Maybe this is something new. Our DD got married two weeks ago. Since then, she's gotten a couple of written thank you's from guests, and yesterday DH and I got one. Basically they say what a great time they had and thank us for inviting them.

I never heard of this. :confused3 It's very nice, but part of me is wondering if they were expecting a Happy Meal and Twinkie while listening to Uncle Fred playing the accordion. :teeth: :rotfl: :rotfl:

My mom always taught me to write a short note if I had a nice time at an affair. She said it makes someone feel their hard work was appreciated! :goodvibes

I think it's very nice that someone actually took the time to send you a ThankYou note just for being invited. Too bad more people weren't like your friends!!

I agree that it was very nice, I just was curious if this is some new wedding rule. Lord knows I learned more about wedding protocol than I ever wanted to over the course of the last year. :teeth:

That is sweet... never heard of it, but sweet!

I've sent thank you notes for birthday parties my DS5 has been to. I know I don't need to, but the families put so much effort into these things, and he always comes back with such great goodie bags, I feel I ought to say thanks.

I think it's nice that the guests have said thanks, sharing their thoughts on your DD's special day. Although the cynic in me says...are they fishing for a thank you for their gifts!!!!!

As for you, the parents, getting thank you's...traditionally it's the Brides parents that arrange, pay and invite the guests. It's only in recent times that the bride and groom actually got any say in it all!! So perhaps that's why you got the note. I prefer this thread than a "we never got a thank you note for our gifts" thread!!

Wait... I was suppose to send a written note................I used email. ;) :)

It is something I probably would have done.............. :earsgirl:

I was married a year ago and my dad received about 5 thank you notes from various people, saying what a great time they had. I had never heard of it before that though.

I don't know that a written thank you is common, but how very nice. I'm ok with a verbal thank you at the time, even though I don't go looking for even that. After our DD's Bat Mitzvah and our DS's Bar, we had comments from family about what a good time they had. Our family must be easily pleased because they were both simple events, compared to how some events are. But everyone still had fun, got to know people they didn't know and visit with people they did know.
