Who was from where you lived?

I just thought that maybe this was kind of a cool story to share...

When we were in the World in September, on one of our last days there, we were in the MK. I had worn the happy birthday button I'd gotten on my lanyard as we were there celebrating my birthday. While standing in line, a man that was in a group of adults in front of me said happy birthday. He also noted my first trip button and asked if it was really my first time. I told him yes, and he asked where we were from....I replied Colorado. His eyes got big and he and his group started laughing and he said "no way get out us too!!! Where?" I said Thornton, and you know that he WAS from Colorado because he said Yeah, but WHERE in Thornton? (Thornton is a very LARGE area, and can take about an hour or two to drive from one end to the other, so just saying you're from Thornton isn't exactly terribly descriptive.) I told him 120th and Colorado Blvd....His jaw dropped.....He was from 104th and Colorado Blvd.!!!!!!!

I met a guy that lives just five minutes from me!!!

How cool is that?!

Anyone else have any cool experiences like this?

We were at Universal and we bumped into a student of my dh's...he teaches high school. This father of this student was also a FORMER student of DH.

Does that count??

We see a lot of people from Philly. But the closests we have found was our server at Mythos. She was from Audubon PA. That's about 20 miles from my house.

When I was in high school I was standing in line for small world, when my dad noticed someone in line with a school jacket from my school. I walked up the line a little and spotted my boyfriend!!!

His family had surprised him with a trip to Disney for Christmas. This was LONG before the cell phone and he knew I was there but he had no way of letting me know HE was there.. It was really funny.

We took a trip while I was on a year long maternity leave from teaching and ran into an administrator in an elevator at Port Orleans Riverside. Her 1st words to me were "OMG You did NOT see me here." LOL What happens in Disney, Stays in Disney.

When we went to Disney 10 years ago, we were walking through MK and DH says, "Hey, there goes _______". Happened to be a neighbor who lives half a block away from us!

we go during Mardi Gras, so we are always running into someone we know, or someone who knows someone. Last year, my son ran into a "friend that is a girl", so he then spent the rest of the vacation trying to be at the same park they were - wonder why??? :rolleyes1

Totally by chance ran into my friend and her family. I knew she was going but without a plan we ran into each other at Animal Kingdom and hung out for the day. Dont know if it counts but yes I have.

I think it was our trip in March '07 I met a girl in line for the Tower of Terror who was there working with the College Program. I lived in Arlington at the time and she lived in DeSoto. They are about 20-30 minutes apart. That's as close as I've gotten.

In November at ASSp, we were watching our kids in the pool talking to a dad watching his kids in the pool. My grandpa asked where he was from and he was from he town I grew up in, and where my grandparents still live. He lives about 2 miles max from my grandparents. That was as closee as we have gotten.

We also found out that a friend of my DD14 saw us while we were in Disney in November, but we didn't see her family and they were too far away to yell to us. But we knew they were going to be there so it wouldn't have been a big surprise to see them.

back in the mid-late 80s, we ran into my sister's best friend and her family at the Land at Epcot- so random. we didn't know they were even on vacation too- much less at WDW!

Disney:
Over the years we've run in to neighbors, classmates and coworkers. All of which were unplanned.

Near Disney:
OK, so the location here takes a lot of elements out of the equation: MCO. DD noticed a family sitting the next row over from us reading the town newspaper. Just kind of funny - hey mom, we should have carpooled! With all that luggage? HA! Not.

not disney (but I need to share):
At Myrtle Beach as a kid we ran into my brother's teacher (6th grade) staying in the same campground as us. He was asked if he had done his homework, DB did NOT think it was funny :rotfl: but I did - we kept running into him over ... and over ... and over...

Went on a camping trip to CO one summer, during one particularly dismal day we headed off to see the opening of a movie called Star Wars, not sure if you remember that one. The power went out just after the creature had dragged the "Luke" guy under the gross liquid, the room went black, and stayed that way. I was crying, refusing to put my feet back on the ground until someone could light up the way with a flashlight (this was pre-cell phones, remember) Got back to school to overhear a boy in my Class laughing and telling kids about the crazy girl sitting by him in the Star Wars Movie who refused to put her feet down when the power went out because she thought there might be a creature down there. :rolleyes1 Yea, I was hoping it was a coincidence, but it turned out to be the same theater. Same Day, 1/2 the country away from home.

I once saw a friend from school and her boyfriend in Downtown Disney. It was pretty funny since she was the last person I expected to see there. I also ran into a family from my church whom I am good friends with. That's part of them in my signature pic.

Kevin, yes that Kevin, Used to live right down the street from us until he got smart and moved to Florida! :goodvibes

We live in a village that is 1 square mile, so we've never met anyone from exactly where we live, but we have met a few people from Wisconsin. :)

We were there in April (our HS band was marching at the MK). While we were waiting for them a cast member came over and asked if we would take a survey. On her name tag it said that she was from the next town over from us. She was very excited when I told her the BHS band was marching as they have a great reputation in the area.

A few times:

- My daughter saw her teacher at AK in the fifth grade

- We were at one of the water parks one year and were about to leave to go to another park when we ran into my good friend, her DH, and 2 DDs. They were in Tampa for the week and had decided to pop on over to the parks. We ended up settling back down and my DD had her friends to play with for the afternoon

- We were at Epcot watching the act outside of Italy a couple of years ago. Some fool in the crowd started heckling. I looked over and it was one of my DHs former co-workers. He was obnoxious when they worked together, and apparently retirement hasn't changed him. We made sure to cover our faces and walk in the opposite direction so he wouldn't see us.

- When we stepped off the plane last year at MCO my brother and his wife were waiting at the next gate to catch their flight home.

- I used to be active in the Relay for Life in my town. I've been on the committee a couple of times and have captained teams. I was eating breakfast at POR and could see somebody with a Relay t-shirt with the corporate sponsors from our Relay, but he was too far away and his back was to me so I couldn't see if I knew him and couldn't get to him in time to speak with him.

- Oh, I almost forgot the time at MK that my husband ran into the people at from our pool supply store (I never go in there so I didn't know them, but he goes in there frequently).

About 2 months after we moved, I ran into someone from my old mom's club. And another time I ran into some I went to grad school with at the poly concierge lounge.

Last year my DD had a classmate that was going to be in the World at the same time and they were able to meet up for a bit.

Over 10 years ago while at WDW during Spring break (only time we went during spring break) we ran into 2 different families that had kids in my daughters class. It was crazy crowded but we ran into one of the families 3 different times, one of those times was waiting in a line at Universal.

On another vacation to Yellowstone National Park we ran into one of my daughters lunch ladies.

We've also ran into people quite often at airports and a couple of times in Vegas.

We almost always run into someone we know in the World.

Also, when were were there last May, we were sitting on a bench in EPCOT enjoying a funnel cake and another family sits near us. The mom tells her to kids Emma and Ethan to stay close. My eyes bug out of my head because our 2 kids are Emma and Ethan too. I start laughing and introduce her to Emma and Ethan. We start laughing and talking. Turns out she lives in PA about 40 minutes from us. She also had an infant son at home names Ean (sticking with the E theme). Then I stood up and pointed to my pregnant belly and said this is Evan (DH likes E names too).

That was neat!
