Did you find Facebook.com to be worthwhile?

I signed up today but after reviewing the grad years of my high school, and the undergrad degree in university, I only found 3 or so people I know. Admittedly, I am using my married name so no one will contact me. But did you find you renewed old acquaintances?

I have caught up with lots of old friends and coworkers. Several of the organizations I am involved in have pages with discussion boards, ways to send out information, get in touch with people, etc. It's been very worthwhile as a way to network and communicate events and activities.

I had a facebook throughout college. It was a good way to keep in contact with high school friends, find out where parties were, etc but I found myself wasting time on facebook. I would look through all my friend's pictures and before I knew it, I wasted hours online.

I can understand having a facebook to "stay in contact with old friends" but I've found that the majority of the time, if these people were actually my friends they would have my phone number, email address, or just know how to get in contact with me.

I got rid of my facebook in college, much to the dismay of my friends at the time, and I've found it was probably for the best.. now all my online time goes to the DIS!

I've been able to keep in touch with lots of people (that I would have otherwise not) with facebook. It's a nice none intrusive way to see whats going on in everyones lives and talk here and there.

I use my maiden and married names on facebook so I would be able to find more people I know from pre-married days.

I have been out of high school for almost 20 years. I joined facebook 2 months ago and since then i have found people that i haven't seen or talked to in 20 years or so. I even found someone that left my school in first grade. I find it to be so much fun. I use my maiden name and people have actually found me. I check my friends friends and have found people that way. I love it!

I have a love/hate relationship with facebook, but the "love" part is for the above reasons.

People you don't think of as friends while you're in school become, later on, really interesting people. I've reconnected with someone through FB who has many of the same interests as I do, and it's really neat! My last school memory of her was teaching me to draw faces in 8th grade, and now we can talk on this whole different level.

It's very much like at my 20 year reunion..bunches of us ended up reconnecting with those people we went to elementary school with...I kept seeing a group of "that" elementary school people talking, and over there was another elementary group, etc. It was kinda neat.

I'm easy to find as neither hubby nor I changed our names when we married.

That said, the "hate" part is when people I have NO interest in talking to contact me. Sounds awful of me, and it sort of is, but I don't want to talk to *everyone*.

I could have written the exact same thing. I originally joined because I'm on the planning committe for the 20th reunion, and I wanted to be able to access the group page we created. I didn't really do anything on it until my DH's sister and cousins convinced me on Thanksgiving I should use it to keep in touch with them. Now I'm hooked! In one month, I have found 55 friends, mostly high school friends and sorority sisters whom I haven't seen in years. It has been a great way to reconnect!

I like it. A cousin of mine asked me to join, and since then I have got in contact with some old friends, and family members who are on it. It's a nice way to touch base, and I now correspond quite a bit with one of my cousins (hoping more get on it).

It's also a way for me to talk to my daughter when I'm at work, or when she's visiting her dad in San Diego.

I'm just in it for the Flair - not to reconnect with anyone! I rarely even bother to check it anymore.

:) Michele

OMG, I loooooooooooooooove facebook. I have found about 100 people on there I haven't seen since HS and college (HS was 15+ years ago).

Just keep looking - they are out there! Oh, and you should write your name FIRST MAIDEN LAST so it's easier for all to find you.

At first I didn't think it was worth it, but I reconnected with some cousins that I haven't spoken to in years, so to me that is the best part. The rest of the stuff on there like throwing snowballs, etc is annoying.

That's how I am listed, too.

I don't do any of the snowballs, plants, etc - I just ignore all those requests. No offense to those that send them, just not what I'm interested in bothering with.

I absolutely adore Facebook! I have found TONS and TONS of people I graduated with and knew. I'm also friends with all of the kids at my DS'S school which also has a group. It's a great way to keep up with things and athletics etc.

i LOVE facebook! i joined awhile ago, back when you had to wait until your college was listed to join. I use it to keep up with family and friends. Like others mentioned, most of the applications i never accept, but i love facebook

I hate to say it . . .BUT . . .I'm addicted to facebook! I've met up with people I went to high school with and we chat, people I used to work with . . .I was amazed at so many people that I knew have a facebook. Mainly though, I'm addicted to Pathwords . . .I've spent countless hours playing that . . .since I've been on facebook, I cannot recall the last time I played the SIMS . . .:scared1:

I love Facebook. I never really had an interest in it until my best girlfriend I have had since I was five told me about all of these people from our grade school that were on there, so I checked it out. WOW! I couldn't believe how many people were on there! Then I started getting contacted by high school friends, family & co-workers, and I quickly became addicted. I have to say I have been using it everyday, and it's fantastic to be back in touch with people I haven't seen in 20 years & I thought I'd never see again. I think it's MUCH better than myspace, which seems full of kids & TONS of spam & viruses. I know that Facebook probably has it's issues too, but I never had a problem.

If anyone wants to be friends with a complete Disney FANATIC, feel free to contact me, Deanna Cooney. I have a picture of me with my bulldog wearing a Giants jersey as we watched the Super Bowl. I always love making new friends, especially friends who have a Disney passion like me!

I love Facebook. This has been the best way for me to keep in touch with friends who have moved away. Also, I have found it to be a useful tool. Since I have Asperger's, I have a hard time calling people and knowing when to call people, etc. Same thing with AIM. Facebook is an easy way to keep in touch, and know what's going on in my friend's lives. In other words, I think of it as an embarrassment-proof way to talk to people.

I have an account - but am CLUELESS. I see where I can search for people . My SIL is on there with some ridiculous amount of friends (like 200) and I know some of those people.....what I don't get is I don't really care to talk to those people I just wanna know what they are up to. BUt I don't see that FB is like MS in that since - or am I compleltely wrong?
On MS I found an old friend (he was in our wedding eons ago) & I saw how he's gone off the deep-end (LOL - WAY liberal compared to when we knew him - we'd probably not be his friend now)

ANYWAY - am I missing something with FB? cause all I've seen is some tiny pics of my SIL's friends & not a darn thing about them.:confused3

Count me in as a lover :) I'm 30 so probably too old to some :teeth: but I enjoy it very much. I've caught up with friends from grade school, middle school, and high school, college, and that is in addition to my current friends. I'm addicted to Parking Wars right now so I spend too much time there! As for the applications it depends - some I accept some I ignore.
