Reading the journals can be so overwhelming sometimes. :) I really want to participate in the 2007 1/2 marathon. It's my new goal. I'm at 180 lbs, need to lose quite a bit. Anyone ever go from extreme to the other? Please share your story of inspiration with me. :)

I am almost the same as you! I started at 180 and have lost 10 pounds so far. I want to lose 30-35 more. Anyway, my DH just signed us up for the Indianapolis Mini which is in May. So, if I can do that in 7 months, you can do Disney in 2007! This week we started running a tiny bit. Today I ran a minute, walked 2. It was supposed to be for 30 minutes, but I only got 20 because of my baby. You can do it!

That sounds like a good plan. I think I'll try that at the gym tomorrow! Good luck with the Mini. Let me know how it goes. I think having this goal is really gonna help. I also just quit smoking & Lord knows I wouldn't even think of it if I was still a smoker. It's really given me something new to look forward too. :)

Congratulations on quitting smoking!

Just to clarify, I am not and have never been a runner. I found this board in Dec 2004 and found the 2005 WISH team preparing themselves to participate in this year's half/full marathon. They looked like they were having so much fun...I never knew average people like me could be in a race like that!

When I started in Jan, I weighed 177 lbs. I was walking 1.75 miles at 2.5 miles per hour about 2 or 3 days weekly. Tonight I did 3.4 miles in 51 minutes with a combination of walking and jogging. On Sat, I'll do my second long run of 6 miles. As of this morning, I now weigh 165. I needed the goal of the 2006 half marathon to give me a reason to exercise...I wasn't doing it just for exercise sake.

If I can do this, anyone can. You've got plenty of time to prepare yourself...actual marathon training just started for the 2006 WISH team this week. Just start slow. I worked up from my initial pace and mileage to walking 3 miles 4 days a week before starting the 'official' training. Many of us are using a book called Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingham. He also has a website http://www.waddleon.com.

And come join us on the marathon thread. I'm planning to be there again in 2007 and we have several others that will be there too. You'll find a lot of support and great training tips!
