Did you have more than 1 wedding dress - that you wore the same day?

Just chiming in to say that I too had a "traveling outfit". That's just what brides did back in the day. I had a nice little suity dress and spectator heels to wear with it.

Me too - "back in the day" when I married my first husband.. Every time I think of that suit, I think of the pink suit that Shelby had on in "Steel Magnolias" when she was leaving the house on her wedding day.. Mine was very similar - except it was royal blue.. :rotfl:

I got married 10 years ago this June. I only had one wedding dress that was worn to the wedding and reception. I did have a "traveling dress"...sleeveless satin blue slightly above the knee dress...that I changed into after the reception when we were leaving for our hotel (overnight stay before we left for our honeymoon the next morning).

Well, just as a fun point of interest... most asian brides do have more than one wedding dress. The "western" one (white, poufy, etc), and then often the "traditional" one (which, interestingly enough, is never white that I know of).

Usually the white one is for the church wedding, and the traditional one is for the reception or any traditional ceremonies.

I only had one (white and poufy) for my actual wedding day, but because our families live far apart, and not everyone could travel, we had a second reception back here, and I had more of a "traveling dress" type for that. It was pink.

I had one dress, but I was in the "big bustle butt" generation married 18 years ago.

My cousin had 2 dresses. She was pregnant and too big/uncomfortable in her wedding dress by the wedding date. She suffered through for the wedding and then changed into a sundress. (Very informal reception anyway.)

My Indian friend had 3 bridal sarees (absolutely GORGEOUS, every single one!) One was for the reception the night before, one for the wedding (at 7 the next morning ) and then one for the reception in her husband's city a week later.

I knew at least one IRL that did. Her "real" gown was around 5K, but for whatever reason she felt she needed a different one for more comfortable dancing.

Melania Trump had two. Much much much more than 5K, LOL.

I loved having my pretty silk gown (that was a lot of money to me!) on so much I nearly slept in it. I did NOT want to take that thing off! And I'd lost so much water weight through the course of the day (outdoor wedding and reception on a 100 degree day) that I actually took off the corset (that had been done up very tightly earlier) under the gown, and was comfy for longer...we partied with family in the suite after we left the reception (we were the last to leave) and after grabbing our wedding night bags drove nearly an hour to our wedding night hotel (leaving my suite for my aunt and DH's pre-wedding room empty), and I kept that dress on in the front seat of my Golf! I was a big marshmallow poof, LOL.

So I couldn't have imagined having a second that day, but I wouldn't mind having several more weddings just to have MORE pretty and fancy gowns!

I got married a whopping 4 years ago. :lmao: I had one dress. I loved that dress, it wasn't my first choice of style, but it worked on me. :cutie: I actually wore it twice, once for our WDW wedding, and again for our "at home reception" ( <--which was NOT my idea!! The people who really mattered were AT our wedding.) I would have happily just worn a regular pretty dress.

I actually wish I did a "trash the dress" thing, I'm envious of the brides that did! That poor dress was a hot mess by the time I was done with it, and for some reason it's still in my closet. :confused3

I had to google spectator heels, and I thought I was a fashionista! Very cute style!:thumbsup2

We are getting married on Saturday and I will have one dress...a very simple white sundress I bought at the Dress Barn. LOL I love it and it's exactly what I was looking for. We are having our wedding at the church, however it's very casual and simple. The guys are wearing khaki's with blue button down shirts & ties, my MOH is wearing a cute black dress with pink print that she bought at Dress Barn.

I had never heard of it -- other than changing into a "going away" outfit we called it -- basically after the party was over & you were leaving.

However, my daughter has already told me she fully intends on having 3 dresses -- OK then....I think my daughter needs to win the lottery -- she also had intended to get married at Disney but has seen some other locations now. The girl is 16...YIKES.

I was totally baffled about the 3 dresses when she brought it up -- I asked her WHY would you do that? and her answer was to have one that was easier to dance in.

Edited: I think my "going away" outfit is the same concept as others are calling "traveling outfit" and I was also part of the "big bustle behind" generation -- we will be married 19 years next month. I loved my dress though and since it was 1K -- I was going to get every second use out if I could. I couldn't imagine buying a second wedding dress -- I had tried on so many wedding dresses to find just 1 as what I wanted wasn't really the style then (seemed everything was long sleeved & around the neck at the time -- I wanted short sleeve and nothing on my neck and a gazillion ruffles).

Going away outfits are, sadly, going away.

Shows my age....I remember shopping long and hard to find a nice going away dress that was white and yet light for summer for my first wedding...I even had a corsage too!!

My "Shelby" suit was mint green:thumbsup2 I only had one wedding gown, and like someone already posted, I didn't want to take it off because it was so pretty.

A wedding gown is only worn on 1 day. I can't imagine shortening its wear by having 2 dresses. I wanted to wear my gown until the very last minutes of my reception.

You'd just have to know this girl... she thought she was Miss Thing... Miss Hottie in all THREE of those dresses. Her dresses were NOT made for her figure.

:goodvibes

Aren't you SUPPOSED to feel that way in your wedding dress?

I didn't want to even have a wedding 20 years ago. It just wasn't my thing then but being the only daughter my mom was so disappointed. Our compromise was an evening wedding at Christmas and I just wore a suit. So, no, I didn't have 3 dresses.

Being the practical person I am I wanted the money my parents would spend on a wedding for a down payment on a house and I've never regretted that decision.

Just got married and I had only 1 dress.

Honestly, I see no point in having 2..

I am planning my wedding now and that was popped up by my cousin if I would do that and I replied nope, lol. The way I see it, I want to see my dress and feel that way that some brides do when they find the perfect dress (Corny I know but I like that) I only get to wear the gown for one day, why get another one that probably won't be that special as my ceremony gown?

I didn't, my dress was from Macy's! :rotfl:

DH cousin had THREE dresses. :snooty: (She looked fat in each and every one of them... :rolleyes1)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! I needed that laugh right now!

Most of my brides who choose to have a different dress for the reception choose a reception dress that they can wear again and again.

I've worn my reception dress for several other occasions, after I made it look less "bridey" by sewing additional colored crystals to the dress. And I'll wear it again, just as soon as I lose enough weight to fit back into it! :goodvibes

The combined cost of my wedding and reception dresses, including alterations, was under $500.

I chose not to have a going away outfit, as we wouldn't leave for our honeymoon until the next week. I would have found a pale lemon yellow fitted suit if I had had one though, with a hat. I always thought they looked so classy!

I had 2 dresses. My wedding gown had a loooong cathedral train on it and when it was bustled weighed about 20 lbs. I love to dance and wanted to be comfortable so when we were getting my maid of honors dress I looked on the clearance rack. I found an adorable tea length white dress. I wore it for the 2 hours between the ceremony and reception and then again for the 2nd half of the reception. I wouldnt have spent a ton of money on a 2nd dress, but to get one at a bargain? well I couldnt pass it up ;)
