dtr 10 wants to do this, i am not doing it, can she do it alone, and of course they will let me go with her right?

Assuming you are refering to parasailing at castaway. We went on the August 10-13 Wonder. My ds9 went with my husband and was terrified. They dunked them in the water (out of humor) he freaked out--whether he thought there were sharks or because he had a fear of drowning. Needless to say he was terrified the entire time and did not enjoy parasailing one bit. IF you decide to parasail and this is a fear, tell the guides to NOT dunk you in the water---out of courtesy I wish they would have asked before they took it upon themselves to make that decision. As far as your child parasailing on her own, I would say no, they will expect an adult to double up with her.

My kids both did it. They went tandem with my husband and I. It was glorious and we all loved it. Would do it again in a heartbeat.... There were some younger kids that went, as well, and they enjoyed it, too. It was peaceful and secure feeling. The take off and landing was never scary. The toe-dip was warm and fun, as well.

The operators will not let your young one go alone. I think that YOU should go with her!!! I believe that the child's reaction may depend on personality. If your daughter is generally very cautious, this might not be the thing for her. If she is adventurous and you can bring yourself to go, it is an amazing experience. GO FOR IT!!!! (We greatly preferred the parasail over the salt water-in-the-eyes, bouncy, banana boat that felt like you were going to fall off any minute!)

We went parasailing at CC and loved it. They took every precaution for safety. I am a "chicken" when it comes to water and heights, but I read the parasailing thread on the DIS boards before I left and it convinced me to try it. I am so glad I did. They even took us close to the Flying Dutchman. We gave them a nice tip for their great service.

The banana boats were the exact opposite...they seemed to disregard safety, we were falling off and they weren't stopping and seemed to think it was funny. This was the first time I haven't tipped for a CC excursion!

I don't know what the official age requirement is for going alone, I'm thinking it might vary a bit depending on the weather.
My 14 yr. old DD and I had both planned to go solo, but it started getting a bit breezy, so they said she would have to go tandem with me or not go at all.

I'm guessing they would require a 10 year old to have an adult with them on the boat, except I'm pretty sure they don't allow anyone on the boat who has not paid to parasail. :confused3

Are you sure you don't want to go up with her? It really is a lot of fun! :Pinkbounc

I read on the excursion list that the minimum weight is 90lbs. Does anyone know if that is the minimum weight for each person or together for tandem parasailing? My DD9 would love to do this but she only weighs 48lbs (she is very small for her age). Obviously I would go tandem with her due to her age, but don't know if together we need to be at least 90lbs or each person has to be 90lbs.

Thanks, Kim

My ds who turned 9 on 5/13 and I went parasailing at CC on our 5/13/06 cruise. He's only 63 pounds, so we went tandem. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the air and we both can't wait to do it again on our next cruise. Out of 14 of us on the excursion boat, the operators were going to dunk one teenage girl and she shook her head no and they didn't dunk her. They did dunk a dad/son going tandem, but it was only their feet, up to their ankles. Had I known that a dunk didn't involve a waist deep plunge, I'd have asked to be dunked too. They didn't dunk anyone else.

Thanks Hanover for the info. I think we are going to do this. DD will not mind being dunked, she is pretty adventurous.

Kim

You are very welcome. Have fun!

Don't forget to take a waterproof camera up there with you. We got some great pictures of each other, CC and the Magic. We also had a lady on the excursion boat take a few pictures of us taking off, a few up in the air, and a few of us landing back on the boat. We returned the favor to her with her camera when she went up in the air.

The child does not need to weigh 90 lbs. My daugher weighs 75 and a friend of hers weighted less than that and both of them went with their respective parents and loved it. I'm afraid of heights, but it was a wonderful experience to have done with my daughter. My son who is 16 was allowed to go by himself. He was "dipped" and enjoyed the experience.

Opps - This is Scuba Mom (I forgot to change log ins)

We love to "prank" our kids. They have laughingly told us that the show HighJinks is way to tame for our family. I have to slip the drivers some cash to "dunk" my 10 year old. I want them to show a look of panic on their faces right before he goes in...He can take it. Last week at camp I had him moved in his sleep and he woke up alone in the back of the UHaul trailer(we did leave the door open for him).

It's not my cup of tea, but my DH and our good friend took our 8yo twins up this year and all had a great time (they liked the dunk, too). :thumbsup2
