enjoy making your plans for a wonderful safari.

We had three giraffes outside our window every morning and every night. All night. We were overlooking some water and trees, I think that helped.

I've never stayed at AKL but we went there for dinner and visited friends who were staying there. We certainly saw giraffe from their balcony. I don't know what section their room was in.

I can't imagine anyone staying there all week and not seeing animals.

We have stayed at AKL twice and have always seen giraffes. Normally, they would be outside our balcony in the morning and early evening. We also saw several other animals. I can't imagine staying at AKL and not seeing any animals. I think it would be more of a challenge NOT to see animals rather than see them.

Another resounding YES we saw giraffes!! We had very good views on the two trips we have stayed at AKL - both were on the Arusha Savanna. We were on the Zebra Trail both times, but we also found a great viewing for the giraffe was the Sunset Savanna. Personally, the Sunset is not my favorite savanna because of the fencing, however it has the best giraffe viewing I think!

We were at AKL last April, stayed on the 5th floor Arusha Savanna. We saw 2 giraffes every day. Always in the evening and morning and sometimes in the afternoon too. We spent a lot of time out on the balcony, it was the first thing the kids did when we came back to the room and I would often sit out there and read a book. The was the part I liked the most about the AKL.
