I went to Walgreens today to pick up some insulin for my Dad's cat. As I was walking through the store, I wandered through the candy aisle :rolleyes1 , and what did I find but HALLOWEEN CANDY!!! WTH???
Box after box of Reese's and Hershey's 'fun size' candy in orange boxes with bats and spiderwebs on them! Seriously, are they going to start bringing out Christmas decorations in August? :confused3

Oh, please tell me you're kidding... no wonder people are burnt out on holidays before they even arrive.

UG! I hate it when they do this. It makes it feel like the summer is almost over when they start with the halloween stuff. Plus - REALLY who on earth is going to buy chocolate in July EXPECTING it to still be around 3 months later.....

A store around here (seasonal type store) had CHRISTMAS stuff out on July 12th!

Halloween is nothing.

I noticed that this weekend too. Way too early for Halloween. I just dont get why they do that, nothing like psyching the kids up for something that wont happen for months!

Time to break out the fake flying bats :confused3

It's retail, that's why. Last year in the craft store where I worked, we had the Lemax Christmas and Halloween villages set up by July 9 (I only remember the date because it was the day my grandmother passed away), and most all of the fall stuff came out very shortly thereafter. Yes, people complained about it at the time, but a lot of them were the same ones who were enraged that we were out of fake jackolanterns when they came screaming in looking for 'em on Oct. 30.

That said, Walgreens always does seem to be ahead of the curve on these things. I actually like it because it's a sign to me that summer's going to be over soon, which makes me very very happy because I hate heat. :sunny:

We can't even buy Halloween candy the week before Halloween and expect it to still be here.

They started all the 'back to school' sales in late June, only a couple of weeks after school got out, so I guess that makes it time for Halloween now... :confused3

lots of places are getting halloween stuff if they're not a back to school place as that's the next big thing (labor day has no decorations, etc).

Well if any of you buy any of the early Halloween candy.....send some my way, please!!! Pretty please with sugar lumps on top! :teeth:

stores wouldn't do it if people didn't want it.

I think that's the point! You will eat it all & then have to go back out and buy more. :p (However, I love indian corn & it only comes out at Halloween time, DH loves the candy pumpkins -- so maybe this would be a good thing for us.)

I know some places will have Christmas stuff out soon. I have already seen Christmas fabric (but that to me makes sense because I would assume it might take you a while to actually sew something -- OK...it would take ME from now until Christmas to get something sewn!).

I haven't seen them yet but I know it's coming, the winter coats will be out soon in the stores. Lots of the summer clothes are on clearance already.

I don't shop for Halloween stuff now because my kids will have changed their minds about 30 times for what they want to be between now & Halloween. Besides, I have a mid-October baby & we have to get through his birthday first.

My years seem to be going by quicker and quicker on their own I really hate when retail steps it up a bit.

what's indian corn?

Becky, the winter coats have been in the stores here for a few weeks now, but somehow I can't shop for a parka when it's 95 degrees and a dewpoint of 70!

It's candy corn but instead of the regular yellow bottom it has brown. I like it better than the regular candy corn and although you can find candy corn year-round. This *only* comes out at Halloween time.

I admit that I feel the same way that you do. I just do not like the summer. I absolutely love the Fall though and can't wait for it to get here!
