Did you like - or even LOVE - Spirit of Aloha?

It seems like the vast majority of reviews are mediocre at best. Are there folks out there who think it's great? We have (category 1) reservations for next month (me, my friend, my 7 year old DD, her 6 year old DD, and her 4 year old DS). It was expensive - over $200, and the negative reviews make me a little nervous. I'd love to hear some positive ones if they're out there.

As an aside, Hoop Dee Doo is closed for work or something that night and it's not a Backyard Barbeque night.

Also, would it be redundant to do Spirit of Aloha and 'Ohana in the same trip? We have dinner reservations for 'Ohana a couple of days after.

I hate to say it, but I'd seriously consider cancelling Aloha. We saw the previous version of it about 6 years ago. It wasn't a bad way to spend an evening, but it wasn't worth the money we paid for it. We had a 3 YO DD at the time. We now have a 4 YO DD and an 8 YO DD, and wouldn't consider it.

From my understanding, when I booked HDDR a few weeks ago for our upcoming October trip, HDDR is only closed some nights of the week while they work on that floor in there. It should be open some other nights each week, if your schedule is flexible. We vastly prefer HDDR to Aloha.

On the other hand, I don't feel that doing the Aloha show, or HDDR for that matter, would be redundant with going to Ohana in the same trip. Ohana is worth doing, no matter what else you do.

I just called and couldn't believe it, but a Wishes cruise was available on that night. I booked it with the intention of cancelling Spirit of Aloha. What do you think?

GO WITH THE CRUISE !!!

All things being equal, especially if the $$$ is equal, I'd go with that cruise 10 times out of 10 over Aloha.

I'd cancel the luau. We went last yr and were very disappointed. The native dancing was good but that was it. My DS was 8 and only liked the fire dancer. He sat quietly but wasn't enthusiastic at all. A family at the next table with younger kids left before it was over because they were restless. It is a shame the HDDR isn't available because they would have loved that. My kids wanted to go back again in the same trip.

We went last March and were disappointed. But it was really COLD!!! and the management should have canceled the show. Even so the fire dancer at AK the LK is MUCH BETTER!!! For the quality of show, food, and service...CANCEL! I was in Catagory 1 and we sat behind a post, saw the show in two halves.

I like the Poly Luau. I don't love it and I only go every few years, but it is okay. The fire stuff is cool, as is the dancing...it is the whole dopey story that I can't stand.

I'd recommend Hoop-Dee-Doo about 100x before the Poly Luau.

The luau is good. But not $200 good/great.
Agree the story is . The traditional dancing is great. I really liked the food. DH thought it was okay. The service was eh.

I think the cruise is a much better choice! We are very laid back people and just "go with the flow" at Disney. Yet when we did the Aloha dinner show, I was ready to pull my hair out! The dinner and show seemed to go on foreverrrr-ugh! After the first 30 minutes, all I kept thinking about was what else we could be doing! My DH felt just the same way. Enjoy the cruise!

I went last week and the food was ok and I can not say about the show it is outside and it was so hot we left. We could not take the heat so we only saw the preshow it was ok, but if it is going to be hot and you do not think you want to be so hot during a meal I would change my mind too.

I'm sure they must realize people aren't happy with it. I wonder why they don't change it.

I realized that we could actually do Spirit of Aloha and the Wishes cruise since our Spirit of Aloha reservation is for 5:15, but at this point, I think I'm happy to cancel it. I don't want to take the chance on feeling like we wasted over $200.
