Did you prebook AC seats?

Anyone know why seat selection would not be available on a flight?

I booked an AC flight Fort Lauderdale to Toronto on the first day the flight opened up for sale, and even then all the seats were showing assigned.

It may depend on your booking fare. If u booked the Tango fare bucket, you have to pay extra to select seats. If you didn't pay to select seats, it won't let you do so until 24hrs prior.

If this is not the case, view your itinerary online, and there should be an option to select & pay for seats. If that doesn't work, call or email AC.

Good luck!

We had seats prebooked before we went to Orlando this past easter break. While down there I received an email from Air Canada about a slight change in our flight itinerary. I never thought much of it - it showed up arriving home 10 minutes later than our original time. Our Orlando to Toronto flight was fine, but when we arrived in Toronto the next flight was a mess. They had myself, DH and DD9 all over the plane, and at that point DS6 had been bumped from the flight.

So if you pay to prebook, make sure you check if they make any changes for your flight!

Just came back from Orlando but flying out of Buffalo. With two kids we don't play around with seating and even if flying SW we will pay for Early Bird check in to avoid any issues and to make sure we sit together. This past trip we paid for and picked the seats we wanted with AirTran.

Side note: Had the 'joy' of sitting next to this OCD mother (who also obviously also had a fear of flying). Her family was scattered around the plane and she was freaking out and complaining for the first hour to everyone. Not the most enjoyable flying experience I have ever had.

A bit of luck. I happened to be on the AC web-site checking seats and realized the flight we had booked had disappeared and been rescheduled for an hour later arrival in Orlando. This meant arriving at AKL too late to do much. When I called, I was allowed to re-book to the early morning flight free of charge and arriving at noon and the agent also booked our seats for free. Our return flight however was also changed to a bigger plane and the price dropped nearly $100.00 per person. Unfortunately, that is just tough luck for us but getting the pre-booking on the seats and the earlier time was great. AC is supposed to send out e-mails telling you about the changes. I got nothing so am very glad I looked.the return flight still has a lot of empty seats so I may wait a bit before I decide to pay to pre-book.

We are flying AC from Vancouver to LAX for our trip in November and I didn't pay extra to pick our seats. I checked our reservation and the seats I chose were still assigned for us. I got the cheapest available seat which were "Tango Flex" I believe. DD is 4 and I would want her to be with either DH or I. I have never paid extra to pick my seat on AC before, is this something new? I booked and paid in June 2013.

Tango Flex fare code includes complimentary seat selection in the fare as does the Latitude fare code. The Tango fare code does not include comp seat selection, there is a fee.

We pre-booked our seats months and months ago. We travelled home from Orlando recently, and received the seat assignments on our boarding passes.

As we were LINING UP to board, my husband was called to the podium and assigned a new seat. He had been moved arbitrarily to accommodate a family (not with small children, either). The fact that Air Canada was breaking up our family didn't matter one bit to the gate agent. She told him the flight was full and that he could complain when he landed in Toronto.

If they had asked, it would be another matter. But they didn't.

We have two trips planned south at the moment -- and they're both through Buffalo. Air Canada has done it again.

That's absolutely ridiculous they should reassign anyone seats on a plane after they have them picked out. Unless they are moving you to first class and then to tell someone sorry we have moved you away from your family because someone else wants to be by there family sorry they ones asking to be moved should be SOL. If you don't pick your seats when you buy your tickets with an airline you deserve whatever seat they give you.

We had this same experience with Air Canada when flying to Disneyland out of Toronto & they lost us as a customer because of it - pre-booked seats reassigned with numerous flight & plane changes, no communication about any of the changes, and certainly no apologies let alone compensation. They act like there's not a lower cost airport less than 2 hours away in Buffalo, their arrogance & lack of customer service is appalling.
