Did you need to use WDW Insurance??

I wasn't sure where to post this...but am looking for help on whether or not to purchase Travel Guard..the insurance Disney offers through their packages. It's 119.00 and we just don't know what to do. I would like to know if someone bought it and had to use it? How did it work? Was everything covered with no problems? We just don't know if it's necessary since we are traveling during Hurricane Season..but I've read WDW and airlines are very accomdating if anything were to happen...hmmm....thanks in advance!

we have bought trip insurance from insuremytrip.com I got the link from mousesavers. I think its cheaper than Disney. If we are driving and room only reservations, we never buy trip insurance, but if I have a package and am flying I buy the insurance.

We also get it because it covers you and your family if you become ill on your trip and need to return or if you need medical help such as being airlifted it will cover it.

If you need to cancel because you or a family member becomes ill before the trip and you have to cancel it will cover it also.

Both of our parents aren't in the greatest health, so its nice to know if something comes up we can postpone the trip. There are pre-exsisting conditions so we always buy it right away so they are covered.

on our first trip to wdw both our kids came down with raging ear infections. we were able to use the in-room doctors service (doctor comes to your room at the resort, does the entire exam-if meds are needed calls them in and has them delivered to the resort). travel guard paid the entire amount minus the deductable-bill was around $500.00. i would have used the local urgent care but when i called travel guards customer service number to see if i needed to use a particular preferred location they told me about the in-room service and suggested that it would be less time/less of a wait, not to worry about the increased cost

my private medical insurance is a major p.i.t.a. when we travel (have to use their providers even if miles and miles away, make sure anyone that touches you is in that network, needs to fall under certain guidelines for necessity to be treated prior to returning home... ). travel insurance makes it much easier in the event of an illness.

I would get the insurance because weather is just the least of your worries. We've encountered both illness (before and during a trip) and even had my FIL pass away while we were at Disney (he was in perfect health BTW) and we had to rush home to help MIL handle everything. The one time you don't opt for the insurance is the time you will need it. I figure it is a few dollars and gives me great peace of mind.

We bought trip insurance and we are so glad we did. 2 days prior to our vacation, DD4 had a fever,sore throat and tummy cramps. I took her to the Dr. and they did a strep test & she was negative but the doc said probably in 5 days she might feel better. Well the next day she was one sick little girl - just miserable so we ended up cancelling. Called the doc and she wrote a note for us for the insurance co. The kids were heart broken but we made the right decision - DD4 did feel better 5 days later (our vacation would have been almost half over) and then DD2 came down w/it.

We rescheduled for Sept/Oct so the kids are looking forward to that. We're hoping everyone stays healthy for this one. And yes - we got trip insurance again! I'll never plan a trip w/o it - its so worth it. Good luck!

thanks so much for the info! Does anyone know if the insurance will cover airfare even if you didn't buy it through Disney? We got a great deal on airfare seperatley, and booked a package through Disney. So if you get sick they will cover new airline tickets too whenever know matter what the cost??

I've never bought it, but we don't travel like most people either. We go every few weeks (except during the summer), but it is always last minute. Seriously, last minute. I call CRO and ask, "Do you have any rooms available for tonight?" So, obviously, we are healthy and there is no hurricane bearing down on us or anything like that.

I am considering planning a trip for the fall. It is so funny because we've been more times than I can remember, but I haven't a clue as to how to plan a trip.

We got travel insurance thru Disney. When we signed up for the insurance I was told the insurance covers airfare even if it wasn't booked via Disney. And if all the adults in the party get the insurance then all the children are also covered at no cost. I don't know if this is how it will be going forward or just a special deal but either way it worked out to be the best deal for us.

Dh didn't want too, but I insisted for our trip in Sept - being hurricane season as well....plus my kids seem to always get sick when we are about to go on vacation -how heartbreaking to have to cancel, but worth it for their health.

My question, we are staying 2 nights outside of Disney at another hotel....I'm thinking our trip insurance only covers our actual Disney duration. Does anyone know how I can get our other 2 nights covered? We haven't booked a hotel yet...maybe I can get it through them?
