Did you like your WOC meal?

I wanted to book my family for AG since the price is about the same for a normal meal there, but they were fully booked. I ended up buying the picnic lunches and enjoyed them a lot. We tried the American and Asian varieties. I still want to try the Mediterranean one

Okay it's confirmed... you guys have now made my decision even harder :rotfl:. But I love hearing all the opinions. Keep 'em coming! And thanks for the links to trip reports and pictures.

ariel's grotto... chicken, tri tip annd kids tri tip

yuck... i can't believe people raved. we admit we can be food snobs, but even the dessert was just - eh.

i will say my child had a nice meal. simple, but protien and fruits and veg. so i can't complaint there

Plus I think the place could be so othat be beautiful? Come on imagineers I am not supposed to have to come up with this stuff! You are!

The seating for WOC however was perfect. Raised, front row, against the rail in front of the VIP section. And our section wasn't crowded at all.

Plus I think the place could be so much more wtih stained glass to look like you are going underwater, etc. WOulnd't that be beautiful? Come on imagineers I iam not supposed to have to come up with this stuff! You are!

Well, it wasn't always 'Ariel's Grotto'. It used to be a Wolfgang Puck restaurant, but wasn't doing as well as they liked, so they did a quick switch to an Ariel character meal. That would probably explain why it isn't full-on 'Under the Sea' Little Mermaid themed.

Well I haven't done them for WoC but I have eaten at both WCT & AG. Our family loves AG! The food has always been amazing!! We didn't like WCT as much but that was a different menu so I bet it's better now. :) At AG I've had the chicken, the tri-tip, the agnolotti and I've had tastes of the ciopinno (DBF loves it and gets it every time) as well and it's all very good. We enjoy the 3-tier beginners, the salad is really good and so is the bread and we really like the desserts. Yum yum!! :) And yes, drinks are included with the AG meals.

I don't think it has to be totally uner the sea themed, but it's hot dirty glass that's really bright and sunny... stained glass with any pattern would have been beautiful.

Yeah, just not impressed. Diirty, scratched, sticky tables, no table cloth. And the servers kept making a big deal baout how we should just limit ourselves to one hour and get out because we couldn't watch the show there. Hello our reservations were at 5pm... we knew we coulnd't watch the show there and weren't planning to wait, in fact were planning to do something else in the park after dinner.. but because they kept bringing it up it was like they were trying to kick us ouot and the place was empty!

I wish Napa Rose or StoryTellers was on the WOC Dining package choices!

Quick question - we are from Australia and as we were lining up for WCT a lady was going on about how the restaurant 'better have white table clothes' we thought this was strange but you have mentioned table clothes in your post. Does restaurants having table clothes mean something over in America? :confused3

Usually that it's a nicer place to eat.

And if it is very very nice they will have a person whose job it is to scrap the crumbs off your white table cloth between courses. :lmao:

We peeked in to the inside of Ariels and it looked nice, but also looked like the tables were crowded together. Outside was beautiful. Our table was clean, we weren't crowded, and at 5pm it was nice in the shade with a view of PP. If we ate there again, I'd request outside.

Wow! We've eaten there numerous times and we never had dirty, scratched or sticky tables and we never had any servers rushing us thru our meal. The standard time allowed for all meals like this is 90 minutes. The only time we've ever felt rushed was when we ate at Goofy's Kitchen and we left there after about an hour because we didn't like it at all. I know how that feels and I'm really sorry that you felt that way at AG.
I agree with the glass, it would look really neat if it was stained glass but I wouldn't base my decision to return on the glass. :)

ya, people say tablecloths at restaurants show a higher level of "class" which I really don't agree with. I've eaten at really good places with no tablecloths and I've eaten at really bad places with them.

LOL We've eaten at a place that had someone that scraped the tablecloth for us...that was so weird. LOL But OMG it was good food! :)

AG outside the tables are more spread out but it's OK inside too. I've never felt crowded while eating there. :)

I know a lot of people are going for the meals because of priority viewing, but since I have to use a scooter, would the picnic fast pass be pretty much the same kind of seating? We are planning on the picnic option, but this thread really has me leaning toward the AG meal .

I tell you..I feel pretty silly when the guy comes by with the little broom and cleans my crumbs...I guess I'm from peasant stock and not meant to be a member of the gentry:snooty:

I am taking a bunch of Girl Scouts and we are ordering our meals early and on-line. I know the price is $14.99 but is there TAX or any other charges?

:confused3 Help . . . thank you

ROFL!!!! That's how DBF and I felt! LOL He looked at me all surprised and I'm sure I had the same expression on my face too. It was pretty funny but the guy doing it didn't seem to be too fazed by our surprise. LOL The table next to us tho.....those people seemed offended by our not realizing the crumbs were going to be scraped, of course I also saw the guy tip the server at least 1 $100 bill and he gave the kitchen staff the rest of their bottle of champagne (which was a $500 or more bottle) to enjoy after the restaurant closed....man I should go there for a job....LOL

I always need my crumbs cleared, otherwise it hurts when I put my elbows on the table ;)

KristenandRick- I -heard- that handicapped seating is not in a special section, supposedly they built the whole thing to fit wheelchairs and scooters so you can stay in whatever section your pass/meal deal is for and they just put you in a certain spot within that section. Hopefully someone who has done this can confirm that.

Thank you for the wonderful reviews of Wine Country Trattoria! We have reservations there in less than two weeks, then World of Color, our final night in DL. It will be an unbelievable way to end our vacation and first trip to Disneyland!

There's a guy with a broom?! Shows you how fancy I am not!

Well, my experience with this is limited. We went to an expensive place called The Chop House in Napa for my birthday. One guy came over and started to scrap the crumbs off the table with a little metal thing. I had never seen that before either. The food was very yummy and I still wish I could go back just for the hash browns! :rotfl: Ok, completely off topic because Ariels doesn't scrape your crumbs. ;)

I'm so glad you mentioned this and has helped me to make my final decision.

Drum roll please...:rockband: I will be in the area for work and can only go to the parks after work. I've been to WCT and as much as I'd like to try AG, I've got too many other things I need to squeeze into the evening. Getting a FP will be out for me so I'll have to go for the picnic and make it there in time to pick that up.

Thanks

I've heard of that place. Why have I heard of that place? Maybe I watch too much Food Network.

Now THAT was off topic! :rotfl:
