Did we get a good deal?

Today has been an exciting day. We just put a deposit down on our first travel trailer. Prior to this we've been tent camping.

Now I'm just worried (buyers remorse?) about whether or not we got a good deal. It's a 2003 270BH Coachmen LT. It has single over double bunks, queen bed, couch, dinette, and a garage storage unit in the back. We got it for $9,500.

Does anyone have this trailer? Does anyone have any opinions? Does that seem like a good price? I'd appreciate any input.

I remember looking at some of these a couple of years ago when we were shopping and they were brand new. I can't remember if what I looked at was 27' or slightly larger at maybe 31' but they were running around $20k new. So if everything is working properly, and I imagine is is slightly used since it is not that old, I think you got a good deal!

It sounds like you are talking about a toy hauler. That seems like a fairly fair price, did you make sure to check the roof, ect?
We recently purchased a 2003 29 ft rear living Four Winds for $13,500, and felt it was a VERY fair price so that should give you some idea.

It's not a toy hauler. A big door flips up on the back and you're looking at a space about 2 1/2 feet deep that runs across and up the whole back of the camper. There are areas with peg boards for tools and hoses, and other areas that would fit all kinds of stuff (lawn chairs, folding grill, etc.). It's a lot of storage, but you couldn't put an ATV in there.

I'm glad to hear we got a good deal. I guess this means we'll be headed to For Wilderness sometime this year! :cool1:

The RV dealer is storing it for free until April. DH wants to make some trips to very local campgrounds this summer so that we can get used to setting up and towing. He wants to be close enough that he can either commute back and forth to work, or work out of the camper some days. Now I just have to pick a local campground. Fortunately we live in the capital/Saratoga region of New York, so there are a lot of nice summer RV parks.

I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I grew up without a lot of money and even though we can afford it I still get nervous about handing over that amount of money.

Well if you have your heart set on going to FW this year, you better go ahead and pick your dates and get a ressie. Lots of people have reported difficulty in getting ressies at all sorts of different times. FW is a very popular destination. Local camping is a great idea! Just make sure that everything you/your husband take off the camper, goes into a storage compartment immediately. Our first trip to FW we unhooked the sway bar to park in a space, the space was too small so we moved to another but left the sway bar on the picnic table. We didn't realize it until the day we were leaving. Luckily, someone turned it into lost and found so we got it back. We've lost the other little bars / handles that you use to screw, unscrew, raise, lower things. My rule is put everything in the back of the truck or the front storage compartment when your hands come off of it but DH still can't catch on!
Oh, happy camping! ::yes::

NADAGUIDES you can check used rv values at this link.

As mentioned if you want to go to the fort make those reservations now, we are going to the World in February, but unfortunately could not get a campsite. :confused3

Have a blast in your new toy!!

I was able to book a preffered site last night for Dec. 18-29. Now the planning can start! :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

I looked up the value of the TT on NADA and it looks like we got a pretty good deal. The low retail value is listed at 9,050 and the average retail at 10,850. They said the low price would represent a trailer with a lot of wear and tear. This unit is in really good shape and very clean. The values are probably a little low because I didn't know how to enter the extras. I really just wanted to make sure that we weren't paying way too much. Thanks for all the help. I'm sure I'll be here throughout the year bugging everyone with questions.

We just made our ressies for FW for Dec 22 through Jan 2, stop by the campfire and tell Sundee who you are, she always knows where all the "DIS" people are at.
Please ask any questions you want, thats why we all hang out here !
