Did we make a mistake- points ?

Hi everyone. My DH and I just joined DVC, purchasing @ BLT this past week while on vacation. We purchased 200 points, with plans to add points when able. I banked this year's 200 points, knowing we would not use them before the end of the year. We get more points in Feb, as we understand it. We are thinking we would like to travel in Sept 2010, so we can book as early as next month ( for BLT ), is this correct? But now that I banked the points, and do not recieve more until Feb, can we still book next month, or did we make a mistake by banking? So much for us to learn, but we are SOOOO excited!

You did the right thing. I also banked this year's points (2009) & then booked a trip for next summer, using 2009 & 2010 points.

Yes, you can book next month for travel in September 2010. As long as you have points available for when you are traveling (and you will) you can go ahead and book that vacation. Enjoy!

yes, you can book 11 months ahead at your home resort.

travel in sept 2010 for a feb use year means you can use 1) the 2009 points that you banked, 2) the 2010 points that will be valid for stays from feb 1, 2010-jan 31, 2011 and/or 3) the 2011 points that can be borrowed into your 2010 use year (if you look at your account online, you will see that these 2011 points are already in your account.)

(and you probably already know this, but banking and borrowing are final transactions - so they cannot be undone.)

Points don't "deposit" when your use year starts, they are already in your account for all future dates. When you book a reservation, they look at the use year that would apply to the date of stay, not the date you are making the reservation.

I have a related question...also new to BLT and DVC. We banked 2009 points. Are those points available for transfer in our next use year.

you must use your 2009 points in 2010.

You can not transfer banked or borrowed points, only current UY points. So, those 2009 points that you banked into 2010, will have to be used during your 2010 UY.
