Did you ever want to thank a stranger you briefly met at WDW?

A woman once gave me her napkins and water/ice so that I could use them to clean the ice cream my son had spilled all over the place. Then she got up and went and got more; some for me, some for her.

Of course, I did thank her...and it doesn't sound like that big a deal, I guess, but it was probably the nicest thing anyone did for me at WDW. Not too many people would have done it.

Sometimes it's the little things that are the Magic... :goodvibes

On our first trip in 1977 when there were still ticket books an woman handed my Mom a baggie full of them on the afternoon we arrived. This family was leaving and wanted someone to get use out of them. I remembered my Mom almost crying. She did the same when we left.
On our trip in Oct. with DD 4 and DS 3 we were taking pictures in front of the castle and a honeymooning couple who had just eaten in CRT gave our kids their wand and sword. It was very sweet.

I sure thanked someone when he bought DD10 and I dinner at POFQ on May 28, 2010.

Here's the story:

DD10 and I decided we were too hungry to wait until we got to DTD to eat supper after we arrived. (We were going to DTD that evening)

So we went to POFQ food court and began checking out what we could get for dinner.

A gentleman walked up to me and asked if we were on a dining plan. I told him No (we don't ever get the dining plan) and he asked if he could buy us dinner since he and his wife were leaving in the morning and had 2 CS credits to use. I said sure we would love it. And thanked him.

He even told what he thought were the best meals to get in POFQ food court. (and yes, their fried chicken was spicy and delicious.).

It was a great start to our long weekend. And if you are a Disboards member - Thanks again!

:goodvibes We had another experience when we were going on Splash Mountain, two young ladies were coming off the ride as we were going on. They gave us their ponchos for the ride!

I love this thread. And although this was a time when someone thanked me...I still love it.
You know how the buses are when the park closes....well, I got a seat and because I had been there for 3 days already, my dogs were killing me. I just couldn't give up my seat. But I did, for this nice lady and her little one. The DD may have been about 4 or 5 and was very tired and whiney.
I started talking to her about her day and who she met at the park. I told her about dancing with Goofy and she starting telling me about meeting Mickey.
When we unloaded at the resort, I started walking away and the mom came up to me and practically hugged me and said thanks, that made the night so much easier!
I love that!!!

You know I just dont hear enough of these wonderful stories, most of the time they are stories about screaming children, rude tour groups, mean parents.. This is really nice and I cant even begin to say how much I appreciate this thread. I am sitting here at work eatting at my desk reading this with tears streaming down my face trying to think of ways I can make other ppls day both in WDW and here at home. I work in loss prevention so I see alot of CRAP and sometimes get really depressed seeing how ppl treat each other, Im so happy to read there are still plenty of good ppl in the world. I think I will sit down and make a list of small things DH and I can do while on our trip in Sept after all I have alot to be thankful for..

Hope everyone has a wonderful day! Keep these amazing stories coming!

Now.. here is one of mine..

DH and I were on our honeymoon Sept 2008 staying at SSR, we got on the bus going to MK to transfer to the monorail for our Ohana ADR, bus was running very late but a gentleman by himself struck up a conversation with us seeing our just married pins. Apparently he works for Disney Land and was there to do some work for WDW. He congratulated us and offered to get us into MK for free! We were already late for our Ohana ADR so had to say no thanks but I have never forgotten that!

This thread makes me smile...and get teary-eyed. I miss working in the parks soooooooo much. I'm trying to convince my fiance that we NEED to move to Orlando, so I can teach during the school year, and work seasonally and on occasional weekends. He remains unconvinced... :(

This really is what it's all about--making magic! Keep the stories coming! :goodvibes

Many years ago, almost 20 at this point which is scary. I was traveling and meeting some friends who had driven up to Tampa to meet me at Busch Gardens. I beat them to the park and was sitting on a bench by the entrance. A lady walked up to me and asked if I wanted tickets to get into the park for free. Of course I said yes. :thumbsup2 And Thank You. :lmao:

She worked at the park and the tickets expired that day so she passed them on to someone to use. :) My cousin used to work at SeaWorld and she used to do the same thing with tickets she had that were expiring.

I think this happened on our first trip to WDW with kids. My oldest and I were walking towards the Yeti Ride, aka EE, when a man was walkng away from Yeti with his son. My child and his were about the same age. I think his son chickened out about getting on the ride. ;) The man asked if we were going to EE and if we would like two FPs. And we said yes and thank you very much!:thumbsup2

This was a great thing for him to do. Ever since then if we have left over FPs we hand them out to people. I get the kids to "hunt" for the right people to give the FPs. :lmao: And I let them give the chosen people the FPs. :thumbsup2

Sometimes we cannot find the right group in the parks so we will hang around the bus stop at the resort until we find the right people. :)

One day I was walking down Main Street and a couple asked if I would take their photo with the castle in the background. I think they asked me because they could see I was carrying a camera bag. I took the time to pose them just so, waited for the crowd to ease up a bit and then I took the photo for them. I did a portrait shot of them to get them and the castle into the photo. And I kneeled down to get a different perspective. I could see in their faces they did not expect all of this. :lmao: They were very appreciative and I hope the photo came out for them.

Wow. This reminds me of another photo story. Even farther back in time. So far back cameras used FILM! :scared1:

The town I lived in just had a major mall built. This was a big deal since it took at least a 45 minute drive to get to a mall. And the new mall was VERY nice. It even had a Bloomies! :) I always park near the department store entrances when going to the mall and this day I parked near Bloomies. BTW I have not been to a mall in a good five years. :lmao: As I was walking past the escalators this women walked up to me and asked in very broken English if I would take a photo of her. I thought this was a big odd. This Bloomies was very nicely done. Marble floors and all. But to take a photo? :confused3 :) I said yes and she handed me her camera and left me! :confused3:lmao: She went to the UP escalator. She wanted a photo of her coming DOWN the escalator. :cool1:

It took the photo of course. But look how trusting she was. I think she was from Russia. What she was doing in our town from Russia I have no idea. But she had a very "old" camera and it had a Russian camera name on it. This was at the height of the Cold War and I think she was amazed at what she was seeing at Bloomies and the rest of the mall. I hope the photo came out. :)

Back to WDW. I always try to help people if they look lost and I hear a question I can answer.

A few trips backs we went to Tom Sawyers Island on the first raft to find a paint brush. One of my kids found a paintbrush! Woo Hoo! :lmao: But then the other child had a fit because they did not have a paint brush. We kept looking for another brush but I figured we were doing good to find one. Well we found another brush. :rotfl2: This was good and bad. I wanted another family to find the paint brush. I asked a CM about it and she said they would just return the paint brush to the island to find. On the way out on the raft I managed to get my oldest kid to give HER paint brush to another family. She was not real happy to give away her brush until she saw the looks on the faces of the people who got the paint brush. We had to explain what you got in exchange for the paint brush. :rotfl:

Later,
Dan
