Did they think the water was enough?

Well for me that water would be enough. I mean we spend a half a day there maybe max? Give me a floatie and a cocktail and I’m good. But I get many want a water park like Royal. We prefer more natural beaches.
Agreed. If you want a water park, go with a cruiseline that HAS a water park. (For "Perfect Day at Coco Cay" you've got Royal OR Celebrity as options.)

This was NEVER advertised as something that was going to have a pool or water park - and it was NEVER advertised as Castaway Cay 2.0.

Sadly there doesn’t appear to be floaties on Lookout .

I agree in that I don’t want a full on water park - I’m happy with a beach and some Caribbean vibes. But there seems to be lacking the character I assumed it would have - that’s what Castaway does so well.

It was never meant to be - nor was it advertised to be - Castaway 2.0. Lookout is more about the nature and the culture than Disney themeing.

I think DCL did make it clear that there is a cultural experience as well. I have mobility issues now, so, for me, a pool addition would have been preferable, but once I go on the island once or twice, I will swim on the ship. I do want to learn about the culture of the island.

Sadly, staying on the ship to swim is what I do when we are docked at CC. I loved the snorkeling beach at CC many times. However I cannot access nor get out of the ocean now.

The water might be enough for many people, it would be for me - but I think the expectation was that you would be sitting on the beach next to the ocean, not behind the dunes or fighting for the limited chairs on the beach. And the flies are just 100% gross, unsanitary and completely unacceptable.

It might be enough for me too with a drink and a float but that float part? Not happening. DCL isn't renting them (plastic- environmentalism) and they are on the prohibited list of items to bring with you on the ship so you can't even bring your own.

The water's enough for me, but we don't have warm water up here. I need to see more pictures of the chairs though, what my brain envisions when someone says dunes versus reality is probably different.

Even at CC, we weren't off the ship early enough to get chairs closer to the water and were up a ways.

It's 90% of what Castaway Cay offers, and people love that island.

They will be adding the nature trail and bike rentals, which Castaway also has. The only big thing that's missing is the Stringray area, but they offer snorkeling excursions that take you out to reefs, which is a big upgrade over Castaway IMO.

My favorite thing about CC is the beach and the ease of everything. It’s just 100% relaxing and fun. We have never done any of the big, paid activities at CC … we’ve rented bikes, gone snorkeling and my kids got a couple of braids when they were little and we always rent at least one raft for the family and just enjoy floating …but no boat rides, sting rays, etc. I just really enjoy a lovely, carefree day at the beach. And it feels so nice to have space to spread out and not have to fight for a chair (like you do in the ship with all the chair savers).

I was not hoping for a water park or a pool at LC, but I also wasn’t expecting to be starting the day with a 1/2 mile race walk to get to a tram so I can beat out 3,500 other passengers to get a spot on the actual beach and not just a “sun deck” type of spot behind a dune.

Edited to add: But I am glad that I know all of this ahead of time. Just wasn’t quite expecting to have to develop a rope drop strategy for LC! I’ll be visiting on a Dream class ship and our ashore time is 10:15am … so there will be a bunch of people and the late ashore time practically guarantees that hoards of people will be ready to get off the ship (as opposed to a 8:30am ashore time when you can be an early bird).

Everyone has their preferences for what they like to do on a day at the beach. I loved spending time swimming and exploring and can’t wait to do it again. The beach and nature trail is simply gorgeous

I'm interested in the nature trail. But let's be real, my kids won't leave the water play area. I'm pretty sure if they had a choice between beach and splash pad, they will choose the splash pad.

Right now LHP at LC isn't on an itinerary we would necessarily book. (We thought about the 5 night Fantasy in the spring but wanted more nights so went with the Treasure next August)

What do you think should be added?
I know you didn't ask me but... please give the Vibe\Edge kids a hangout space like on CC with the Hideout and can we get an equivalent to in Da Shade as well? My teen would still miss Pelican Plunge (me too, and my 22yo DD as well) but those things would help a bit.

However I really want float rentals. I am having a hard time understand why those can't happen because of enviromental impact but it is ok for DCL to sell plastic merchandise... Make it make sense

My assumption is that it's more to do with not wanting them to float out into the ocean and not be easily retrievable like they are at Castaway.

I haven't really seen pictures yet but my concern would be someone losing their float/tube into the open ocean.

But I don't go to beaches a lot and the ones up here are more of the fight for parking type and enjoy your 68 degree water, are float rentals normal at beaches elsewhere?

Rentals? No. Gift shops selling them to you? Absolutely. And the ability to bring your own from home? Yes

Do they not have it sectioned off like in castaway? Craig mentioned that there was a limit to how far out you could go in the water and it was actually even shorter than castaway so I didn’t assume this would be an issue.
