Did you gals see this ebay auction?....

Just a quick addition to what Caroline said: weddings on Disney property must go through DFTW. The FairyTale wedding people DO read this site as it is a public forum. I just don't want anyone to get stuck in a bad situation. If you are looking for other alternatives in the Orlando area that are not as expensive, we can help you come up with other ideas, or share how we saved a ton of money. Just wanted to give all of the newer people a heads up!

I wouldn't be able to bring myself to trust something like that. I wouldn't want my wedding day ruined by a CM coming up and telling us we can't be there. Too risky for me!

I just posted this because I remember reading a thread a while back that it was okay to do a wedding in YOUR hotel room, but certainly NOT okay to try and have one in a theme park or in an area open to the public. Did I do a no-no posting this? ;)

Caroline, you are fine girl no big. I just want people to know what the official position of the Disney company is.

No, of course not! You can post whatever you want! :) No worries! :sunny: It was interesting to look at, that suite looked awesome!

I just don't want to start something. It would be just my luck that my WP would stumble across this thread and say "and just what the heck do you think you're doing!?" :lmao:

Actually, whoever is posting that auction would make a lot more off of it going to the rent/trade board here on the DIS and eliminating the catered meal. I rented my DVC points a month ago and did better. Its a great deal even if someone had no intention of using it for a wedding. The OKW grand villas are amazing!

That would not be good :rotfl: (Being caught by planner). Yeah, the OKW resort is awesome! I haven't stayed there, but we have checked it out.

We're staying at OKW for our 2 week honeymoon in a 1 bedroom villa. Its the cheapest use of our points and they have biggest rooms. We even had enough points left over to put my parents in a one bedroom and a studio for my grandpa and aunt. It is really nice throughout OKW, the only thing I wish they would do is update the furnishings a little bit.

That is very interesting...thanks for posting! I do wonder what Disney would have to say about that, though!

Some of figures seemed a bit misleading too...but I have to admit I didn't read it all very closely. But, we are staying in a 2 bedroom villa at the Boardwalk (through regular reservations as we are not DVC members  ) in October and it is running us about $5k for 6 nights...NOT $9k!! And the Beach Club was the same amount! Maybe she was including the Intimate wedding costs with that? But even then it would only be about $7.5k or $8...

I have to admit, though, that villa looks really cool!!

I finally figured this auction out using my DVC point calculator.

The dates this person have posted = 180 points the most it would cost to rent would be $12 per point so that would be $2160,

Okay now add the meal, no way that's over $600

The ferry cruise is FREE to DVC members because its how we get from OKW to Downtown Disney

All the wedding stuff she's added can't be worth over $100

After the calculations the starting bid of $3,775 is just a tad over its actual value, but the extra money would compensate the seller for all the time spent putting the package together.

After taking a closer look at this auction I have changed my mind and I would say that the starting bid would be the most anyone should pay for it. However, I can see where someone would bid on it to eliminate the hassle of planning themselves.

This auction pops up every few months, the only thing that changes seem to be the dates and possibly the picture arraignment. Don't know if they ever get any takers. IMO it's not worth it.

I don't keep up with ebay enough, but I need to start b/c lately I've found some great Disney Home Decor items! :thumbsup2 However, for myself I wouldn't be interested in this...it just doesn't have the "magic" KWIM? However, for others it might be something that is just their cup of tea, all depends on the person I guess. Still VERY interesting though.

Sorry, but I wouldn't want my reception catered by Boston Market.

Is that where the food is from?! I must not have read closely enough :lmao:

Yep Boston Market Catering.....I wonder if they can lose DVC privledges for putting that online....

I don't think so...or at least I hope not. DVC members are allowed to rent their points out as outlined in our contracts. Since DVC and DFTW are seperate entities and there isn't anything in our contracts in all those pages that says we can't have weddings in our villas or promote a service provided by Disney so I don't think there is a thing they can do about it. However, I'm sure it wouldn't make DFTW very happy and the DVC sector could be notified to give a "friendly" phone call to the member. ;)
